  6. Hi Raiden, Good to hear you're having a good experience with it. I'm running an all Rega system, the components I have are all on the bright side, so I guess it has a cumulative effect. I've listened to the Arcam amps, they've got some great depth and refinement for the price, perhaps I'll upgrade my amplification and speakers in the future and give it another try. For now, I've replaced the Orto Blue with a Shure M97xe and I'm getting a more satisfying sound. RP6 Brio-R ELA 2000 Floorstanders
  7. Item: Ortofon Blue 2M Cart/Stylus (about 150 hours use) Location: Northern Beaches, Sydney, NSW Price: SWAP for Grado Prestige Silver1/Gold1 Cart with equivalent usage Item Condition: Appx. 150 hrs use, otherwise as new Reason for selling: I've found that the Ortofon is somewhat too up front/detailed, and doesn't match well with my system or musical taste. It's great for Jazz, super fast, super detailed and maintains awesome clarity in the bottom end. However, I'm looking to try a warmer, more musical cart. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Pictures: I can take some high res pictures if required, however will wait to see if anyone is interested first.
  8. Item: The Jezebels - The Brink (Vinyl) Location: Manly, NSW Price: Donation to SNA Item Condition: New Reason for selling: After a couple listens I've decided this LP has no business being in my collection. Apart from not warming to the album, I don't think it was mastered particularly well for vinyl, so to me it just sounds like noise. But perhaps you'll have a better experience, or a system that can better handle it. Payment Method: Pickup Only from Manly, NSW (will not post sorry, too much hassle for a free item). Extra Info: Pictures:
  9. You're right, certainly a very average or poor audio source will sound crappy on a high end system because you will hear more of the faults that would otherwise be masked by a lower resolution system. I think its akin to watching low budget High Def movies, you might start noticing the nasty make-up jobs, fake props and painted backdrops.
  10. Thats a spare pair of Audio Space 12AX7s They're from my Galaxy Mini Amp http://www.audio-space.com/product/integrated-amplifier/mini-galaxy-1-mini-tube-amp/
  11. Item: Spiked Speaker Stands (Pair) Location: Manly, NSW Price: Free Payment Method: Pickup only Item Condition: Slight corrosion Reason for selling: Got some floor standers Extra Info: These are heavy steel, or cast stands, I believe the columns are filled with sand. They weigh about 10kg a piece. Would suit mid size book shelf speakers. Approximately 74cm tall.
  12. Item: Castle ISIS + Spare Parts Location: Manly, NSW Price: $100 or make an offer Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Item Condition: Cosmetically Good, Some Speaker Damage Reason for selling: No longer needed Extra Info: These speakers sound magnificent, but need some attention. Fix them up, or use them for parts. * The cone on the right driver has long crack in it. It still works and I can't discern any sonic difference. There is brand new spare woofer that can be used as a replacement that comes with the sale. * The cone on the left driver has a tiny crack in it that I've glued to stop it developing any further. * A spare tweeter is also supplied, though is not needed as the tweeters are still great. I'm getting new speakers, so no longer have the passion to fix these. 14. Thanks for the replies guys, Willco, thanks for the recommendation. s2020, thanks for your comments. All unicorn jazz aside, I can hear distinct differences between different speaker cables on my system, and I'm not talking super wallet burners here either, some chinese cable vs some cheaper monster cable, so I'm interested in peoples experience with optical. Theory is theory, experience is experience. gcgreg, thanks for the heads up, the Air doesn't have optical (bummer), the Pro does (yay for me). Anyone else with any experience to share?
  15. I'm looking to run a toslink cable from my Macbook pro to my Rega DAC. I'm listening to 16Bit 44.1KHz ALAC files, ripped from my CD collection. I don't have any higher resolution stuff, and I'm not necessarily interested in obtaining it, as I've already amassed a reasonable amount of music at 16/41.1. Has anyone had experience listening different optical cables, and, can you recommend a good brand that would suit the setup. I'm looking at up to a $100 spend. I'm not after opinions on optical vs coax vs usb etc, as I intend to use optical for the time being. Thanks, Peter.
  16. Hey Josh, I recently bought an RP3 with the Ortofon Blue 2M on advice from my old man. Subsequently, I scored a Tom Jones - Live in Las Vegas LP for $3 at a charity store. It's like the music leaps out of the speakers and engages you more than its digital equivalent (my experience anyway). On the RP3 vs RP6, my old man owned the RP3, then traded up to an RP6, says he would wouldn't be sad if he had to go back to the RP3. One thing I've found about LPs, obvious really, is that I don't purchase 'just average albums', I have to want to listen to 90% of the songs on an album because skipping songs isn't really an option in my opinion. So most of what I would listen to digitally doesn't make the cut because its on an album with half a dozen b-side filler tracks. The RP3 is very good. That's my 2¢
  17. Looking for a Rega DAC or DAC-R in black color. I'm in Sydney, so the more local the better. Update: Found one, thanks!
