  1. Further Information: Brand new Tonewinner 7 channel power amp. Purchased from Selby earlier this year but never used. The asking price is 10% less than the already attractive price of a new unit, which was recently reduced by $500 (lucky me). If you're not familiar with Tonewinner, they are an OEM for other better-known brands such as Emotiva. In fact, this amplifier is internally identical to the much more expensive Emotiva XPA-7 Gen3. I used to own an XPA-5 Gen3 and the build quality of the Tonewinner is actually superior. It also has a nifty VU meter if that's your thing (which can be turned off if it isn't). Selling due to obtaining a different amp that I've been eyeing off for a long time. Absolutely no issues (it's new) and Selby invoice will be provided for warranty. Pickup from Vermont, VIC. I have the original double-box so can ship, but it will be pricey as it weighs a tonne. Stock images below plus the actual unit packed away in its box.
  2. Is the amplifier assignment more flexible than the 720? Specifically, can you use it to power 4x Atmos channels and external amplification for the mains? Frustratingly, my old Yamaha could do this but the 720 cannot. I'd strongly consider this if so.
  3. Thanks guys, that's exactly what I wanted to hear. SUB 1 it is!
  4. Hey knowledgeable peeps, I'm on the hunt for a new sub to complement a Paradigm Studio 100-based HT setup. Two options that have presented themselves to me are an old Sig SUB 1 or a new Prestige 1000SW for similar money. The SUB 1 was obviously a much more pricey sub when new and was a monster at the time, but does anyone know how it compares to modern subs like the 1000SW? Obviously 6 x 8" drivers and a higher wattage amp compared to a single 12" driver would suggest the SUB 1 should comfortably win, but I've been told that the newer amplifier tech in the 1000SW is miles ahead of my old Studio SUB 15, which was the same generation as the SUB 1. I've always lusted after a SUB 1 so I'm inclined to go with it, but the 1000SW is also a safer purchase with full warranty, etc. Any thoughts and comments are welcome! Many thanks in advance.
  5. Further information: Replacement lamp assembly (not just bulb) for a range of JVC projectors. Compatible models include (but not limited to) DLA-X5000, DLA-X7000, DLA-X9000, DLA-X5500, DLA-X7500, DLA-X9500 and a bunch of older models. Genuine Australian stock, purchased with my DLA-X7500 but was never required. Projector has since been sold. Item is new in box, removed only to take the below photo. Pickup preferred from Carnegie as the item is fragile, but happy to post at buyer's cost and risk. 6. Further information: These are excellent sounding speakers with built-in amplifiers so no external amplification is required. They accept both RCA and XLR in inputs and were used with a PT-100 pre-amp, which is also for sale (see other listing). Not sure how old these are, but they are no longer current. Very punchy for their size as they contain 2x power amps per speaker. Condition is very good, just a few little scuffs here and there. No damage to drivers. Pickup from Carnegie or shipping at cost. 8. Further information: 2m (190cm not including plugs) with US plug and IEC C15 connector. Asking price includes free shipping. Also selling 1m (see other post). Purchased from another SNA member a few years ago but never got around to using them. Apparently excellent cables but I've never been one to notice any difference with power cables. I'd like to move them onto a new home where they can be better appreciated. 10. Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up fixing them myself:
  11. I'd love these as surrounds but they'd be worth more than my fronts! How would they match with Studio v5s?
  12. Just an update for anyone interested or who might be having similar issues. Today I completely removed the crossover and it turned out the one of the lower binding posts was not properly soldered to it. The behaviour described above was due to the weight of the speaker cable applying downward pressure to the post and breaking the circuit. Somehow, when only the lower posts were connected, it worked consistently (still haven't quite worked that part out yet). In any case, this is now fixed and I hope it may help someone else. A multimeter was very helpful.
  13. Hi all, My CC-690 recently started sounding awful (tinny/vibration), and with the current travel restrictions, I thought I'd open it up and have a look. I couldn't see anything obviously wrong, so I just re-seated the mechanical connections at the drivers and crossovers. In testing, I came across the following odd behaviour: - With only the upper range (top binding posts) connected, the tweeter/midrange assembly works as expected (woofers silent) - With only the lower range (bottom binding posts) connected, the 4 woofers work as expected (tweeter assembly silent) - When both sets of binding posts are connected (using either bi-wire cables or the supplied links), only the tweeter assembly works (woofers are silent) I can't understand how this is possible as the top binding posts appear to be wired directly to the tweeter assembly's crossover and the bottom posts to the main crossover (which directly drives the 4 woofers). In this photo, the purple/black pair of wires go directly to the tweeter's crossover: If anyone with more knowledge of speaker design could help me to understand what's going on (and ultimately, to fix the speaker!), that would be fantastic. This is doing my head in! Thanking you all in advance.
  14. Thanks for that, the guy I spoke to at AA suggested a repairer, but said he didn't think it would be a crossover issue. In any case, I called the repairer and he was booked out for several weeks. Given the travel restrictions, I thought I'd open it up and have a look myself and found some odd (to me) behaviour. I'll start another post since this will be off topic.
  15. Thanks for the suggestion. I was bi-wiring them and suspected it may be an issue with the cable, so I attached the connectors and used a single cable from another channel (that was working fine), but the issue remains.
  16. Hi all, I have a Paradigm Studio v5 setup and unfortunately by CC-690 (centre) seems to have died. The sound is very course/tinny across all frequencies, so I suspect it's the crossover. I've never had a speaker require repair before so I have no idea where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations for a trustworthy repairer in Melbourne? Preferably southeastern suburbs but I'm happy to travel if required. Thanks in advance!
  17. Hi OP, I sent you a PM yesterday, would like to check this out today if possible. Thanks.
  18. I'd be all over this if it were in Melbourne... Fantastic TV that would still wipe the floor with current LCDs.
  19. How are the black levels on this compared to a JVC? I've never considered DLP but this looks like a good unit.
  20. Can this be used to drive 4 ceiling speakers with external amplification for the ear level channels? I can only see one pair of binding posts for height.
