  1. I remember mine fondly, it produced some of the best musical experiences I’ve ever had in my previous house. These look to be in great condition!
  2. A well integrated sub will definitely improve your experience with music that has substantial content that low, however my experience is that unless your speakers roll off quite a bit earlier (much higher F10) it can sound as if it’s not changed much on some content. Also the beauty of a Genelec sub is that the integration is sorted out for you by GLM. No need to fuss around with trying to do it by ear or setting up other measurement systems & high/low-pass filters. Yes some form of room correction i.e Dirac will work wonders on your main system I suspect as your KEFs are no slouch
  3. Little late here with my reply.. Your 8330A seems to have an F10 of mid to low 40hz based in the CEA2034 on ASR forums, so will probably do you for most music. The sub will really only add 15-25hz of content which will depend on what genres you listen to. See if you can borrow a 7350A or even a 7360A which I feel to be a better match. That would probably help you decide if you need a subwoofer for the listening you do.
  4. Rythmik also comes to mind. However only some models have amp options that feature high level inputs, e.g F12 with A370PEQ or A370PEQ3.
  5. The U1 mini toslink is an output only. The U1 mini is purely a streamer with a volume control, no input capability. If you want a digital preamp you should look at the MiniDSP SHD Studio. Toslink, USB, AES, coaxial SPDIF input, and AES/EBU or SPDIF coaxial out. https://www.minidsp.com/products/streaming-hd-series/shd-studio
  6. Yes indeed the Logitech Transporter was way ahead of it’s time. I now have a Lumin U1 mini & have the ability to do digital volume control on any of the digitals outs. I’ve read somewhere that it can also do simultaneous digital out as long as it’s not on the USB out. Other Lumins with an analogue output can also have the volume digitally controlled too. Or even both analogue & digital simultaneously out too. https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/14016-lumin-audiophile-network-music-player/?do=findComment&comment=1124469
  7. Hmm I wonder why. Maybe because they don't have the packaging?
  8. Selby have some of the S510 ex demo on discount. https://www.selby.com.au/clearance/rel-s510-500w-10-12-subwoofer-gloss-black.html
  9. When you say linestage input are you using the digital to analogue converter (dac) in your amp or phone? If you are using the dac in your phone there may be some improvements with a streamer+dac me thinks…
  10. Thank you. I demoed them in a local studio’s mastering room. I was shown the responses of the 8361A by themselves & with W371A, main difference in the response shown in GLM was that the larger woofer (14”) on the W371A had better directivity to a lower frequency, and thus suffered less SBIR in the 200-300hz region in the mastering room. With the 8361A by themselves GLM had to apply a boost over that region where there was a dip. I suspect if one wants to go with W371As it would possibly be a better choice to go with the 8351Bs. From my research it seems with the W371As the default crossover selected by GLM is 150-250hz, with the ability to go all the way up to over 400hz. I didn’t get to hear the 8351B, so I can’t say what the difference is in terms of low end extension. I just made the assumption that the larger woofers, the 2x+ power available to the woofers as well as the increase in enclosure volume must count for something, else why would Genelec make the 8361A I’ve never heard the Kii3s with the BXT modules before, they must be something judging by your description! Would love to have the opportunity to hear them one day. Tried both a single-point correction with GLM, & then compared it to Dirac’s tightly focused imaging correction. This is without the sub. The preference for me was Dirac, with what I hear to be clearer more transparent mids & highs. I have not verified the corrections with REW yet, maybe I’ll get to it one day when I have more time. After that I crossed & time-aligned my sub using the MiniDSP and ran another Dirac correction. This is what I’m currently listening with. Have you tried Dirac with GLM together?
  11. Yes definitely underrated in traditional hifi circles! I enjoyed just plugging them in, running GLM or Dirac and have them sound great in 30min or less. All my previous set-ups required far more extensive tweaking for me to be anywhere close to happy with the sound. Which Genelec models do you have? How are you feeding them?
