  1. Thanks, I have been considering the DAP-1522 access point. May I ask which router/modem works so well with it? Also, does the access point stream both ways (pardon my ignorance)? To BigBobOz - unfortunately that would not work for me but thank you.
  2. prl wrote: 'Try searching the Beyonwiz forum for "wireless bridge" (use "Search for all terms" and "Display results as: Posts" search options). There's lots of discussion and some suggested models.' Plenty to look at there - much appreciated.
  3. Thanks all for the advice. I have now bought a Beyonwiz DP-P2 and plan to add wireless to it as suggested. I gather that this means buying a new router as a 'Bridge' and running an ethernet Lan from that to the Beyonwiz (the PC and DP-P2 are on different floors). My current router is an ADSL2+ Aopen iConnectAccess264W which I have had for some years and I am now a bit concerned that connectivity might be a problem between modems - example here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Distribution_System. Does anyone have advice on brands and connectivity in general for the bridge modem? I am hoping to get an 'N' level modem for future proofing but the budget is now down to around $150 or so. Thanks.
  4. I went to the JB online website looking for a Beyonwiz DP-S1 (http://www.digitalhome.com.au/Tvs_And_Home_Theatre/Set_Top_Box/Beyonwiz/DP-S1_PVR_HDD_PVR_WITH_DVD/21940) and read this message - 'This item is obsolete and no longer available. However we do have the model(s) that supersede this product.' This apparently refers to the DP-P2. I was looking for the wireless capability, does anyone know whether a new model is coming out or is wireless is being dropped by Beyonwiz? Thanks.
  5. I have been using this version for a while and only get the screen dropouts very occassionaly. Thanks for the quick reply Peebs. Polyp
  6. Hi, Could you or anyone please tell me how to turn off Timeshift? I was unaware that this could be done. Thanks.
  7. Thanks for checking, Stevie, great news.
  8. Like you my only problem is with the timeshift. When I try and delete my timeshift sometimes a little disappears but most remains so I do a format whenever it is nearly full. This is quite quick and works well for me. If TEAC would just correct the timeshift problem or allow me to disable it or turn it off completely I would be 100% happy with my unit. Please,TEAC, do something about the timeshift! Are you there borga1? Did everything finish up working for you?
  9. The Seagate is a small neat external drive, probably like the one you have. Here is one site with a picture and specifications - found on shopbot.com http://www.ht.com.au/N/-29+-82/part/U0581/detail.hts Make sure it has the Y cable, it should come as standard inside the pack. You could check their replacement/refund policy if worried. They have stores in most States but not in mine. (I trust that the problem is not with your Teac.) Cheers.
  10. My Seagate 80GB has worked well from the start. The drive was already formatted as one volume Fat32. It has a Y cable , one end data/power and one end power. On my PC I only need one USB, the power/data one but for my laptop both USBs need to be plugged in. Likewise on the Teac, the power/data cable goes in the back and the power cable goes in the front - otherwise it wiil not work. Data transfer seems fast to me and I am very happy with it. I bought it because of the Teac. You could check prices on shopbot www.shopbot.com.au or shop ferret www.shopferret.com.au Good luck
  11. Hi Borga1, You might neesd an accessory power supply. If you got a Y cable with the hdd plug the power only end into the front USB. My 80G seagate came with the Y shaped cable. The power part is required for my TEAC and laptop but not for my PC which seems to get enough power from the Power/Data end of the Y. Hope this helps.
  12. Apchoo,The following works for me but maybe some sets differ. The timeshift buffer is still there for me after deleting all recordings and attempting to delete the timeshift buffer too. I then format the disk which does not take long. This somehow changes 'Enabled' recording to 'Disabled'. Next if I do a soft reboot (Hold the off button on the front down for 5 seconds or so, then wait about 10 to 20 seconds and press the button again). I find that recording is then re-enabled with a clean blank disk to work with. I have done this succesfully many times. (Jan and March updates have been applied) Now that this part works for me I am very happy with my machine.
  13. Well said Jestacat, that seems by far the best way to approach TEAC and is better than trying to hit them on the head I would think. On the offchance that they do not watch this forum, I hope you sent an email copy to them.
  14. I bought a 2GB Corsair flash drive which works well on my PC, Laptop and TEAC (rear port only). Needing something larger I later bought an 80GB Seagate external HDD which is quite small in size. This came with a Y cable, USB 2.0 on one end and a Data/Power cable and a Power cable as the 'split ends' of the Y. For use with my PC the Power/Data cable only is needed but with both the Laptop and the TEAC the extra power cable is required - using a spare USB port on the laptop and in the case of the TEAC it works with the front port everytime. This indicates to me that the rear port on the TEAC (as happens with some other devices e.g. my Laptop) does not put out enough power to run a largish external drive from the one USB port. I understand that some USB external HDDs come with a 240v power connection which also indicates that some USB ports do not supply enough power. I hope this clarifies things a little.
  15. The lack of the promised update is really annoying - if they just gave us a way to disable timeshift I would be happy. I think the TEAC is still the best available, if you look at other threads all PVRs seem to have problems.
