  2. Correct. And the se has that fabulous little gold plaque on the front. Painted mine with daughter's black nail polish. I too traded dp777 that did have quad core upgrade to the se. Not sure what did it but equally detailed but richer sound. I have very accurate speakers and the se was an improvement definitely. I tried many dacs a few years back at this price and below. This was noticeably the best for detail, tone and absence of harshness that some had. Sent from my SM-A9000 using Tapatalk

  4. Hi gypr Interesting thread. I have the AMR DP777, recently upgraded to the SE. I also run the gemini cable. But here is where it gets way different. Unlike the supposed warm harbeths i have a set of Focal SM9 active monitors. These are supposed to be one of the most accurate speakers you can get. Across the system the soundstage and detail is incredible, bass fantastic also for the speaker cabinet size - probably due to the 8" woofer and 11" passive radiator they manage to squeeze in to the relatively small box. Speaker has the Focal Be tweeter. I can find it excessively bright especially on poorly recorded material. I complained to Cam - he blames the speakers. I was researching the other day and was reminded that the AMR xlr output is unbalanced. I had inadvertently been using both balanced and unbalance cables. There is also a switch for unbalanced signals on my speakers which gives another 10db of gain (not sure if anything else). The changes between all scenarios were immense. Lost all brightness with the switch setting and cable unbalanced - but also some of the magic. Not sure if any of this helps. Have been looking at speaker upgrades eg Zu Druid but found I lost so much or anything that allows me to go a tube triode power amp . Had briefly considered tube pre but AMR is tube and supposed to be warm. Maybe that is true but if we share the same impedance mismatch then maybe that is of no consideration. Have you done anything on the pre side?
  5. Thanks Ian. I think you are spot on. The naim folk are very particular and rightfully so with old gear. I have all the paperwork but it has not been serviced recently. Maybe the teddy on sna and i know len wallis would be eager to trade in the naim based on past conversations. Only problem is that I would have to find something of value there..... I am in the market for speakers but their range at the moment is either very expensive or not to my liking. Pete
  6. hi guys Interesting chat. I have an 72 and 140 combo. I have upgraded with the avondale 821A boards and have the teddy ps which was a real eye opener to the benefits of a good and separate ps. I have always kept them as a backup as I have a dac with a good pre and active speakers. I havent used them for a few years now. Do you know what the whole lot is worth on sna? Pete
  7. hi how old is it? just recently purchased new?
  8. Item: Squeezebox Duet Network Player Location: Greenwich Sydney Price: $280 Item Condition: New Reason for selling: No longer required. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Bought this as a backup in case anything went wrong with the Duet I was using. Still in box unopened. I used this without a dac for a while then added a dac which improved the sound. I have now moved on to a dedicated music server in my main listening area which I connect via USB so no need for this now. Shame Logitech got out of this game. They were streets ahead at a great price point. Pictures:
  9. Please don't forget to check the Classifieds Guidelines before posting this classified ad. You many delete this text from your advertisement. Item: Cambridge Audio DacMagic Black Location: Greenwich, Sydney, NSW Price: $200 Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: No longer used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal Extra Info: Original owner, purchased from Eastwood Hifi $699 in the day. Still have the manual. Original walmart, there are options to upgrade this that may be well worthwhile. Pickup preferred but can post at buyers expense if required. I have "invested' in a new DAC so this is now surplus to requirements. Pictures:
  10. Agree, these are great speakers. Very good value at rrp and can be driven directly from a good dac with pre-amp/volume control eg the nad for a great system under $5k. I have the SM9s - yes they are double the price but I didn't find anything close at the same price for what I was looking for in a speaker. Very happy, good luck.
  11. Hoping to learn, share and maybe upgrade....
