  1. Go direct to the INTERVENTION RECORDS website and bypass the middle men. Billy
  2. Good to see you caught up with this @betty boop. Had a hunch you would blown away. That ABC review was actually on the wireless today. Dame Judith was a wild girl and for a few years there, possibly the most accomplished actress working. Starred in some of the best of cinema, and a few of the worst ( looking at you “ Inn of the Damned 1975). ‘ REBECCA’ was one of the earliest films to feature an unseen character who is central to the narrative, a device later deployed to comic effect in ‘ FRASIER ’ and ‘ BIG BANG ‘ to name just two. Next two recommended titles, both from 1949, ‘ THE Q
  3. @Batty- well mastered multi disc sets with tons of live tracks, b-sides etc - great value.
  4. Arrived today from the US. I know Be Bop Deluxe have a few followers here. ‘DRASTIC PLASTIC ‘ was the last band album before Bill Nelson set off on an amazingly prolific solo career. This set features 4 cds, a DVD-a, and a DVD-A/V. Surround mixes of course. Also includes a doco and a BBC ‘ Sight and Sound ‘ concert from 1978. The value here versus a typical McCartney reissue box does deserve a mention😎 Billy
  5. The first edition record, CD and even cassette were mastered with great care. This minimally miked set, ( read the cover notes for more info ) remains a classic on all fronts. The remaster from several years back was ok but rather compressed. This one is the INTERVENTION RECORDS SACD, from mid last year. Shane Beutner is doing remarkable reissue stuff , and this is one of the very best. How much more can you squeeze out of 16bit digital ? Well, with vastly improved mastering chain and great care, quite a lot it seems. This is a total knockout! Billy
  6. Sorry @Batty Steve, it’s not prog ! It is however brilliant and totally barking mad, which is exactly how we like our Kate. Genre could only be described as ‘BUSH’ - membership - one ☝️ Billy.
  7. Odd things going on here Stan. Tried to pm you, blocked. Maybe you pm me.
  8. Very interested to hear your thought on this one @stand. The dynamic range site indicates the three JAPAN albums were all rather compressed in comparison to first edition CD, and even the remasters from a few years back. I know D.R. isn’t everything, and I do love sacd when used to its full potential, so are these a useful improvement??? Billy
  9. Revisiting SPARKS with the two most recent albums. They really sit at the intersection of art rock/prog/demented pop and literary references. They also have the best song titles in recent times ; let’s see, ’Edith Piaf ( Said it better than me)’ ‘So tell me Mrs Lincoln, aside from that; how was the play?’ ’Life with The Macbeths’ ‘ Stravinskys’ Only Hit’ ’ Sainthood is not in your future ‘ .. and the fantastically funny ‘ What the hell is it this time ?’ - a cautionary tale of what happens when you piss off God with too many requests ! Billy

  11. Good grief @progladyte, doing the pan- state thing already ! You haven’t seen all of Gympie yet. Golden rules for safe and fulfilling travel: 1/ Extra hard wearing undies. 2/ 24 packs of Cuppa-Noodles. 3/ A good torch. 4/ Lomotil. 5/ A decent feather duster. Stay well Greg and keep your eyes on the borders. Billy 👍👍👍👍
  12. This excellent band from NZ met their fate by relocating to Sydney rather than Melbourne. They are such a Melbourne vibe band it still puzzles me... One major regret for me is to have never caught them live. Sole album CLOCKWORK REVENGE is really every bit as good as the first few GENESIS or MARILLION albums. As a band, they sit midway between GENESIS, MARILLION ( FISH era) and debut SPLIT ENZ. As a vocal, the composers of each track took the lead vocal, and the harmonies on this track capped by that soaring high note before the middle eight still gives me goosebumps.
