  1. DON"T!!! I've had mates that have sold all their life time collection of CD's to finance going down the streaming/downloading path, and were so disappointed they almost necked themselves. They've stopped now being audiophiles and listening to music seriously any more, they just use it now for background music or watch TV other times. Just get a great CD Transport and Dac and keep your thousands of CD's Cheers George
  2. Gale 401's are a match made in heaven for an ME75 poweramp, just perfect synergy. And I believe after talking to him today that @Audionutz may have one he thinking of putting up in the classifieds, and maybe a ME preamp as well. Cheers George
  3. Stunning sounding speaker, sound great with amps that do current well down to 2ohms, and that 16hz, is not BS it's a transmission line and will do it (with the right amp) I think to get something to do what these can today >$10k History on these http://www.titanstory.de/en GLWTS Cheers George
  4. YEAH! of course, costs are fraction of a good linear supply. I had a Linn cd12 which was supposed to be the best an smp could be, yet I could still see smp noise on the output, very small but it was there, and if you have a look on the net pics of it, the smp section is all encased in billett aluminium Cheers George
  5. Check "Interparcel", they don't have trucks or drivers, but they tender any of the other courier companies in the area at that time to pickup and deliver. EG: I got a 25kg big subwoofer picked up in (VIC) Geelong and delivered to Manly (NSW) for $36!!!! and it just happened to be TNT that was the courier in the area at that time. Cheers George
  6. You have a PM Jack, re a possible purchase. Cheers George
  7. Then there would be no need to use shielded cable, as nothings shielded anyway. That why all studio gear uses wood chassis Cheers George
  8. Nice unit, should sound good with 4 x PCM 1702's in it one of the best R2R multibit dacs. And the Sharp H8147AF laser are still plenty full and cheap. GLWTS Cheers George
  9. Not if they're those stupid wood chassis ones. Cheers George
  10. I hear a big difference for the better between PCM 24/96 and 16/44 using https://referencerecordings.com/ CD's. But this is with a dac that is discrete R2R multibit 24/96, I listened to the same with a YBA dac that is DS and the difference wasn't as obvious. Cheers George
  11. Yes and also penetrating any unshielded audio cable/equipment in vicinity, and radiating back into the mains. Cheers George
  12. Here's a novel little experiment to show how bad SMP's can be, get an AM portable radio set it low on the dial off station, turn up the volume control and go near to an SMP with it, and hear it squeal like a stuffed piglet. Cheers George
  13. Which again is crazy as the poweramps are xlr only!!! I put rca's as well on both my ME850's with a switch to switch between them. Cheers George
  14. ME's use local feedback as do the other mentioned that don't use global feed back. Ever since the old ME150's, just about all the bigger ME's have balanced inputs and no (SE) rca inputs, trouble is most ME's have 1kohm input impedance that only the ME or Krell pre can drive (really stupid), this is easily changed to 68kohms so then any preamp can then drive them. Cheers George
  15. Both, SMP's make even more hf noise. Cheers George
  16. Yes even though the power supply that comes with the Lightspeed is a toroidal supply and very low in noise, the battery has just a touch less measured noise, and many say they can hear a difference but couldn't A/B it, it's small but there, for an even blacker background. BTW stay away from SMP (Switch Mode) wall warts they are noisy Cheers George
  17. Yes, many use a 12vdc battery, just make sure it's has a 2.1mm X 5.5mm plug, and very important centre is positive. I recommend these rechargeable lithium-ion (li-ion) ones, which would give up to a couple of weeks of listening, before a recharge is needed. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Portable-3500mAh-DC12V-Lithium-Battery-Pack-Rechargeable-Li-ion-LED-Board-CCTV/182278402926?hash=item2a70a3b36e:g:UTAAAOSwAfVb3UP6 Make sure with the seller it has a 2.1mm x 5.5mm plug and center is positive. Cheers George
  18. Correct, there are no resistors in the signal path, just one LDR. Cheers George
  19. It's no different to having two pairs of rca outputs on a passive preamp Cheers George
  20. Just use a pair of these, that's what I use for my 2 x bi-amped ME850's https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PRO-2-x-RCA-Y-SHAPE-SPLITTER-1-MALE-PLUG-to-2-FEMALE-SOCKETS-AV-ADAPTER-GOLD/202706925775?epid=4028164814&hash=item2f324638cf:g:r7gAAOSwUDZcmJ2X Cheers George
  21. These are good if your too lazy to build something, different versions too https://www.avaustralia.com.au/ac-infinity-aircom-s6-s7-295mm-wide-dual-120mm-quiet-cooling-fan-system/ Cheers George
  22. Yes it's possible, but it all depends on your amp input impedance load and your source output impedance load Cheers George
