  1. I use the below picture settings for my D series:

    Picture mode:Vivid

    Backlight:Max

    Picture:Max

    Brightness:40

    Colour:60

    Colour Temperature:Cool

    Sharpness:18

    Noise reduction: Medium

    MPEG noise reduction:Low or medium

    Black Corrector: medium

    Adv. Contrast Enhancer:High

    Live Color:High

    Colour space:Wide

Overall-I find these settings to be excellent for my viewing needs (pay TV, 7HD/10HD and PS2).

Thanks for replying, tried your settings, though found them not clear/sharp enough:

    icture:Max

    Brightness:40

    Colour:60

    Colour Temperature:Cool

    Sharpness:18

    but when you use `vivid` you can`t access `Advanced ` settings ?

I have tried theses settings also:

    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/2007/06/20/...d3000-settings/

though again, it looks too SD for me, of course its subjective. Even with my old KLV V32 I obtained 2 professional calibration settings (people posted their settings), and ended up changing them slightly for my liking, using them a base starting point...bloody hell there`s so many (too many ?) options on the D.

I much prefer a very clear, crisp picture, though not overly bright nor colour saturated.

The difference between my old 32 and this one is quite noticeable on HD TV, & particularly with upscaled (1080i) DVD`s even my wife made comment, so it must be good.

If anyone has DVE settings I`m sure many would appreciate seeing them.

  2. Just picked, under extended warranty as a replacement, a KDL32 D, have searched for a thread/post on calibrated settings but have only found settings for bigger/different Sony models, which when applied look very average at best.

If anyone has calibrated theirs and would like to share their `knowledge` that`d much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Brick

  3. Yes I would be looking at alternative models too,

I`ve had a canon i9950 for about 18 months, (A3+) its expensive, but if your after quality it would be worthwhile to consider it. I love it, hasen`t missed a beat and its gets used a lot.

A quick look at the Canon range showed that the new equivalent model would be the Pixma Pro 9000

  4. A quick update, after many phone calls to Narta (& 27 days later), its finally sorted, I `m getting a `store credit` for a Sony KDL 32 S, so the outcome is positive.

I phoned JB today and they`ll price match a 32 D model for $1420, so I`m really hoping I can make up the $ difference of the price between the S and D model, which is what i`m really after. Anyone else experiencing hassles with warranty, keep on their case, or maybe I expected things too quickly, either way I `m very lucky I took up the extended warranty option, otherwise it`d be $3200 down the drain. Apparently the part(s) that were `broken/faulty` are not available & if they were (according to Narta, Sony said, the parts are too expensive in comparison to what the set is worth).

  5. In most cases under extended warranty and or insurance claims you will get a replacement to the same (or close enough) specification unit, price dont come into play, as we are all aware same / similar technology from yesteryear can now be bought at half the price.

I`ve resided to the fact that (hopefully) Narta will provide credit for a S series or at best a V model, though my dealings with Narta have not started out well, as initially they said that they`d faxed the order through to a local repair company, but after 3 days of nothing I phoned the repairer and found out Narta had NOT sent them anything (called back Narta & they said they`ll send it now). THe repairer came to collect the TV the day they received the fax from Narta.

7 days had passed and I phoned the repairer, they informed me that the TV was not worth repairing & would send Narta a report stating this. I wait 3 days & phone Narta....they tell me they have not received the repairers report (WTF?). Back on the phone to the repairer (who I find really helpful), only to find that they had sent the report the day I phoned them (3 days previous), they assured me that they did indeed sent it, but would send another copy today.

THe women explained that Narta always seem to say that they have sent something (when they haven`t) or say they haven`t received something (when its been sent to them via fax/email). Stalling tactics this early on is a bit ominous...time will tell.

  6. Yeh the hopefully the later, though having re-read the T&C` it states replace with `Equivalent Specifications` so maybe I won`t get the KDL32D, but if thats the case hopefully they`ll give me cridit for the rrp (from Sony site) of $1599 for the V series (or worse case) $1399 for the S series, then I could add a small amount & get a D model (read I get be had for $1499), I`ll just have to wait & see.

I was actually hoping someone else may have had a similar experience with Narta warranty & could tell of their experience.

Hi, thanks for the link, though my understanding is because I have pursued this through `extended warranty` (I`ll contact Narta today to see what their decision is), I really don`t need to contact Sony re: paid $3000 for TV, lasts < 2 yrs, the cost of repair is not ecomonically viable, I expected it to last for at least 5(?) years...I`d want a refund !

