  1. Hi all. Looking to upgrade the receiver in my system. Usage is 70% home theatre 30% music. Budget is max $1000. Happy with second hand. Looking for low THD levels. Atmos would be great too but if I have to trade something off I’d rather get a solid older flagship without it. My search so far has turned up the Yamaha RX-A series, Pioneer SC-LX85 and above, Onkyo TX-RZ800/900. Anything else I should be looking at? Current system: Receiver: Pioneer VSX816 Power amp: Crown XLS2000 Floorstanders: VAF DCX Centre: Aaron CC-240 Rears: Denon SC-F107 Subs: SVS NSB12 + Yamaha YST-SW216 TV: Hisense 4K 55" M7000 Thanks in advance
  2. Paging @Baldrick35 He mentioned late last year that he wanted one.
  3. Man that AS3000 is beautiful. GLWS
  4. Thanks Trevor. There are some on sale in the US now for US$1800 a pair which is half the new price of the IIIs. Shipping and insurance kills it for me though. Likely getting some VAF DCX via the classifieds here this weekend ?
  5. Hi all. Looking to upgrade the floorstanders in my system. Usage is 70% home theatre 30% music. Budget is max $2500 for speakers. Can also buy another amp on top of this, prefer to get a cheaper amp (i.e Crown / Class D) as in my not too educated opinion I feel amps date much more quickly than speakers. Current system: Receiver: Yamaha RX-V373 Floorstanders: Yamaha NS-50F Centre: Aaron CC-240 Rears: Denon SC-F107 Subs: SVS NSB12 + Yamaha YST-SW216 TV: Hisense 4K 55" M7000 The room is 5.0l x 4.2w x 3.3h, with a 0.9w x 2.0l bay window on one side. WAF - Should be Jarrah or Cherry veneer. Fronts need to sit in the corners, max 15cm spacing from wall/corner. I've been obsessed with getting the Klipsch RF-7ii for the past month or so, despite having never heard them in person. The idea of having four 10s in the system to get some real HT SPL happening seems very appealing, and I like the stocky look of them. However, even with sales currently going in the US they look like they'll cost closer to $3,500 landed, plus I'm running the risk of damage in transit, international warranty issues and so on. So, local options I'm considering are: Ascension Timberwolf 2103GQTL and 8892SQTL (new) VAF DCX or i66 (likely second hand) Aaron ATS5 (used) I will be able to demo the VAFs soon but the Timberwolves are more difficult given Adelaide Speakers are a manufacturer rather than a showroom. I've contacted Edward and I'm able to demo the single 10" version but not the dual. Perhaps a more challenging factor is also that the 8892SQTL has a ribbon tweeter which I've never heard in person before. As such, if anyone in SA has either of the above I could have a listen to I'd really appreciate it. Beer or wine on offer for your troubles. As for the speakers in general, do you think the Timberwolf 2103GQTL is a reasonable possibility for my setup or will the wall position make it a boomy mess? Obviously it might be a bit of bass overkill to run two subs with the above too but I am a bit of a tragic basshead. Advice appreciated
  6. Thanks Cam. I did end up buying it. It's enormous, I've had to rearrange everything to get it to fit. It's about 6x larger than the Yamaha NS-P60 it replaced. I've got to work out how to bi-wire it to get it running properly but so far the treble seems good. I'd like a pair of Aaron ATS-5, keeping an eye out here in SA for some to pop up.
  7. Hi all Anyone got any experience with this? Been offered it used for ~$150. It will replace a Yamaha NS-P60. Thanks
  8. Hi all I have recently upgraded my sub to an SVS-SB12. I would like to upgrade my floorstanders to match the power / quality. Current set up is: Receiver: Yamaha RX-V373 Floorstanders: Yamaha NS-50F Centre: Yamaha NS-P60 Rears: Denon SC-F107 Second sub: Yamaha YST-SW216 I’d say the system gets used 70% home theatre and 30% music. I’ve been impressed by a friends Dali Concept 8s and am hoping to get those or something similar for around $500 second hand. Are there other similar floorstanders I should be looking for that are similar to the Dalis? I’ve seen a few different pairs around of JBL/Wharfedale etc but they’re often 8 or 4 ohm which puts me off. Thanks
  9. Looking for: 12-15 inch subwoofer, primarily for home theatre, music is secondary. Looking for something with a large bass hit, i.e. 400w+, frequency range including around 20hz e.g. SVS PB / PC 12 or 2000 series. Location: Adelaide, Inner West. Willing to pick up within 45 minutes of CBD. Item condition description: Most important is the performance, no rattles etc. Not too fussed about scratches. Prefer no dents. Price and price conditions: Max $700. Cash or Paypal available.
  10. Hi all I recently bought a Logitech z-5500 set from a friend for my PC and have been pretty impressed. It got me thinking it would be great to get a 'proper' 5.1 set up for the lounge. This would replace our little Denon F-107 system we currently have set up. I'd like to spend a max of around $1k on the whole system, so I understand this puts me in the budget range. The room isn't going to be ideal for a sound stage, the dimensions are 5.0l x 4.2w x 3.3h, with a 0.9w x 2.0l bay window on the right hand side. Plus it has timber floors (with a couple of rugs). As for the receiver it doesn't need to do much other than power the 5.1 speakers so I don't mind getting an older unit. HDMI is a definite plus. My personal preference is for deep bass, hence being impressed by the z-5500s. I'm not an audiophile so as long as the other components are solid quality, I'm happy. I am currently looking at a second hand Yamaha YHT-698AU 5.1 set: http://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio-visual/hometheater-systems/home-theater-package/yht-698au/?mode=model I can pick this up for around $450-500, well under my budget. I am wondering whether I could keep the RX-V373 receiver if I wanted to upgrade components in the future. E.g. replace the sub with a Klipsch 12 inch, for example. Advice much appreciated.
  11. Thansk gcgreg, sounds like you've done well. Are any of your speakers timber veneer or all black?

I am generally a pretty patient guy when it comes to these things so happy to wait and get individual components as bargains come along. Advice much appreciated.
