  1. Item: Bryston B100 Integrated Amplifier Location: Adelaide, South Australia, postcode 5062 Price: $ 2400 Item Condition: Pristine, like new, not a mark on it Reason for selling: Purchased a Bryston power amp, so no need for this one Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I purchased this brand new in August 2011 from Challenge Hi Fi in Adelaide. It comes with a copy of the original receipt, which provides a transferable 20 year warranty with Bryston (could you ask for any better peace of mind?). It also comes with the original box and original foam padding in the box, and the original power cable. The amp has functioned beautifully without any troubles. It has the useful function of home-theatre bypass, which helps incorporate it into a home theatre with an AV Receiver. I challenge any AV receiver to produce a better sound (believe me, I auditioned plenty of AVR's and integrated amplifiers before purchasing this). I'm completely sold with the Bryston sound: well-balanced, open, smooth, tightly controlled bass. Whilst it doesn't come with a remote control, it can be programmed to operate with a Logitech Harmony Remote. Here is a link to it on the Bryston website: http://www.bryston.c..._amps/B100.html Happy to assist with interstate shipping. Feel free to ask for any further info. 2. Yes buzz is only audible when I have sound muted. Yes I'm watching digital tv via foxtel iq box. Will try another source on HT bypass soon. Thanks everyone for your help!
  3. Pioneer pdp427xda connected to denon via hdmi. Have tried different hdmi cables & different power plug connections which makes no difference.
  4. Thanks for your advice . I've done some more troubleshooting. The buzzing is only present when the tv is on. So if I have the bryston & avr turned on, the buzzing is not present. When I turn the tv on, the buzzing appears. I've tried changing power points & leads & cables but this doesn't seem to make any difference. Also, the buzzing is worse if the Bryston is being powered on. When I then switch away from tv input then back to tv input, it improves, but never goes away completely. Thanks again for your help.
  5. Hi , Yes the Bryston B100 integrated amp has HT bypass. Here is an excerpt from the manual: PASS THROUGH MODE: PASS THROUGH mode sets the pre-amp gain to 1 (unity gain) and locks out the volume & balance controls for any single analog audio source. For example, if the Front Left and Front Right outputs of a home theater surround sound processer were connected to the TV input of the B100, and then PASS THROUGH was engaged then whevever TV input is selected the volume and balance controls would be locked at unity gain. If other inputs were subsequently selected, volume and balance controls return to normal operation for those other input sources. Only the TV inputs would be locked at unity gain. PASS THROUGH mode, therefore, can only be assigned to one input at a time, but that input can be any one of the analog audio inputs. The power amplifier stage is not affected by PASS THROUGH mode. PASS THROUGH mode can only be set (or reset) by sending the 3 digit code “245” to the B100 either from the handheld IR remote control or via the RS232 serial data input. See “Sending Codes to the B100 via the IR Handheld Remote Control” & “Wired RS232 Remote Control”. To reassign PASS THROUGH mode to a different input source simply select the desired input and re-send the “245” code to the B100. To turn the deactivate PASS THORUGH mode, select the current Pass Through input and then send the “245” code to the B100. The “245” toggles PASS THROUGH mode on and off. My problem persists regardless of whether I have the AVR amp set to Normal or Preamp. I get sound output with both settings via the Bryston. The buzzing is feint, but it's definitely there. But to put it in persepective, my pioneer 42 inch plasma buzz is louder. So perhaps I'm being a bit anal. I just find it a bit weird, in that the buzzing disappears when I use a different input on the Bryston (ie. no HT bypass employed) & also I expected better from a brand like Bryston. Whilst the store I purchased the Bryston from are very nice, patient people, they really had very little idea about the HT bypass function on the Bryston. I had to research it all myself. It even involved me contacting the Australian rep for Bryston, who again, knew so little about it it wasn't funny.
