  1. Thanks elmura for the clarification. I have always used these with balanced cables so did not know they were wired to accept rca. Really extends the possibilities for pre/pros, could even use a avr or direct out from an OPPO...
  2. Further information: Awesome high-quality fully active 5-channel speaker package. Designed and built by a small Perth company run by a dutch-born designer. The designer subsequently moved back to Europe and is currently making some very high-end active crossovers/amplifiers. I did have a bunch of information on him but have lost the links. From my understanding of the design, these speakers employ active crossovers and a single channel of amplification per driver, which amounts to 13 amplifier channels! I think the two bass drivers in the center channel use one amp. Amplifiers/Crossovers as marked Mass Technologies. These are very well built and capable speakers, using Scan Speak and Dynaudio drivers from what I can recognize. Very nice finish and SOLID cabinetry. Mains, 4-way, model 3-8/12 Center model C3-7 Surround, 2-way, model SRS 2-5 Each speaker has a kettle plug input for power and a balanced XLR for signal (no rcas). Surrounds come with their wired stands and there is a small riser for the center. These speakers can easily pull dual duty as a HT system and a critical 2-ch hifi listening set-up. If anything, in my opinion, these have more of an audiophile "flavour" to them, but can seriously pull their weight for movie watching and with the 12-inch drivers do not lack bass even when run without a sub. I have swapped these in and out of my HT system multipel times and it was a toss up of which to keep. It came down to the fact that I am more movie centric at the moment and can't bear to give up my amps. Would keep both but something has to go. The mains work very nicely for music paired to a DAC/Pre, I used a LHLabs Geek pulse X with very good results which I will likely sell if these sell. Got to love the simplicity of a fully active system, all you need for this is a balanced AV pre/pro. The speakers are in very good condition with some very small marks/chips in the mirror finish that are not readily visible at a short distance away. The tweeters on teh mains have some small dimples (does not affect the sound) and the one power switch on the mains is stuck to "on". My only gripe withthe speakers is that there is a small "pop" on power on/off for the surrounds, both surrounds are the exact same so likely something in the design, it is not present in the mains or center. From what I know these sold for about 12-15K for the set when new. I know these are a fairly rare/unknown speaker so a bit hard to compare, but cannot fault the build/quality/sound. Open to offers/trades, but I am trying to reduce my gear at the moment. Local pick-up only for now, as these are not standard rectangular box speakers they will not be easy to pack, but it is possible if no local interest. 3. I keep meaning to put this in the ad but forget. They are passive, the switch on the back is for a 2db high frequency boost.
  4. Further information: I have for sale a pair of beautiful Escalante Design Pinyons in bamboo. Never thought I'd sell them, but due to my current residence I don't have the room to dedicate to a 2ch hifi setup and I just haven't been listening to them. Let someone else enjoy them now. A patented design by Tierry Budge (spelt it wrong last time) previously Manager of R&D at Wilson Audio and then with Talon Acoustics before creating Escalante Designs. It uses two 6.5" drivers, one front facing and one internal, paired with a scan speak ring radiator. The patent comes in the internal design and pairing of the two bass drivers. Good bit of history in this article: http://stereotimes.com/speak030805.shtml Very forward and detailed sound with a huge soundstage when set-up properly. Good bass extension and are fine on their own but can really shine with a sub if in a larger room. Good to very good condition, some small marks on them as shown in pictures. They travelled half-way around the world with me. Very rare and possibly the only pair in Australia. Retailed @7000USD and would have been 10k plus here. Will include stands pictured for local pickup. Open to trades, partial or full. The white tabs seen on the base in the pics are no-damage Velcro strips to secure to another set of stands and can be easily removed. Also note these do come with grills, I just forgot to add a picture of them. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved. 5. Hi, sorry I wasn't ignoring you I answered in the reply above your question.
  6. Thanks Willco, I also thought it had an 'h' in it but everything I have seen is without https://patents.justia.com/inventor/tierry-r-budge
  7. Cheers Pasic, no they are passive, the switch on the back is a 2db high-frequency boost for room compensation/personal preference

  10. Further information: I have a single Tannoy System 15 DMT II that I have been using as a center channel for a number of years. Good condition, a couple of small dents in the mdf edging and a scratch as can be seen in pics. Driver is in excellent condition. Amazing Tannoy sound, just looking for something that pairs a little better with my system. Looking to sell it, or interesting in buying one to pair it up with. I think the askng price is fair and it is what I am offering if someone has one they want to sell. Offers of trades welcomed. 11. Hi all, looking for a little advice. I am building a full marty sub and have a question about driver placement on the baffle. It seems some place the driver in the middle of the baffle where some place the driver in the middle of the speaker, i.e. slightly lower then the center of the baffle due to the port. EIther way it is aligned essentially to the port inlet which from what I've read isn't optimal. My question is does it really matter? I haven't been able to find a definitive answer. For aesthetic reasons, and using a 2/5 3/5 split, I wanted to place the driver higher but seems the weight higher in the cabinet is not a good idea and it puts most of the driver right infront of the port inlet. 2/5 3/5 placed lower in the cabinet keeps most of the driver below the port inlet but in the shallow part of the cabinet. Am I over thinking it? Just trying to figure out what tradeofs there are.
  12. Item: SOLD Proac Tablette Super Extended Bass Tablette (EBT) Location: Perth Price: $$old Item Condition: Fair to good Reason for selling: Surplus too needs, too many speakers and projects Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These are in decent shape but could use some TLC/touch-up. These speakers sound incredible for there size and bass and imaging are top-notch especially from such a compact speaker. Most of the markings are just chips in the paint and on the back, I wanted to refinish them but do not have the time and thought I should post them warts-in so people know what they are getting. Couple small tears in the grill cloths and one bump on the bottom ~5-7 mm as seen in photos. The tweeters have been replaced with new Scanspeak D2008/8512 ($220 from Wagner) which are the ferrofluid version of the D2008 and a replacement for the original tweeters. Just so there is no confusion, as one member on SNA mentioned that he replaced with Vifa tweeters in another ad, I have attached a picture of the original tweeters marked "D2008" by Scanspeak. Not saying the other member is wrong, they might have had different tweeters in the EBT, but these ones originally had the SS D2008. Pick-up in Perth only at this stage, but let me know if you are interested. Possibly interested in trades +/- cash for a balanced USB DAC Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
