  1. Hi all, I am having an issue with trying to get headphones to work with my system.I know the headphones aren't the issue as I have tried several sets.

The gear I have consists of a Parasound P3 preamp, Emotiva UPA-2 power amp, PS Audio digital link 111 DAC, Sony DVP-S9000ES SACS/CD player and ACER laptop.

The drama being when I plug headphonea into the Parasound P3 phones jack I can hear barely Audible music coming throught them yet the music still playing through the speakers. There is no headphone jack in DAC.

Do I need to purchase a seperate headphone amp?

    Any insight would be great.

  2. Hi Mike

The "should I buy a new cart/ which cart should I buy" question comes up a lot on SNA. The answer comes down to:

    1. Price. How much do you want to spend?

    2. The arm on the table (low, medium, high mass arm). Determines whether your arm can accommodate the cartridge you are interested in.

    3. Your listening preferences. What style/s of music you like, as some carts are more suited to different styles of music.

You should probably start a new thread.

You should probably also have a look and listen to the Nag on the Denon before deciding whether you actually need a new cart. Did the seller indicate age and condition of the cartridge in the listing?

I'm just down the road in Mordialloc, so if you need any set-up tips/assistance, I'm not far away. I also have a 60x magnifier so you can have a good look at the stylus and see what condition it is in.

do you think its worth investing in a phonostage for it? or just play it through the vintage marantz 1070 or kenwood KA-7002?

  3. Thanks for the replies guy. Is the KA-7002 a half decent amp and worth fixing? And if so, while it is I'm getting repaired, what else should I ask to have replaced internally while they are at it. The exterior is in almost mint condition for something made in 1971.

One last thing could anyone recommend a decent repairer in melbournes SE suburbs or in the city.

    Thanks

  4. Hi all, l have just come back from being out for a while this morning and noticed a pretty severe popping sound coming from my right speaker. The amp is a Kenwood KA-7002, I have turned volume down but there

Is still the loud pop and also disconnected the CD player and turntable, with no success. I connected the speakers upto my marantz 1070 and the speakers are fine, so it looks like its the KA-7002. So does anyoneVGAve a possible diagnosis for this problem, as I do like this amp a lot and I have nothing to lose in TRY :) to fix it myself. I have a soldering station and multimeter, and only very basic electrical knowledge, so is this problem beyond me? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks all!

  5. Hi to all, its my first post here but have read lots and lots of posts. So my first question is I have $500 -$750 to spend I know its not a heap but i am just new to all this so im not diving in head first. So with the cash what will give me most reward? Keeping in mind I have just inherited 2000+ LPs so down the track i will have to buy a half decent turntable or maybe even now, I wouldnt mind getting into high resolution music streaming either, so where will the cash be best spent? I listent to a mixed bag of music but mainly the heavier end of the scale.

My current set up(if you could call it that :))

    KENWOOD KA-7002 SOLID STATE AMP

    SONY DVP-S9000ES SACD/DVD/CD PLAYER

ONKYO DX-7211 CD PLAYER (PLAYS CD-RW ETC)

MARANTZ MODEL 1070 AMP (USED ON OCCASION)

    HEYBROOK HB100 SPEAKERS

WARFEDALE MELTON 2 (USED ON OCCASION)

no expensive connectors or the like.

I look foward to building a better system and looking foward to the replys

    cheers all!