  6. Hi Guys, I have a denon avr4311 connected to TV input of Bryston integrated amp B100 for 2 channel av use via the AVR's preamp outs for L&R speakers. The Bryston is programmed to do HT bypass when set to TV. When I watch TV I hear a buzzing sound from the speakers. When I use the AVR &/or Bryston for any other function I don't hear this buzzing. Even when I connect in to other inputs of Bryston for watching TV (eg. tuner or video input, pass through off) I don't hear the buzzing. I've made sure it hasn't anything to do with cables, leads, electrical interference etc. I've read the Bryston manual & realise the pass through mode can only be done for analog inputs. So I'm wondering if the problem has something to do with the AVR sending a digital signal to the Bryston???? But I'm not really sure. Thanks for your help!
  7. I can't find a store in Adelaide who actually has the vt30 65 inch in stock. I called JB, HN, Good Guys & Myer. 1 store contacted Pana Aus who stated that there is a new shipment coming into Australia tomorrow but there is no knowledge as to which stores actually obtain any of this new stock. So I might wait a few days & see which stores in Adelaide receive stock. I don't see the point of putting an order in now because the particular store I put the order in may not receive any stock. Also no stores are willing to price match a product which they don't actually have in stock. Waiting waiting.
  8. Wow, fantastic price. Thanks for the link. Much appreciated. Yes if I could get the above for $4309 incl 3 yr warranty & delivery then I'll be v happy. Thanks again.
  9. I live in Adelaide. Spoke with a HN salesperson today who told me 65inch VT will arrive in store at end of this week. I think he said RRP is $5200. What's a reasonable price I should be getting this panel for?
  10. Hi Adelaidetpc Yes I completely agree with you. The root of all my indecisiveness is the fact that I know things will sound very different in my own home! I realise I am not comparing apples with apples, which is why this journey has been so difficult for me. For the record I listened to the sonus fabers in their massive front room which faces Prospect Rd with their door open, so I wouldn't say that was perfect listening conditions anyway. To everyone/anyone, what is the culture regarding auditioning speakers in your home? Will stores let me do this, & if so, how does it work? Would they also let me audition amplifiers, as this obviously has a large influence. Thankyou!
  11. Prefer the look of floorstanders to that of standmounts. Would also prefer to stay away from subs, simply because I want to keep things simple & prefer less clutter. This is in an open plan living area, not a dedicated HT room. Yes I listened to the Sonus Fabers again today with a bryston integrated amp & they really did sound nice. I like their warmness when they're playing at low-listening levels, yet they can still get angry when I turn them up to 11. I just don't think the contours sound that nice when played at background levels. They need to be turned up loud to sing.
  12. Dynaudio focus & contour B&W Sonus Faber Cabasse Zu Essence & Omen Def Neat Vienna Acoustics Spendor Krix VAF KEF Paradigm No haven't tried ProAc. Obviously highly-rated by many but no dealers in Adelaide. I do prefer the warm sound so not sure if they'd be my flavour anyway.
  13. So just a quick update...... After a lot of listening to a lot of setups in different environments I've narrowed it down to 2: 1. Dynaudio contour s3.4 with plinius/bryston components 2. Sonus Faber Liuto with bryston components Having difficulty deciding between the 2 however. The Dynes sound awesome when played loud but I find they sound a little bland when played at lower volume levels (ie. conversation volumes). I do like listening to music with other people around whilst still having a conversation, or reading etc......so this is a bugbear for me, although I may be being a bit anal about this. When played loud they sound awesome though....... I like the SF's for the fact that they have a nice smooth warmth to them yet still enough dynamic range to keep them fun to listen to. They still sound really nice at lower volume levels too. They're smaller speakers & do have smaller soundstage, & my room is quite large (approx 12mx8m) so I wonder how well they'd fill the room...... What do you guys think? I wax & wane as to which ones I prefer. Price not an issue. Have tried heaps of other brands. The only brand I didn't get to try was PMC but unfortunately the only dealer in Adelaide who deals with PMC is going into other brands. I've heard other British speakers like Spendor & B&W & don't like their flavour anyway. Thanks!
