Do yourselves a favour and do some searching on this forum for the Panasonics (200A & 300A - basically the same TV's with different cosmetics).
Especially this thread: Green edges on faces on my Pana TX-86PW200A
If you are at all fussy about image quality, I would steer clear of the 86cm Panasonics (and probably the 76cms as well). I had mine for 10 months before it went back to the store. I'd complained about the thing after 5 months (when I started to notice the problems), and it took that long to get rid of it. Panasonic basically agreed that ALL their 86cm TVs (200A and 300A) had the same problem and exchanging mine for another would not fix my problem, so they let me return it for a refund. (I suppose it was a cheap 10 month rental for me).

I managed to find a 7800TA in a store today, and it looks like a very nice panel. I had a quick play with the remote (which is much nicer than the Fujitsu remote) but I couldn't find anything in the menus for adjusting image hight, width or position. These settings are easily accessed on the Fujitsu.
Maybe these settings are in a hidden service menu on the Hitachi.
Anyone know if these are easily accessible on the Hitachi?

are there any "built in" features on the Fuji to reduce this kind of issue?
The fujitsu does have a "picture orbiter" setting - this slightly moves the picture by 5 to 15 pixels every hour or so (user configirable), but I think this is mainly to reduce burn in of stationary images like station logos etc.
Most people seem to recommend having the screen filled (no 4:3 or ratios larger than 1.78:1) for the first few hundred hours, after which the burn-in problem is significantly reduced. So when you first get the panel watch 4:3 stretched (or not at all) for a few weeks, after that you should be right.

Hey all
How many people do we have out there waiting on the US model Fujitsu's?
I gather you do mean those that have received ws instead of us models?
Not those of us that are waiting for us models to come into stock at retail stores for a definite purchase?
I think he means "waiting to buy" a US model.

To get the same 4:3 image height as a 68cm TV, you need an 86cm widescreen TV.
-
Fujitsu better hurry up with that US model or i may do something stupid.
I think buying a Teac plasma would definitely be classed as "something stupid".
-
Whatever the future is, it certainly won't be Plasma.
May well be true - BUT, if you want a big screen TV today without having to wait another year or two, what do you do? I think you buy a plasma.
And in a year or two when LCDs are better than plasma's, something else will have come along (like SED) which will be better than LCD.

Hey, I'm in trouble for NOT getting the screen quicker (I need the US version now). Every couple of days I get asked whether I've been out to look at screens, and if not, why not.
LOL zorg in the same boat but that's my fault for saying the last item I got was the last thing I will geti need WAF approvalcheers laurie
ps feel it's going to cost me a dress/shoe/handbag!

How many people here would buy the Fujitsu US models if they were available now? If there are enough of us they may do something about it?
I would have bought a US model a month ago, if I could have got one. So, yes I'll buy one as soon as they're available. But if I manage to see a 7000 series hitachi in the mean time, I may go for that instead - I'm sick of waiting.

I assume the word US does not mean as in USA!!
US = USA, Silver bezel
WS = World, Silver bezel

What i want to know is since Australia supports 1080i HD, how do the plasmas that have native 1024x768 render 1080i. Do they convert it to 720p?
I was under the impression that 1024 line panels simply dropped 28 lines from the top and 28 lines from the bottom of the image, therefore not having to do any rescaling vertically.

Yep glenncol, am referring to the Fujitsu panels. Good point. I wasn't sure if you thought the additional sound source might interfere with the AVR's speaker config for surround-sound HT. i.e. from a listening experience point of view.
IMO, You shouldn't have the panel's speakers on at the same time as your surround speakers - it's one or the other.
I'd be using the surround speakers for DVDs (movies etc) and just the stereo panel speakers for regular TV watching.

Do you know if settings are save permanently as soon as they are changed?
Is there a clean way to exit the service menu - I ended up just turning the TV off?
I think they are saved as soon as they are changed (at least they seem to be). The only way out of the service menu, that I could find, was to switch the TV off.

2. They are grey imports so Fuji Australia wont warranty them.
3. Us model......huh what the hell are you smoking ?
4. Well we just rang Fuji and we were told there is no such creature.
Those three answers are basically the same as I got from Megamart in Perth, a few weeks back, when asking about the 42" version.
plus another: "Oh, that's obviously an internet furphy"
I'm waiting (im)patiently for an official release of these units by Fujitsu. I'm getting a lot of grief from the family becuase we're back with a 68cm 4:3 (since I returned our W/S pana CRT).