  12. I’ll start the ball rolling with a photo of my modest setup, hugely simplified compared to my previous setup. THE 8361A’s are fed via AES/EBU via a MiniDSP SHD Studio, and the source is my trusty Lumin U1 Mini. I’ve got a Rythmik F12 covering below 30hz through the MiniDSP as well. I was weighing these up against the Kii3s, Dutch & Dutch 8C, & the Neumann KH420. I’ve heard the first 2 but not the Neumanns. The listening wasn’t done back to back and it was some of it was a long time ago, but ultimately sound wasn’t the biggest deciding factor for me as all these active systems seemed to be designed well & other factors were more important in the end. I bit the bullet after hearing the 8361A both with & without the W371A, both in complimentary mode as well as directive mode. In the end the very tiny if not nil difference (to me)with the W371A in was encouraged me to part with my hard-earned. I’ve had them for just over 2 weeks now and I’m glad I took the plunge.
  13. Recently I’ve decided to take the plunge into active speakers, and after much research & debate I ended up with a pair of 8361A’s. While I was contemplating my purchase I didn’t find much information on any of the Genelecs on Stereonet, except a few posts here and there on the studio monitor thread. Thought it would be good to start a thread for current & prospective owners of these wonderful monitors. Mods is it possible to move this to the Owner’s discussion threads?
  14. Further Information: Great entry level RCA cable. Good option if you don't want to break the bank, I've used it to connect my subwoofer to my DAC in the past. Add $12 for shipping. Specs: https://www.neo-w.com/english/d_plus/d_plus_rca_ser/
  15. Further Information: Price is for all 4. US style RF plugs/covers for unused sockets on your power distributor/conditioner. No longer required as I've done to Australian plugs. 1st photo contains actual items, but I've included a stock photo as the lighting is better.
  16. Further Information: It is with great regret I am listing this amplifier for sale. It has been in my family for almost 2 decades, first owned by my uncle, then my dad and then finally passed down to me. This has driven some hard to drive speakers in the past, including Thiel CS7s, CS7.2s, CS2.4SE, CS2.7s (mine), Hales Transcendence 8s etc. If only I had space for storage I would consider keeping it. This has been fully recapped twice, most recently by @tubularbells. He was very thorough, rectifying all the issues, replacing all the electrolytic capacitors, as well as updating everything to Mark Levinson’s service bulletin specifications. I also got him to upgrade the hardwired power cable to a larger gauge one with a Furutech FI-50AU-NCF worth $550. Essentially no expenses were spared in getting this back up to it’s former glory. Including the power cable & plug over 2.2k worth of parts were put into this, and bear in mind this excludes labour. It was given a clean bill of health after all that work, and hasn’t been used at all since I picked it up a few weeks ago. The 336 is rated for 350W RMS both channels driven into 8 ohm, doubling into 4 ohms, and then doubling again into 2ohm. It is claimed to be 1 ohm stable. The full specifications is attached as one of the pages of the owner’s manual below. It has 2 transformers (dual mono) rated at 2450VA, and so weights in at 68kg. Unfortunately modern amplifiers with specifications like this cost an arm & a leg. As such this is only for pickup. For any serious potential buyer 10km or less from me I am willing to discuss transporting this behemoth (with your help of course!) to your system for you to listen to it in your system. Low-ballers will be ignored.
  17. Further Information: I bought this used from Carlton AV, it was traded in to them by one of their clients. Tech-flex has come off on one side of the power filter, however does not affect functionality in my experience. IEC end is a Furutech FI-11. It lowered the noise floor in my system when powering the source DAC & pre-amp though a power distributor.
  18. Further Information: Bulk lot of 4 Oyaide US plus power cables. Great value cables, each retailing for over 400USD new. 1st photo is the Tunami GPX, PCOCC-A copper, copper shielding, with a special version of Oyaide's famous P-046 & C-046 connectors with phosphor bronze contacts with gold and palladium plating. This is a stiff cable, so tight radiuses is a challenge. 2nd photo is the Tunami GPX-R, essentially the same cable as above with the upgraded P-004 & C-004 connector made with beryllium copper plated with platinum & palladium. 3rd & 4th photo are the Black Mamba Sigma cables. A more flexible cable than the Tunami, but still heavy gauge enough for power amps. The plugs are a special version of the P-004 & C-004 which is beryllium copper buff finished with no plating. I am selling these as a bulk lot, not interested in splitting them up. As such I've priced them to move, so low ballers will be ignored.