  14. Sorry I've been a bit slow on the uptake. Yes I have read some of the faq's for HT but perhaps I've been a bit impatient. The 'other option' I was referring to is connecting an integrated amp to an avr via the avr's pre outs, in which the integrated amp does not have an HT bypass function. Only a few integrated amps have the HT bypass function, & so I'm trying to determine whether limiting myself to this select no is actually worth it. From what I've tried to understand the only advantage of an HT bypass function on an integrated is that it eliminates the 2 volume knob issue, which to me is of negligible advantage. My main concern is being able to play music in 2ch via the integrated amp only, despite it still being connected to an avr which is switched on (ie. The avr isn't doing anything). And it seems to me that you can easily do this regardless of whether there's an HT bypass on it or not. Thanks again for your help & patience. I'm very new to this game & do appreciate your help & advice.....
  15. Ok thank you. So with HT bypass I'm using the avr's preamp? (not the integrated's). With the other option, where I connect the avr to the integrated amp via the avr's preouts, whose preamp am I using? The avr's or the integrated's?
  16. Thanks very much for your help guys. What I'm thinking of is getting a quality integrated amp & connecting it to a cheapish avr (eg. denon 3312) via its preouts. My understanding is that I can then play music via the quality amp's preamp & power amp as 2.1 Ch & then when I want to watch tv or movie, can use the avr's processor, which then gets sent to the preamp & power amp of the quality integrated, then to the speakers..... Have I got this correct? What's the advantage of the 'HT bypass' thing? It has something to do with not worrying about the position of the volume dial on the avr & the integrated amp..... Thanks again for your ongoing help.....
  17. Hi guys, I've spent the last couple of months listening to a variety of different speaker & amp setups. After a lot of listening & consternation, I've narrowed it down to 2 systems: 1. Zu essence speakers with a high-efficiency class A amplifier (eg. Pass Labs XA30.5) 2. Dynaudio contour s3.4 speakers with a Plinius 9200 integrated amp They're both very different systems. I'm favouring the Zu setup in that they have better detail & dynamics, & much more lively to listen to. The dynaudios sound great when turned up to high volumes, but at normal or low listening levels they sound flat & a bit bland. I think this is an important factor: how does the setup sound at normal (cf. loud) listening levels? Ie. listening to music whilst being able to have a conversation with someone at the same time? The Zu's are definitely more 'musical.' So I find the Zu's more exciting to listen to, although my 2 fears are: 1. Would they still sound ok in a home theatre setup? Ie. 5.1 ch whilst watching a movie or sport? I'm worried about this as critics of these speakers say there can be a lot of tonal colouration due to their high efficiency, so would they sound a bit 'weird' when doing this? I would be using these speakers for tv & movie watching a lot......more than just listening to music alone. 2. I have a fairly bright environment (large open plan living room) which I have done things to improve, but nonetheless is still a bit bright. Would I be better suited in getting the dynaudios in the sense that they have a flatter frequency response? Thanks for your help!
  18. Ok thanks Ray. Disappointing this is the case. I'm thinking I might just get an all in 1 avr like the nad t785hd instead. Obviously won't give as good a sound as the plinius but it would be a much simpler & cheaper solution at least. I notice you mention you have the arcam 600. I've heard the arcam 500 & wasn't that impressed with the sound.....thanks again.
  19. Thanks everyone for your help. Ray: The remote doesn't allow me to switch the plinius to HT bypass? Sounds fickle but this would be a deal breaker for me......
  20. Hi guys For music I want to run a quality integrated amp (eg, plinius 9200) with some quality speakers (eg. Dynaudio contour s3.4) But I also want to run these speakers in a home theatre setup (5.1) for movies & tv but not overly fussed about the sound quality.... Obviously the plinius won't enable me to do the multiple-channel thing. So what are my options? Do I get something like a denon 3311 & use this as my home theatre avr, or is there a simpler way? Is there a way in which I could still use the plinius to power the contours while watching tv/movies whilst also powering the other speakers? I find this all a bit confusing so please keep it simple for my simple brain.... Thank you.
