So if poker was in HD you'd watch it?
There are lots overseas programs still in 4:3 as HD is not universally being for broadcasts right now. These shows are around 2/3 years old and in SD anyway so they look as good as they get no matter where they are broadcast
Much of the live stuff is WS HD so try watching those shows if 4:3 s a little tough on your eyes / TV
mate the point is that the channel is called one "HD"
what a load of crap.
hey, let's call a channel "HD" but we'll also show SD stuff on it.
genius !!
-
ummm on that point, poker and something else that was on the other night (can't remember) was in 4:3 and SD.
So much for digital one in high definition and widescreen.
What crap!
Oh oh can i please watch some left over sport??!?
Ugh
-
i guess i'm the only one who was annoyed with this... oh well i can live with it i'spose

So pretty average game blah blah Ben Cousins blah blah...
What was concerning was the sound volume, I'm pretty sure I could always hear the ball being kicked off the boot or a big punch. Not so much handballs as they obviously don't make a large sound.
It was like watching the game on mute except for crowd noises and commentary.

And as for the discussion above for GH or real guitar, without big noting myself(millions of better players than me out there), I have played in bands and can play the all the Metallica songs, (rythym only for me, hard enough for Metallica) and MUSE is my fave stuff to play BUT I really love the GH an RB games. Almost enjoy the games as much as a real jam at the moment(not sure if that is for or against the arguement )
And I do believe that playing the Metallica solos in particular on hard (DLC in GH and RB) has improved my real soloing on the guitar. It has helped teach my fingers to move around quickly on single notes, hammers and pulloffs. Now to finish them all on Expert!!!
This is great to hear, i only replied to this thread because i had been a long time Metallica fan, stopped listening to them after "Load"
I could never get back into them with any of their newer releases.
Great to see the metal genre being represented either way

Add this complete balls up to the very long list of crap we have coming from all of our Australian broadcasters.
If it's not one thing it's another, why do other countries have their **** together?
Can not just one station get it right?
CH10 you suck!
-
no, no, no you all miss the point.
i was trying to say that there's a lot of digital alternatives now to the real thing, even the Wii.
and i was saying how many people would forego having a go at the real thing even things like bowling, golf on the Wii and instrument playing in favour of just staying home in front of the TV.
so dortamur what were people doing before the games and even video games and tv was around? were we all chainsawing people, stealing cars and jumping off buildings? just because you can now do stuff digitaly doesn't mean we were doing them for real
-
yeah imagine that, or imagine trying to play it with a real guitar.
oh wait I can play it on a real guitar.
these sort of games really disturb me. i wonder how many people would be motivated to pick up a real guitar or drum kit and learn how to play an instrument? i suspect it wouldn't be many at all. probably because we are becoming lazy which is a shame as i can see the future of music being some sort of digital replica of the real thing.
sorry....rant over

Well there you go. After about 20 years of asking this question I have finally found someone that has at least been asked (although not actually participate). I guess it had to happen one day.
Can I ask why you did not fit their requirements? Were you one of these terrible people that did not watch FTA (therefore we don't want to know about you!!) or perhaps you were one of those curious people that watched digital television.
heya i was phoned and asked if i wanted to be part of the national tv survey panel, which i of course said yes.
i wasn't eligible because the system interferes with you house alarm!!
what bull **** hey?
so anyone with a house alarm would be eligible? don't most people building new houses have an alarm? ours certainly did!
so their pool consists of people who can't afford house alarms or people in old suburbs because all new land estates with new houses wouldn't be eligible.....
-
yeah the quality was much better with the last one dayer (Hobart), so the problem with the consitent quality must be either the cameras or the feed?
It seems to vary in quality as to what oval the games are played at
-
yeah looks like i spoke too soon.
****ing ch9 Perth!!
This PQ is the worse ever.
****ing CH9 Perth!!! What a bunch of crap. Give the rights to someone else if you can't get your **** together...
-
I have to agree bluestar, there was no blocking at all this time, which proves it was their transmission that was stuffed during the tests.
There was something wrong with the volume though way too soft in the commentary box which meant I was turning volume up down, up down especialy when the ads were on.
-
Wow, after reading this last page of this thread I think I've developed a migrane.....
I thought I'd find some useful info
-
I've just about finished a complaint letter to mail to Ch 9 as per their details on the website.
It also states that they don't respond to emails so I may get an answer if I send a good old fashioned letter....still typed though, do people still handwrite letters???
I'm bringing up problems associated with Perth broadcast such as the snowy picture from a few days ago, sound drop out and mainly the blocking. Anyone else want to add anything else?
-
is anyone else in perth getting blocking un the PQ?
seems to be happening when the camera is panning or something is moving in the foreground.
apart from that the pq is fantastic, i'm viewing on a pioneer LX508
-
In Perth, it looks horrible (9HD) - does anyone else see the picture block up into squares every time there is movement (eg. camera panning). It also seems to happen when the picture changes from one camera angle to another. This is happening on 3 different tv's, with 3 different tuners and antennas. Is it happening everywhere, or has our service here been downgraded yet again ???
Cheers !
Yeah there's blocking, sound drop out and yesterday the picture went snowy analogue style.
We're getting the works in Perth.
So frustrating.....Digital is supposed to be the duck's nuts
-
speaking of crap CH9 has anyone seen the Today show lately, in the last few days?
the quality is normaly crystal clear now it looks worse than SD, almost 640 x 480.....maybe not bad but shithouse either way, why is it so hard to transmit quality
-
Yeah they've been on my 'to do list' for a while finally getting to see them
-
was a good movie, never seen it before still holds up well today.
Recorded Clockwork orange and still to see Full Metal Jacket
-
It seems the major gripe is the shortness of the game and it's longevity.
I think they should have had a 2 player option as in like a street fighter that would have made the game more appealing
-
Yeah agree with all, i did a search on this topic a few days ago but nothing came up until now.
I could not believe my eyes when the credits started rolling as I finished the game. I only bought it on a whim last Friday!!! Only played it late nights before going to bed for an hour and didn't play it every night!!!
I must say that it is very fun especially with all the force moves, finishing moves, blocking etc. Also all the genuine Star Wars special effects are cool but gee am I spewing I bought it, 1 week's play for $80 is the biggest rip off ever. I took me 4 months to get through GTA4 (on purpose I was going slow to make it last) but I enjoyed it all and still crank it up to muck around now and then and I will redo the whole game for sure.
I can't say that this has any longevity whatsoever, I'm going to see if I can exchange it with another game tomorrow.....
-
yeah this is exactly what i do
i have all the cables required in the HT room and in the family room so i can easily disconect and reconnect
-
i know its a few pages back but current advertised price for the LX508 is $5499 which makes it a very goot buy and with a bit of haggling whould be able to do much better than that.
i am biased but i haven't seen anything that betters the KUROs in any retailer or specialist store
-
yeah i can't fault it at the moment and i agree with the ads, i always have to turn down volume when they come on

I'm gobsmacked that people would recommend the topfield as a 'nanna friendly' device.
I'm technicaly savvy, been into computers for years and own quite a bit of HT gear both in my HT and living room.
The topfield PVR is the worst piece of gear I've ever seen in regards to user friendly, everything from the GUI to the remote is ugly.
I haven't read the whole thread but do not buy a nanna a Topfield !!
If you don't believe me get a retailer to plug one in and go through it yourself. I mean on the remote there's not even a button labeled 'recorded programs' or anything similar. She will have to remember by memory what buttons do what.