  19. Further Information: *Please bear in mind that the outlets are US outlets, NOT Au outlets. I've had this for many years and it's done it's job well, not calling attention to itself. High quality distributor, well built. Due to my audio components having to go into the TV unit now I can no longer run big unwieldy power cables so am looking to move this on. This is the R1 version with the beryllium copper receptacles, and came at an extra cost. Price back in the day was over $800. Priced to move and to reflect the non perfect cosmetic condition, so no low ballers please. I will package well for shipping if required. Specs: 2.0mm thick brass plate formed into a special shape for rigidity, speed and good internal energy absorption properties. The plate is coated with extra thick layers of non-electrolytic nickel ground plating, andthen finished with chrome plating to further enhance its rigidity and speed characteristics. This also has the effect of improving shielding against widerrange E.M.I. Internal Wiring 2.0mm dia., high purity (4N) solid Silver AC Outlet R1 Beryllium Copper(6 outlets) AC Inlet Original IEC AC Intlet (Silver / Rhodium) Plating Case 2.0mm thick Brass with special plating
  20. Further Information: https://www.solid-tech.net/silence/?singleproduct=3708 Beautiful black and cherry 3 shelf rack by Solid-Tech of Sweden. Purchased in September 2021 as I needed a rack which will support 80kg on at least 1 shelf. Pillars are currently filled with dried sand for additional damping. I was surprised by the bonus improvement in sound to my ears compared to having my amplifier on the floor. Your mileage may vary of course, I'm not suggesting this rack will improve the sound of your system Selling as I'm moving to actives, and will need more living room friendly hi-fi furniture as I no longer have a dedicated room. Condition is excellent, these racks are very well made. Current RRP on this is over $3k. I will include the 3 cherry veneered MDF shelves I made for the rack and finished in Danish oil to match the rack at no extra charge. Because these shelves were DIY i cannot guarantee the finish on them, it was my first time! One of the shelves has some surface damage on them due to my power amp's capacitors leaking. Once you have your component on it you can't see the damage anymore. ** the Herbie's Giant spike decoupling gliders shown in the picture are not included.
  21. Not 100% sure regarding buffers, I suspect they are OEM Hypex buffers? TBH I've been super happy with it as is so I haven't tried to find out. Maybe @81Vintage can chime in here if he remembers this build?
  22. Further Information: Aurealis’s best XLR balanced interconnects. I’ve owned the CuL, the AgCuL, and these. They all sounded great, but these R1 Dargon’s combine the detail, sparkle & dynamics of the AgCuL with the midrange purity of the CuL. Bested every single other balanced XLR cables I’ve owned. These are quite special. Features from Aurealis Audio website: -7 Litz wires per channel. Silver and copper Litz are combine in the signal paths (Pin 2 and Pin 3) -As with the RCA version, 3 different gauges of Litz wire are used - 24, 26 and 28 awg -The Litz wire used is our own premium Litz. This is a genuine UPOCC Litz with a very high strand count and each strand insulated in enamel. There are around 100 signal carriers on Pin 2 and Pin 3 of this cable. This results in immaculate detail, a great sound stage, and a cable that is very close to lossless -The Litz wire is supported by the wonderful ETI Kryo XLRs. These use silver-plated copper pins insulated in a teflon block. -Cotton sheathing and a foamed teflon tube are used for support and to dampen microphonics -Double external braiding with the outside braid in the green and black Dragon colours Only selling as I’ve decided to go to a digital active system, so no analogue cables required. RRP when they were still available $633.
  23. Further Information: Bought from Phil of KustomDek in March 22 as a summer amp. Was originally listed for sale end of November 22 prior to my house move, however pulled from sale as I discovered my main amp’s power caps were leaking & needed to be re-capped. Since used as my stand in amp for the past 9 months, an average of 2-3 hours a week. Since my main amp is most likely not repairable I’ve decided to sell up everything for a change in direction. I’ve been impressed with modern Class D implementations, have compared this amp with a couple of traditional Class AB amps many times it’s price (my ML336 & Cambridge Edge W) and it’s very close or better. It’s convinced me that for most people with reasonable to drive speakers Class D is the way to go. I’ve priced this to sell, so no low-ball offers please. If you are based in Melbourne & not too far away from me we can talk about you trying this in your system. Small scratch on the top left front corner, and small mark on the rear right corner. Shown on last 2 photos. First 2 are more recent photos, 3rd photo is the internal shot from Phil’s original ad.