THis may be bit presumptuous, though what pisses me off is that I bought the best spec`d Sony 32 (& paid for it), but under extended they could just `give` me the S model (the current lowest spec 32) as a replacement (as the specs are similar to mine), I`ll post the outcome, hopefully soon.

    Cheers

  7. I would imagine that they would need to supply you with an 'equivalent' model.

If this means equivalent in features then this would probably mean not the top model as the newer models have more features than sets two years ago

Alternately they may provide the equivalent model in terms of hiearchy, but the best outcome would be if they 'cashed out' and gave you the $ value you paid two years ago ;)

  8. Hi, my 2yr old `32` V bravia is dead, (started to turn itself off & wouldn`t turn back on) anyway I took out extended warranty with Narta. They arranged to have it picked up (from my house last week). I just phoned them & they said it was not economical to repair & will pass on the report to Narta.

My question is given that at the time I purchased the set it was the top Sony `32` model will Narta give me the current top of the line `32` Sony ?

    http://www.sony.com.au/homecinema/catalog/...ategoryId=34643,

which of course is approximately $1200 cheaper than what I originally paid. Or could I ask for a a different brand ? Is the Sony 32 inch (see link) one of the better 32 LCD`s ?

    Cheers

  9. My Bravia (32v) is doing the same thing, it started turning itself off months ago, I`d unplug the power cord for 30 seconds, plug it back in & it would be fine (till next time). But now it will not stay on at all. There was a firmware/software update by Sony to address the problem but my serial number was not within the specified range. Its now in getting repaired (under extended warranty), but I`d be curious as to what the problem actually is ?

I have read that it may be a sign the unit is dying (I hope so as I`d like a free new model :10bit, 100hz), its just lucky I have another set otherwise I could be without a TV for (potentially) a few months.

    Good luck with your problem.

    Cheers

  10. Yeah mine has gone too, since last night. I don't know much about this whole field so I have no idea how to troubleshoot it. Since it's not just me then I s'pose that must mean the problem is at Ch 10's end...

Thats a relief, I was hoping others were also experiencing the same problem...hope ten `fix` it soon.

  11. I`m at Merewether & last night channel 10 via the HDSTB is gone, & after re-scan (a few times) its still not there (all other channels are fine), I can get 10 via analogue, but was wondering is anyone else having the same problem, or is my HDSTB faulyty., as nothing has changed, except to reception for 10 ???

    Its 5pm & still no HD 10 recption...grrrrr

  12. It's most important to work out which way the antenna is pointing. Sugerloaf or Merewether.

Its still pointing to Cooks Hill (I`m in Merewether)

How are the other digital channels? All hi quality?

Yep, except now SC10/HD are a little patchy at times, but OK, this will probably be fixed when the new ariel is moved to the top of the pole (this is how it was with the old ariel = ALL channels XLNT PQ).

All 3 Ten chanels are now gone...bummer.

Anyway I`m just happy knowing how to the rectify the problem, and not having a doddgy Sony HDSTB.

  13. This is quite odd, as without any alterations (on roof) i ran a scan this moring and now have SC10 HD & SC 10 Newcastle, earlier I also picked up TEN Digital, Ten Guide & Ten HD ???, but now the 3 `Tens` have no picture or sound (I can only see their respective i-plates)...???

THe tech came this moring and the actual pole on the roof needs replacing, he replaced the amp and ariel, but placed the new ariel much lower on the roof pole, so maybe thats why I couldn`t get SC 10, but now I can...which in itself is strange as nothing has changed ????

    I dunno.

  14. Hi, I have recently set up a Sony HDSTB to my V series 32 Bravia, and I got all the stations & the PQ was excellent.

I live in a block of units in Merewether and other residents (in the last few days) had poor reception on 5 and 7 (ABC & Prime) they don’t have a STB, & I also had poor reception on SD, but through the STB it was fine, so it didn’t really bother me.

The residents arranged for an Arial tech to fix the poor reception and he did, but since then i can’t get 10 at all, & all ABC`s are poor with the picture breaking up.

Please if anyone has any suggestions as to how to rectify the problem, let me know.

I have re-scanned channels a few times, but still it fails to pick up 10 ?

    Regards

    Brick

  15. Bought this on xmas eve from Dick smith powerhouse for $349 now they are selling them for 699. cant get channel 10 at all or nine. Sony are arranging for the service tech to come over and do the firmware upgrade .

Mate, thats a bummer, but a great price, what s/w date did yours have ?
