  2. So i searched the web trying to find the best way to set up a subwoofer with a variable phase dial for a 2 channel system as i was having difficulties, when i stumbled accross this and thought it might interest people. Pretty easy and makes sense really. i got the same results set to 140 and they are perfectly in sync and sounds the best i have heard my set up its amazing. If anyone else has any worthwhile hacks i would love to here them. Also curious as quite new to subwoofers why all subs dont have a variable phase? He used this audio cd to find the frequency he needed https://www.amazon.com/Sheffield-A2TnB-Test-Disc-My/dp/B000V93NKY I just used this one and selected the range i wanted to use This is a quote straight from the post. Most subwoofer users understand the need for a continuously variable phase control to help greatly with the setup and integration with the main speakers. (FYI setting crossover and levels is easier to do and should be done first) . In the past I have used room measurements to set the phase control- rotate the knob until the response is flattest- with decent success. More recently I used the concept of "timing" the subwoofer and main speakers by playing a track with constant beats- then rotating the phase control until it sounds synchronized or strongest. This worked well but seems to work better with limited range monitor speakers and not so well with fuller range towers. Many sites suggest that you "adjust until the bass sounds loudest" . This isn't the best idea because you could be adjusting such that you are creating a summed peak in the response. Having just added (2) subs to my system I recalled my mobile audio days as to how to best set the phase of the subwoofers. Here is what I did (two subwoofers). You can use the same method with a single sub as well. 1) Reverse the leads of the main speakers so that (+) goes to (-) and vice versa. 2) Shift balance to that side (e.g. right speaker, right sub) 3) Use a demo disk (see below) and play the test tone that corresponds to your crossover frequency. In my case the frequency is 63Hz. 4) Rotate the phase control gradually until the tone is as silent as possible at your listening position. The main will be out of phase with the sub and the two will cancel each other. I did this with the right sub/speaker set and the 63Hz tone became silent between 120 -degrees and 160 -degrees on the app / dial. I set it to 14o degrees, dead even between the two. For the left speaker and sub the 63Hz tone became silent at 180-degrees. 5) Reverse the leads back to normal on the main speakers- and WOW! A completely integrated and sweet sounding speaker system! The bass became smooth, continuous, warm and effortless. Punches are completely in sync and powerful without effort, sustained notes are smooth and decay so naturally. There are no signs of separation between subs and mains. They act as "one" more than I have ever heard. By far the best method i have ever used to integrate a subwoofer.

  5. Further information: Abrahamsen v2.0 up for sale in like new condition around 1 year old. This thing is a beast for its 70w into ohms and 140 into 4 ohms , ht passthrough. sounds amazing, well built. the remote is next level solid. I am upgrading to the v30 and 2 v40s so selling this one. They are hard to get into the country and the shipping and tax is a huge expense. Internal and rear photos are of the net because i didnt want to open it up or pull it out cause its a big job. The V20 UP is a redesign of the V20 Integrated Amplifier. Doubling of electrolytes in power supply(Noticeable sonic improvement). Changing the emitter resistor card for higher class A operation and greater linjeritet. New improved display, light blue background with dark blue lettering, significantly better readability. New "Upgrade" sign on the top lid. New remote control receiver(significantly better reception). Improved user software. V20 can be upgraded to V20 UP.Specifications2 x 70 watt in 8 ohm | Ring core -transformer | Signal/noise: >100 dB | THD: 0,005 % | Frequency response: 0-70.000 Hz +/-3 dB | 2 x140 watt in 4 ohm | 3 Line inputs (RCA) | 1 Balanced (XLR) input | Tape output (RCA) | Protection circuit | Digital volume control | LCD-display | Remote control |DimensionWidth:43Cm -Depth:32Cm -Height:10.5Cm -Weight:16Kg Some reviews https://forums.whathifi.com/threads/official-abrahamsen-v2-0up-amplifier-review-in-hifiwigwam.96917/ https://www.iqspeakers.co.uk/abrahamsen-v20-reviews A write up from the company In 1972 Dr. Otala and Dr. Lohstroh finished their work in analysing transistor amplifiers to determine what actully created the "transistor sound" in general transistorised designs. The results of their innovative design work were incorporated in the legendary 25 watt amplifier. This product was the first commercial transistor amplifier to use this new design approach, and the amplifier was immediately recognised as dramatically more musical sounding than any other transistor amplifier. The same design philosophy, has been constantly updated by additional research and development. After the 25 watt amplifier had established a new standard for transistor amplifiers, research was undertaken to find ways to make the amplifier even better, and to extend its highly musical sound quality to more powerful amplifier designs. This philosophy forms the basis of the new Abrahamsen design. Abrahamsen maintains an extensive set of internal controls to ensure that products are designed, manufactured and supported to the highest standards. A dedicated staff of incoming, intermediate and finished product quality inspectors and auditors ensures that Abrahamsen's products are manufactured to exact specifications. Our Work Process EXPLORE In our research of what separates the great designers from good designers, we saw that the great designers spent a lot more time trying to understand the problem. They really dove in deep, focusing on all the aspects of how their design would be used. DESIGN Design is sometimes thought to be about form, style, and how things look, but it’s also very much about function, or what something does. With new technologies making it possible to develop new functions, this is now more true than ever. PRODUCTION A dedicated staff of incoming, intermediate and finished product quality inspectors and auditors ensures that Abrahamsen's products are manufactured to exact specifications. We have chosen to work with only a few suppliers that share our commitment to high quality. DELIVER Abrahamsen maintains an extensive set of internal controls to ensure that products are designed, manufactured and supported to the highest standards. This way we are in control of the entire production process ensuring the highest quality every step of the way. We strongly believe that uncompromising quality is not an option - it's an obligation.
