  1. Clever fellows aren’t they. Must cruise the suburbs checking for takeaway treats in the local backyards. Lucky the nets work a treat stopping them.
  2. Welcome Oter. Hopefully someone will point you in the right direction for boombox repairs. Might get a better response if you open a thread in General hifi asking for a repairer. No doubt you will want someone who knows their way around tape decks. Very cool to have a boombox, the bigger and rarer the better. They will only become more valuable as time goes by if working and in excellent cosmetic condition.
  3. OK I will have a go at translating. Welcome Stromstad is a very nice city SNA is a good place to buy a bra or a medium size lemur.

  9. Personally if I had a 20 k budget I would be investing some of that in visiting every dealer I could. A return flight or weekend in Sydney is peanuts compared to this type of budget. I would also be attending every GTG I could and visiting every SNA member who would have me over. I would not be aiming to keep my present amplifier, trade it with the dealer or sell it privately. Add it’s value to your budget. If you must retain your present amplifier then IMHO it is imperative you hear it with your chosen speakers , a good amp and a good set of speakers are not always a perfect marriage, they must compliment each other , hide their weaknesses and highlight their strengths. Then I would be pre arranging with each dealer to show me the best sound they can produce from an amp and speakers or active speakers at or below my budget. Systems live and die on synergy. Dealers have the opportunity to link every amp in the store to every set of speakers to find the magic combinations. At least they do if they are good at their job. Chances are you will find a combination that is nothing like what you originally planned. Even better one or both components might have been traded enabling you to jump a rung or two up the ladder. With the crazy low prices on used gear mistakes at this level can cost eye watering amounts of cash. If looking to buy second hand this is where SNA is so helpful. Hear as many members systems as possible to be sure you have the right sound for you. Then with a little patience or a WTB add you can let someone else endure the pain of rapid depreciation.
  10. I thought you were a purely valve man. Can’t believe your wife bought Solid State ice cubes. I think you need ice tubes instead.
  11. I find it fascinating how iconic certain images become. If it were you, me and a couple of locals crossing the road it would just be a snap shot and not a work of art. No one would care if some bloke called Paul was alive or not! I wonder what the rego from the Beetle is worth now? For the ultimate Beetles collector a Bug (A beetle no less!) with that rego plate would be the Q mobile with the most. If you own a Beetle you may be able to get a set of personalised plates in Australia with that rego. If the Alfa in the series of photos of the empty crossing had stayed parked there it would be the car everyone talked about. I wonder if they realised there was a 5th Beetle in the photo at the time?
  12. Album covers can make an artistic statement beyond what lies in the grooves. Of course there are the most revered ones, Joy Division ,Floyd, Velvet Underground. Show us three of your favourites and tell us why they work for you. Roxy Music, Avalon. Romantic, adventurous ,solitary. Hot Chocolate’s Greatest Hits. Sexy, cool and I think a political statement with so few elements. Venus and Mars, Wings. Minimalism at it’s best. Personally it should simply be the two balls with no title. Two unrelated objects that name the album perfectly.
  13. Another possibility is Dr Rod at Legend speakers, pretty sure he was an engineer at Linn.
  14. Their home theatre set up would be even better. Schiit a bunch of Krix Brix
  15. For the home theatre set up. Complete bunch of Krix
  16. I have to net our fish pond. Kookaburras seem to have a taste for goldfish, after all they are Kingfishers, even though they usually prefer reptiles. They seem to steal them more often in winter, probably due to a lack of lizard snacks. Always the same routine, pond pump upside down, everyone missing except a terrified survivor and a happy fat bird sitting in the tree.
  17. That is interesting. Always thought the push pull were chrome and the PSE gold. Maybe that was the default colouring but you could choose a specific finish if desired. I think the gold colour works a treat, they just look classy. Usually I would avoid a gold finish like the plague but Audion really kicked a goal with the original look. The new look is far beefier, more masculine but less elegant in my opinion. Looks better in the flesh than the photos though I have found.
  18. I’m hearing you Analysis, given the choice they would stay here. Just the unfortunate reality of economics, if I want a suitable amp for my current set up they have to go. Always better to see components being used and loved than sitting idle. Are you running the PSE or push pull?
  19. Great band from the golden era of Australian pub rock. A life well lived.
  20. There was also talk of Almarro building 6C33C Monoblocks that looked even better. Not sure if they ever went into production.
  21. Almarro A318B. Not sure if they are still in production but we’re insanely cheap for what they were and beautifully constructed. Lovely piece of gear and sold locally by Audiophile in Melbourne so there should be a few floating about.
  22. Cheers Sergio. For prospective buyers, these are not slow romantic amplifiers, they are fast, rhythmically correct, full and in the right system provide correct depth perspective. Will work with lots of speakers where 8Watts of SET just doesn’t cut it. Drive 8 Ohm Yamaha NS1000s easily.
  23. Thanks mate. Lots of quality gear not selling at crazy low prices so keeping the temptation level high. Wonderful amplifiers with the right partner.
  24. Item: Audion Silver Night Push Pull 300B Monoblocks Location: Adelaide Price: $2,500 + p&h Local sale preferred. Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Financing a big momma amplifier Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Selling my beloved Audions. Early original chassis design. Push Pull 300B Monoblocks. 20 Watts. 8, 4 and 2 Ohm taps. Chrome fascia in very good condition, some light polishing scratching but no dings Running 4 x PsVane Tii 300Bs. (3 y.o. Quad matched set cost $1,100) Sylvania 5687 drivers and Russian 6922/6Dj8 input valves Differ from the PSE versions, chrome rather than gold fascia, 20 v 18 Watts. Not as pure as the PSE but punchier . Extremely quiet, no hums , crackles etc. In perfect running order. Side Inputs. Best suited to speakers without wildly swinging impedance 90dB or above. Changing the input valve to the myriad of 6dj8/6922 alternatives has a huge impact on presentation. Passive pots so can be used without a preamp for single source system but better with a quality pre. Any freebies? Sure, I will throw in a quad of JJ 300Bs (used but fully operational) A pair of good used 5687s and a new pair Sylvania gold pin 6922s. Plus my high tech plinths, a chunk of wood with high density rubber and some feet stuck on. Anyone been messing with them? Previous owner had protection added to save amps from dead short at the speaker, amps are safe, speakers are safe due to transformers. Input moved to side. Serious Local buyers welcome to wheel their speakers over to demo if desired. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
  25. Good grief, you practically have to give stuff away and still can’t get a sale! Remote control, full valve power supply, perfect exterior. If you are looking to venture into a valve pre amp I can’t imagine how you can do better at the price. Their valve and solid state amplifiers get extremely positive reviews and beautifully built. Somebody hide the keys to the Ute!