  21. Is 65 inch the largest pana plasma available in their lineup? On their website it seems like this is the case, but I'm aware of a 103 inch plasma in an av magazine.....now that would be sweet.....any idea if it's available, & if so, what the cost is?
  22. Thank you very much everyone for your suggestions. It really helps open things up for me. However, I've realized I won't be able to trial all these suggestions as i doubt I could find all of these in Adelaide.... Perhaps I should take a trip to Melbourne! To answer a few of your questions: - yes my room is definitely on the bright side. It's an open plan living area with lots of glass & floorboards. I have a couple of really large shaggy rugs on the floor. I have simple blinds for all the windows though. The room itself is approx 15m x 10m in size. - I am a musician who listens to a lot of music - mainly using AirTunes via my Mac as high bitrate mp3s, so I suppose I'm not a pure audiophile. I rarely listen to a cd (sorry to blaspheme) - I would like to eventually have a 5 channel system as I do watch a lot of movies & sport, but I suppose I wanted to start with getting a 2 channel system & build on this for later. But it seems that this may not be a good way to go....I'm a bit confused now! - I really am looking for something fairly warm considering my room. I currently have my friends b&w 684s with Cambridge 540 avr & centre speaker & it sounds very harsh, hollow & dry in sound. But it's hard to know what will suit my room until I actually put it in there! - Bassett: I've already tried the vaf's. The I66's sounded very good but I was expecting they'd blow me away at $8k. My gut feeling is vafs may be overpriced. - I quite like the nad avr's. I prefer to go the way of a single avr rather than pre-pro-power amp. I was looking at the nad 785hd. However there are none available in any Adelaide stores. Have been told nad will soon release the update to this, 787, but I can't find any reference to this on the net, so I presume it's a while away yet.......have been suggested arcam avr 500 but this seems expensive, & I don't like the look of the anthem Mrx 700 (fugly) & the fact that it's paradigms 1st attempt at an avr...... Any other suggestions would be appreciated for amps, although maybe I should request this in a different thread......I liked the denon 4311 for all it's bells & whistles but have been told it won't give as good sound as the arcam or the nad.... Thanks again for all your suggestions. It gives me something to work on......
  23. I'm looking at purchasing 2 x floorstanding speakers & a centre speaker. I plan to also purchase an AVR (possibly NAD T785HD or Anthem MRX700). My budget is about $5-8K for the floorstanders, about $1-2K on the centre speaker, & about $3K on the AVR. I've listened to: - Paradigm S100's - found them too bright & harsh for my ears (approx $5K) - Dynaudio X36's - quite liked these (approx $4K) - Krix Neuphonix - not dynamic enough, a bit bland in sound (approx $3.5K) - Vaf sig I66 - good allrounders, seemed to handle things well no matter what type of music I played (approx $8K) I live in Adelaide. Have a very large, live room unfortunately - open-plan living room with lots of glass. So I don't want anything too bright or harsh-sounding. The Dynaudios seem to be best value for money but the Vaf's sounded better (as you'd expect), but not 2x better! I've been recommended the Dynaudio contour S.4, which is a step-up on the X36's.... Are there any other brands of floorstanding speakers you would recommend in the 5-8K range? More importantly, would I find better sounding floorstanders than the Vaf sig I66's for $8K or less? I listen to a lot of music but also plan to eventually have surround sound with my home theatre setup. Thankyou!
  24. Excuse my ignorance, but what are the differences between the VT and ST panels? I'm looking at getting a 65 inch....... Thanks in advance.
  25. So I'm still waiting for the 65 inch to arrive in Oz - looks like it will be July at the earliest & August at the latest. Gee its hard being patient. I could get impatient & get a samsung but I think it's fair to say the panas have better reliability. I'd be interested in any direct comparisons between these 2 models in the 60ish inch size however.
