    Replacing tantalums with electrolytics

Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into those solid tantalums. Thanks Ian, I'll go through the schematic tonight, I have it on hand.
  5. Hi all, Wondering if someone could expand on replacing tantalums with electrolytic capacitors within a circuit? From my understanding, tantalums have good qualities such as low ESR and low leakage, but might not sound as good as similar rated electrolytics. Attached below are pictures of my Luxman CL-32 pre-amp, previously serviced with some pretty cheap parts (plan to replace all of them). But also, at some stage the 47uf 16V tantalums in the phono eq stage were replaced with electrolyic caps. Is this a wise decision? Should I replace them all with a quality electrolytic with low ESR and low leakage qualities? Thanks guys. - Chris

    Yamaha NS 2000 Surrounds

Yep, purchased from Yahoo Japan and currently working with an importing company versed in shipping speakers. I should have them here mid-January, I'll update you then what the total cost is plus the overall outcome of buying from auction.

    Yamaha NS 2000 Surrounds

I’m joining in on the quest to find some 13” surrounds to fit my Yamaha NS-2000’s coming from Japan. They seem to be available somewhere in Japan, numerous listings have brand new ones installed. Kenrick Sound used the right surrounds in their customised NS-2000 series, but unfortunately won’t sell them as individual parts (only a pricey in-house install). The search continues, I’m sure somewhere in Japan sells stock.
  9. I own the same Time Out pressing, some of the best sonics I've heard in vinyl to date.

    Weston Acoustics or McChanson amps

I recently owned a McChanson KT88 amplifier for a few months, and it was a great sounding amplifier for the price (around $600-700 secondhand). I haven't owned a Weston Acoustics amp, so I couldn't A/B test. But I would harbour a guess that an equivalent model from Earl Weston, would probably be superior. Mainly due to him winding all the transformers in-house, would assume he would have a tighter handle on quality control and performance? This is only a guess though. But at that price difference, it's not really a fair comparison.

  15. Item: McChanson MarzE KT88 Tube Amp Location: Central Melbourne (+ Ballarat delivery) Price: 600 Item Condition: Excellent, Near New Reason for selling: Upgrading Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: For sale is this wonderful 16W KT88 tube amplifier, built right here in Australia. This was my first taste into tubes, and it's wonderful sound has me hooked to upgrade (to something much more costly). The price-to-performance is brilliant, especially at this bargain price. I've included original sale notes from @Spider27, as it's condition has not changed since February, apart from the EL34's been removed from the sale. (one unfortunately died on me, so the price has been reduced). Currently installed are a pair of Genalex Gold Lion Russian KT 88's, still in fantastic sonic condition. "This is the last McChanson MarzE amp, which has MarzE output transformers which costs many times more than timE transformer based amp. This is one of the top of the range model Eric produced and Eric (producer of McChanson Tube Amps) cannot produce this specific model because he cannot source this beautiful transformers any longer. The chassis has been upgraded to all silver. They are rock solid and heavy. The coupling capacitors are Russian PIO (Paper In Oil) , the attenuator is an ALPS stepped unit, the rectifier is a Mullard 5AR4, plus other upgraded parts inside. It originally cost $1700.. cheaper than cheap Chinese tube amps and it comes with extra tubes for tube rolling. The amp is compatible in using all other 6L6 family tubes : 6L6 (metal), 6L6G, GA, GB and 5881, KT66, KT77, KT88, also EL34. The amp enables you to have tubes rolling fun. In terms of power output, please refer below information from Producer (Eric); It is Single Ended amp, so the power around 8W to 10W for 6L6GC / 300B amps. For KT88 it is around 16 W and a bit less for EL34. But valve amp power "are" louder than SS amp power, it is about 4 to 5 time higher, that means a 10W valve amp is equivalently as loud as a 40 to 50W SS amp." What's Included: + McChanson MarzE Amp with all of upgrades. + a pair of Genalex Gold Lion Russian KT 88 Tubes originally came with the amp (few hours used and still great condition). + a pair of 6550 tubes (good condition) Delivery: Within Ballarat and Central Melbourne I can deliver the amplifier, shipping isn't an option unfortunately.
