  1. DSE have these @ Powerhouse in Melbourne for $1495.. but at a Prahran electrical store in Chapel St I could get $1459, whilst JBs up the road was $1693 !! [hopeless] need to try Good guys, anyone been to Nundawading Homecentre?
  2. yeah .. good price! paid $659 in the end... oh well. just take my chances with it.. I do trust Pioneer gear
  3. yeah great! .. I've still got a Pioneer DVD player my son uses now going strong.. after 5 years! cheers
  4. Anyone got one of these?? . http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Pioneer-DVD-400...1QQcmdZViewItem . 400GB !! just laid out a deposit for one of these at Billy Guyatts and hoping I picked a goodie!? older model I know but what's the thoughts out there? .. wanting to record Foxtel cheers
  5. OK got the manual online .. S-VHS or RCA .. R U guys happy with this unit? is the remote useful? the remote in particular is more important lately, seems some manufacturers forget we only have 4 fingers! cheers
  6. Guy's I was looking at this unit myself [755] I want to be able to record Foxtel, what inputs does it have ? s-vid / scart ? cheers
  7. Good story did a similar thing with JB once myself. Was looking for my AV Receiver and someone on this Forum had picked up the model Yamaha for $450 I'd been salivating over, which apparently was at that price, that week only. I raced out and went to my local JB only to see the Yellow !! SALE !! price of $699 .. when I asked him for a better price he said $650 .. I told him .. how about $450 .. he just came back with Nah Ya Jokin cobba!.. then I told him to check his little book and come and see me, was a case of 'Mate I work here what would you know..' . .. his face when he checked his little book was worth $$$millions! He came back and gave me it for $450..
  8. Well a w/e of limited playing has only provided one negative in my situation.. no Mute function.. a real pity as I bypass the internal tinny speakers of my LCD to some nice Logitech Surrounds and now have no control overall the picture is very nice @ 1080i .. the above drawback is the only niggle
  9. haven't even got home yet just passing on the info
  10. Sony Central in Chapel St Prahran have this unit for $199 .. few blocks down at JB HiFi they were $398 !! . picked one up. as of 2pm they had 100 left
  11. Rezok Did you end up getting the Logitech Z550 speakers? getting a little grief from "she with whom I watch TV" about the crappy quality and buzzing. She wants me to get another Aiko under warranty and I'm battling to convince her they are all the same and we might need to pick up some Logitech Z550s I'm @ work.. does the set have audio out ?? for the Logitech Z550s ? cheers
  12. Thanks Paul.. have you tried it yourself?
  13. OK good.. save meself some $$$ then.. did have my eye on the Pioneer 696AV but happy with saving some $$ sorry about the extra post! just clicked submit and the session seed to hang, clicked stop on the browser then submit again.. oh well
  14. Hi just wanted to pose a query.. if I'm using my HTPC with it's inbuilt DVD Player/Rcrdr & Geforce 6600LE video card with relevant drivers and with this playing back a normal DVD, when I have my LCD panel attached via DVI > HDMI, isn't a form of upscaling being done? ..given I can set the driver under XP to output 720P or 1080i ? then the LCD is left to portray the picture in it's native format? in my case 1360x768. reason I'm asking is do I really need an upscaling DVD player if this is the case? input appreciated Cheers

  16. good one! they do seem to get a thumbs up, my current DVD player is a Pioneer. But I got thinking... doesn't the HTPC perform upscaling in a way? I use it's DVD player to watch movies so isn't the video card and software already upscaling to 720P 1360x768 ? from standard DVD format 525i ? do I really need another device?
  17. It seems fine to me the way I've got it setup under WinMCE as a monitor, Internet via Firefox looks fine. The AIKOs main role here is as a TV. The rest, under media centre is a bonus. Using a TinyUSB HDTV receiver and I'm really pleased with it's tuning ability. I'm happy as... now for the upscaling DVD player more $$$ Pioneer 696AV looks good! $279 @ JB
  18. OK to my eyes the DVI <> HDMI input is clearest... I'm happy with it. Running at 1360x768 .. I tried power strip couldn't get 1366x768 and only managed to beef up the Clock & DRAM speed for my 6600LE .. Have a couple of sample HD movies from UK Sky Channel site.. and they look absolutely glorious on the AIKO! All Blacks doing the Haka, a National Geographic underwater scene, and marshland scene .. the flowers you could fair dinkum touch! That was my benchmark and it surpassed it. Just bypassing the internal speakers for now and using external surround amp. PIP works well too, just a pity it doesn't support Component with/and HDMI, so using S-Video.
  19. just dropped into Jaycar and picked up both a DVI<> HDMI adapter $15 .. JB Hifi wanted $50 AND an XVGA male ended cable funnily enuff. again $15.. I'm surprised DVI won't help me.. [disappointed!!] might have to fix the speakers meself then... maybe.. better speakers? dunno
  20. OK.. spent a little bit of time with the AIKO I have the vibrating speaker issue a few people have mentioned. A fair bit annoying. ..but do I exchange it if it's a common problem? Connected my Topfield SD STB via Component. Picture quality is ... OK perhaps a little smudgey. Guess I was expecting a little more clarity. Doesn't appear to be sharp enough... watching the TODAY show this am. Colours are superb. Set at STANDARD mode. I attached a DVD player via Component @ BigW b4 I bought the TV and was impressed... a bit underwhelmed with my STB picture. Still need to check attaching it via DVI <> HDMI on my HTPC.. tonight hopefully! I'm hoping for some improvement there!
  21. cool thanks.. I'm using an Nvidia 6600LE and haven't really experimented.. tonight I'll try a few things out ! just downloaded Powerstrip so I'll try it out. keen to hear other experiences..
  22. yeah.. I dived in at $798 too.. so pretty pleased! it was the last one!
  23. Guy's I pick mine up today, after lay-bying [?] before Christmas. It has just about killed me off reading all these posts.. drooling & fidgeting Running a homemade HTPC with Component / DVI / VGA outputs. Now which one would you guys recommend on experience? Obviously I'd need a DVI<>HDMI adapter of some sort. But are there preferences now that you've all had some time with your AIKO .... would like to hear some opinions. Cheers
  24. anyone got 1 of these ? what's the verdict ? cheers
