  1. a blue indicator on your profile icon?? (i understand twitter did/does/tried some similar) upfront payment is a great model to get revenue flows early in the mix (i.e. upfront payment for pre-paid mob plan vs time lag and effort chasing up bills from plans). but it will put off many off. is there some way to be credited X-amount of free listings? per month/quarter, maybe based on other community involvement (tricky to define and test this for the system), or buy a pack of listings? and that blue (or whatever) icon shows you're fair and contributing member I like the idea of capping the fee at an amount to get more out of hi-$$ transactions but as pointed out, it's the same effort to oversee a $100 item vs $10,000 so it's reflective of this similar effort. i've made a few donations just thinking it was the right thing to do, i didn't realise 'donation' was essentially the label for seller fees.
  2. last night finished watching this gritty and dry, atmospheric, classic acting and a twisting plot (if a bit hard to follow some times) recommend (I'm yet to unpack it's historic context and accuracy, but it's there if you're that kinda of person)
  3. as proposed, article on the DD https://www.petervis.com/gallery/Vintage Advertisements/hitachi-hi-fi-1979/unitorque-motor.html
  4. cheers mine has a little pitting and green tarnish of the chrome in places under the main arm body. only noticeable if you go looking for it. but also, if not careful you can impart some twist in the azimuth dimension and because of the s-shape this muddles other alignment factors. i pay extra attention to that but it got me thinking. and if it turns out to be a simple project, including finding something worth the effort, then it could maybe I should look into it earnestly. although I'm finding it hard to find anything to guide me down this road
  5. sorry to come late and dig this up - love the thread, maybe because I run the same table!! no, the DD motor does not need oil servicing I've confirmed this myself a few times, it's in the manual someplace in a table i think and is stated almost like a marketing benefit. there's also a good article on the DD from back in the day. I'll see if i can find and link this when I'm home tonight. Hope the TT is still getting and giving some love. I was actually looking into the idea of replacing the tone arm does anyone have any thoughts, experience, etc in this regard? I wouldn't know where to start. I can understand the arm length and overhang but anchoring it and anything else is a gap in my knowledge. I don't even know what I don't...
  6. another vampyr film. different. but done well. recommend. for a light hearted violent larf that doesn't over stay it's welcome
  7. if I didn't go down the tube path this was on my short list, and a pretty good price to get the PSU as well GLWTS
  8. My uncle knows the bass player quite well, I think he even lived down the road from him up here in Brisbane. true story
  9. my journey has been different. for obvious reason and there's limited value talking to these because these are expected and somewhat universal. for example, I value classical but not over rock/alt/metal, while jazz, pop and synthesised dance are also in the mix. we could go on. but at the fundamental level, i've been driven not so much by identifying issues to fix but also opportunities to add something that appeals. And not so much a focus on what I currently have, but what I could have.... Enter external influence - this forum, printed and digital reviews, product marketing, hype, and spin, the Jones' next door, etc. etc. I took the perspective that a) I'm not really in a position to self-assess my system against personal preferences or universal criteria, and b) when pursuing a hobby (golf, riding, gaming, art) we generally (sub-consciously or intentionally) allocate some ongoing budget. So i have x$$ per time-period at my disposal. I come across something and without necessarily tracing it to a perceived deficiency in my system or getting hands on with the item like a demo, I'll do my best to work out if it's worth taking a punt on in the expectation that it will provide a "general" improvement verse something specific, OR at the very least add to my overall experience and appreciation of the various factors that contribute to the listening experience. for example * Gaia iso footers - there was enough non-biased (IMO) material to justify the investment even if I didn't really know what problems needed addressing * I started with an entry level Rega phono and Onkyo integrated. I was rather opportunistic when replacing these, capitalising on value for money for an outright solid performer, not necessarily a roadmap to take the system in a certain direction or address a system deficiency. * I invested in a dedicated room and room treatment because it made sense to have a good listening space regardless of the system I completely understand if this "cause it's better" haphazard approach is at odds with those who are more deliberate. And tbh, I'd like to think my maturity in this hobby, at some point will, shift and warrant a more introspective and hands on approach.
  10. you'll get all sorts of recommendations cause there's many good options going. I've got a nice 1978 Hitachi, Denon is another good option, etc, etc. My thinking is the tone arm is a consideration, it will impact your cart choices, assuming you want to also consider options here too - lightweight vs medium weight. a plain vanilla J/S-shape with interchangeable headshell means you can swap carts readily when you have a headshell for each cart. if they are more or less the same arm save your $ for other bits. also I'd suggest not stressing too much over details at this stage (as you may not really be able to tell the difference anyway) vs just grabbing what looks good and is available so you can get something set and working, having a system to listen to while you keep digging is better than going round in circles in the details. once you've got some good listening time you know what you like and will be better positioned to understand options that come along as they well. happy journeys!

  15. a few nights back I streamed this yes it's a vampire flick, but push past this and it's actually done well, solid acting from Jamie, it moves along, and is generally fun, the take on action segments is refreshing without being too over the top (for a vamp film)
  16. few nights back we had guests for a film night and I showed this. it's fun. so many over the top characters.

  21. have you got the bronze back in service yet? or did you move on to an alternative to the 2M??
  22. watched this take on Tarzan over the weekend. I enjoyed it if a bit Mr Mills-and-Boon defeats the laws of physics at times. good cast, story OK (just), and they did well trying to keep to the legend of old without getting too corny.
  23. some of my fav light styles have that lovely rich and mysterious undertone of glowing bronze interesting blend
