  1. I’ve started using my Xbox OneS for DVD and Blu Ray watching and find there’s a lot of jitter in the video which is disappointing. The internet suggests there’s a few fixes which I’m yet to try. I have a 12 year old LCD so no 4K and disappointed it’s not smooth out-of-the-box and have to fiddle with it to get a watchable picture. Haven’t thrown out the Sony Blu Ray player yet. Was hoping the Xbox would be an all-in-one solution.

  2. Hi All. I moved from Sydney to Canberra yesterday and today I tried to re-tune my Geneva Model S DAB radio. However it hasn't picked up any digital stations.

Is there some incompatibility with my radio and what's available in Canberra?

    It worked fine in Sydney.

Assume digital radio is still available in Canberra??

    Thanks.

  3. Thanks Al. I'm hanging. Might even get inspired to try to call customer "service" again tonight to get the modem replaced - which I'm sure is the problem. The Optus tech who came out a few months ago said to me he wasn't sure why he was there - he said there's nothing he could do to help and that one customer had 3 faulty modems before they got one that was ok. In my case I don't think it's an nbn problem but an ISP problem. Sigh.....

  4. I've had a non-working NBN service since Christmas. Sick the eye teeth of calling optus customer service. They keep telling me they have to book an Optus or NBN tech to come out and I have to be home - which I can't do as I work. I've had both techs out in the past and they've said there's no problem with the line. I've had 2 Optus nbn modems and both have problems. I don't want them to send me a third as they dispatch by courier only and as I can't wait home all day for a courier, makes it a PITA to get a modem. Last 2 I've had to deal with Toll to arrange pickup at a local depot on a weekend - far from convenient.

So, my current modem doesn't connect at all. Optus say it's working and the faulty must be with the line - which it's not. So I'm using an old DSL modem which seems to work fine and have abandoned the NBN modem. I can't bring myself to call them again and have another argument and go round and round and around in circles....

  5. Toe them in mate. Those speakers, that distance. I would prefer to just see the inside (or less) of both speakers inner sides.
Ohh and the left speaker seems to be further away from the wall then the right.

They're both the same distance from the wall - optical illusion as the downlight above the right speaker is out and it's a bit darker over there.

I'll give them a bit of extra toe in - thanks for the suggestion. I'll see how it goes.

Can I ask - if you've got PM1s too, how do you maintain the rubberised coating on top? I just dust with a damp cloth but it's starting to feel a little tacky. I might send a note to B&W to ask for advice too. Speakers are never in direct sunlight.

  6. Ben Folds Five - closely followed by Ben Folds solo efforts after the band disbanded.

However, I'm a bit of a Ben Folds fanboi so it's not terribly surprising.

2nd place goes to Radiohead. Found them via OK Computer and Amnesiac when I was working in Brasil in early 2000's.

  7. I have an RA12. How can I check this for you?

......hold on - does this help? I run pre-puts from the RA12 to a Rotel power amp. The volume control on the RA12 works to vary the volume through the power amp. I assume this means they are variable?

  8. Where's the best place (online please) to buy good quality inner and outer record sleeves. There's many different ones out there but I don't want to learn by trial and error.

Don't want to spend a fortune - just after good quality, well priced sleeves and hoping to get advice from those who have gone through this before.

  9. Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

I've printed out the Stevenson protractor and the cartridge was a bit skewif at the inner point. It's a bit fiddly trying to get it aligned at both points - I need skinnier fingers and a steadier hand!

Seems to have made a little difference but I'm not satisfied that I've got it 100% so l'll do some more fiddling.

A new stylus looks reasonably cost effective so might look into that as well.

  11. There are only really two good stylus for these cartridges.
    1) The original Shure elliptical stylus.
    2) A Jico SAS.

I found that any aftermarket cheap shure stylus gives some form of IGD.
It is possible you do have an original Shure, but is it elliptical or spherical? And how do you know if its worn or not? - IGD can be one symptom of wear.
My bet is on a worn stylus.

I recommed replacing the entire cartridge with a Grado Green. Similar sound to Shure - but its new and has a genuine stylus.

Not sure to any of the above being a 2nd hand unit. But, I'll try realigning first and if no luck, will check out the options to replace the stylus or cart as you suggested. Thanks.