Try this (but no guarantees)...
- Set the volume to zero
- Set the timer (via the remote) to 30 minutes (usually just one press on the timer button)
- Open the flap on the TV
- Press the "recall" button on the remote at the same time as pressing the volume down button on the TV
(The recall button is the one that puts the AV/channel info on to the screen - the button looks like a TV with a "+" in the corner).
Wait a few seconds and you should be in the service menu.
IIRC pressing "2" and "3" on the remote cycles through various settings, pressing volume up/down changes the settings.
It's a good idea to write down all your initial settings before playing with them.
- Set the volume to zero

...they are expecting to make the "US" version widely available in Australia as at approx July (waiting for existing WS stock to clear)...
They told me "...late May, early June". I don't want to wait any longer than that!
-
... I've never heard of an "AS" model.
The manual pdf that I have mentions all three models ("U", "W" & "A") from the first page in the manual it states: "All operational items of A model are the same as W model".
Perhaps "A" = Australia and "W" = World?
Note: the "S" on the end of the model names means Silver.
-
No time like the present. I hooked up with one of the other guys from the forum (dodgr) and we set up a demo this afternoon at MegMart with the Fujitsu 42 (US)...
So, you're saying that they actually had a "US" model in stock and on show? My local Megamart refused to believe that they were even available from Fujistu.
-
Fujitsu are saying "...commencing late May to early June, the US model equivalent with HDMI input will be available in Australia".
So, it may be worth waiting, especially if you're having trouble sourcing the "US" version. But, a 4-6 week wait is going to kill me.

YOU CHECK OUT THESE SCREENS IN THE SHOPS RIGHT NOW - ON THE 42PD7800TA - (THE TV VERSION OF THIS MONITOR) - AND IF YOUR INTERESTED IN A NEW HD PANEL YOU CAN'T BEAT IT AT THE MOMENT.
I haven't been able to find one of these panels in store yet.
-
I saw the Fuji 42 AVM-II for $4,999 (without bargaining) at Home Zone Digital World in Sydney (George Street) - don't think is the US model - however you could probably order in...... nice price for Fuji....
That'd have to be the SD model (P42VHA40WS) surely?

When I asked David at Bluedo about a discount for Harmony remotes he replied,
"We created a new special shipping method just for our Australian customers - it's automatically available for any item or package under 3 lbs."
Not sure exactly how this works.
I put a Harmony remote in the shopping cart and went to the checkout - there was a special shipping option for Australia only which had a cost of $26. So, I guess the $26 is the special price.

I just got hold of a Fujitsu manual for all the versions ("A", "W" & "U") of the 40 series panels. Apparently the "S" in "WS" & "US" is for "silver" (as in the colour of the bezel).
Anyway, as usual with manuals, it explains how to connect different types of source equipment to the panel. On the pages dealing with your DVD Player & your Satellite Tuner (I assume that also relates to STBs) it mentions HDMI connections (obviously for the "U" model only).
BUT, in both cases it says:
If the component to be connected is equipped with HDMI output terminal, component video output terminal, it is recommened to connect to the component video terminal. Now, there's no "or" after "HDMI output terminal" but it sounds to me that they are recommending connecting via component over HDMI. Why would this be?

Check www.froogle.com and many online retailers are taking pre-orders for the 880 at around $160-170
www.bluedo.com has the Harmony 659 for $94.95, but they haven't got the 880 listed yet
Also note on the Logitech site the RRP of the 880 is the same as the 688 at $249, and Bluedo's price for the 688 is $155...it's all becoming clearer!
OK, doesn't sound quite as bad - but even $155 + $26 shipping = AU$231 still pretty expensive.

My 200A 86cm also looked awesome most of the time. It's just certain images that would cause the green/orange edge syndrome. If you can't see the problem that's good, but if you want to check then I suggest you hire out "The Prince & Me" and look for the scene I used in the photos. Then again, maybe it'd be best if you don't look for it - I was very happy with the set for the first few months, but after seeing the problem once, I started seeing it much more often with various DVDs and shows via the STB.