  16. That sounds OK too. The suggested method meant (I think) that you could turn it off when the buffer was near full and then immediately turn it back on again giving a clear buffer and timeshift on again. If you wanted just recordings and no timeshift then that would be possible too. Either way would be a great improvement. How big should a cap be - two hours of Hidef (e.g.1080i) or more?
  17. Topic: Strong 5490 Hd Pvr (FlashGordon -- Yesterday, 04:22 PM) ........................................... QUOTE(spovend @ Mar 21 2007, 01:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>What do you mean by "Timeshifting" with respect to the 5490? With the SD 5290 it is ALWAYS timeshifting such that when normal viewing you can rewind at anytime Thanks. ----------------------------- TimeShift is a function that allows keeping the TV program file temporarily in the hard disk of the computer; therefore, users can continue to watch the same TV program. Users can replay a scene, watch and pause the same program or skip the annoying TV commercials by TimeShift. When you turn off this software program, the buffer clears and the "recording" is gone. This is not an automatic function - but can be implemented at any time by pressing a button on the Remote control. However it will not work if recording with the two tuners...... ________________________________________________________________________________ ______ The above is from another thread on the DTV Forum. Perhaps our TEAC people could add something like this buffer clearing in the coming (?) upgrade.
  18. Sorry John, I have to take issue with the above. I don't think we should take publicists' statements at face value. People around the world have been complaining of a 'Cloudiness' problem with many Sony XBRs. For two to three months Sony denied the problem but after the first weeks suppliers were quietly replacing sets. Check out the DTV forum - http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=44132&st=80 Post 92 summarises it the problem at the time. and http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread....e=242&pp=30 Which has 242 pages I rang Sony Aust about 6 weeks into the arguments after reading that others had rung already, and was told they knew nothing about it. After my request for the supervisor the technician went and came back to say he was unavailable to speak on the phone but was unaware of any problem. Sony has denied other problems world wide for some time e.g with laptop batteries. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-6126493.html I do not have a problem at all with Sony products (I love my XBR) it is just the deniability. The TEAC box seems to be the best of the type available at present. It is probably at the leading edge and teething problems can be expected. To me the good news is that TEAC appears to be listening to us and it sounds as though they will try to redress problems we bring up. However, they might have problems keeping everyone happy. I for one am pleased to have it rather than still be waiting for a Topfield or Beyonwiz (if it ever comes). If TEAC can fix the timeshift thing one way or another it will be even better. End of rant - I apologise for the length.
  19. On Jan 22nd. I sent an email to Teac Australia asking whether they could add the ability to transfer large files to the TEAC. This reply came the next day from reception@teac.com.au Hello (name), Files can be streamed from a PC or from a USB device, currently there are no plans to be able to store information on the internal drive this leaves the drive free for local recordings and the time shift buffer. Thank you TEAC Australia I would prefer to see the timeshift buffer removed completely if it can't be fixed because most complaints seem to be related to that. I know a lot of people like the timeshift thing so it could be added back later if it becomes reliable. It would be great to have a normal working hard drive and we do not know how many revisions there will be before attention turns to other models. The next might be the last. Timeshift removal and most of the other items listed in the forum should be easily solved (I think). This is still the best unit of its type in the market and any improvement would have to improve sales. Teac Australia seems to be aware of our concerns but what about the owners in Tokyo (and elsewhere) and the developers. Do they know of our concerns? Do they care? Let us hope so. An email address for the developers might help.
  20. I bought an 80G seagate mini USB drive about 2 weeks ago to view hidef files downloaded to my PC and shown through the TEAC and also for export to my PC. The drive came already formatted in Fat32. I tried once to use the front USB port but it did not work. The drive came with a Y cable supplied and has worked every time since then by plugging the data USB cable into the rear USB port and the power USB into the front USB port. I do not need the power cable part on my PC but the TEAC seems to need the extra power for the 80G drive. I believe that smaller drives may work without the extra cable.
  21. Until the timeshift problems are corrected I would prefer to see it removed completely and have the ability to transfer hidef material to the HDD instead. It is annoying to delete all programs apart from one or two one might want to save and leave on the drive for a while and then find that timeshift has taken up all the remaining disk space. Then the only way to record more material is to format the disk which means the loss all saved programs.
  22. Great advice Chris. The GME Kingray people recommended the SA162 ($40) in my case. It needs a power point and a short antenna cable. Using it as an amplifier only (not a splitter) the pixelation has disappeared completely from Ch 2 HD. I just plugged it in at the start of the daisy chain with the following results. Noting as Strength/Quality/SNRdB the improvement was - ABCHD from 40/52/17.8 to 52/80/23.3 SBSHD from 48/76/21.4 to 60/80/23.8 7HD from 52/85/25.0 to 66/90/27.1 9HD from 49/82/23.2 to 64/85/26.0 10HD from 42/58/18.9 to 54/80/23.4 All channels look good now, thanks for the help - I hope this helps others with signal strength problems.
  23. Thanks, I have found the address of the GME office in SA and will go in to speak to them soon.
