Item Condition: Used, but all in immaculate condition with no scratches etc., except for 1 ding to the corner of the rear wall speaker’s housing (not very noticeable) happened when installing . All amp gear is about 1.8 ish years old, the speakers I bought from my old man I am the second owner all ways been respectably powered and not trashed. Reason for selling: Life throws us some bumps in the road… And I am needing the money over the audio nirvana. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bankcheque etc. Extra Info: As all ways it would be nice to try sell it to someone as an entire kit to get them started in the world of Hi-FI & Home Cinema but I am keeping an open mind so for now I will float it as an EOI to test the waters on the off chance someone out there would buy the lot. Everything can be demoed still setup in my listening room I swear if someone was keen on an entire system and had the money to out lay at once I can guarantee one sit in the room and they would be sold! The Audiolab M-DAC needs a special mention if you’re in the know you will know its received a lot of hype and if you know more the guy that created and designed it all split away from audio lab and started his own company ‘LakeWest’ my M-DAC was sent to his workshop and he modified it to have a Home Theatre bypass and paid to have all resistors in the analogue audio stage replaced with Vishay Naked Z-foil’s as it was later apparent by John at lakewest the that china manufacturing process substituted resistors from the original design scope which degraded the sound quality, even though it was still awesome the replacement with the Z-Foils and re-worked power supply rail’s has taken it to another level!. The H/T bypass is great as I can have the M-DAC connected directly to my power amp and play music back in its purest form without any data manipulation (all bit-perfect) and the M-DAC its self really brings the music alive!, the modifications were not cheap as z-foils are expensive !, details below. MDAC L1 “MDAC internal PSU section upgrade (this upgrades 6 of the PSU supply rails around the ESS DAC, reducing modulation spurie by up to x1000 (40dB) around the ESS DAC).†MDAC L2 - which includes the L1 upgrade which my unit has. “Full rebuild (redesign) of the CROSS analogue stage, over 56 components changed in the Analogue section + MDAC L1. Major leap in sound quality. Vishay Naked Z-foil resistors (Toy/Fusion) During development/testing of MDAC L2, results have shown that certain components (resistors) can have a significant effect on sound quality when used in a feedback loop. This upgrade further enhances MDAC L2. Originally, only 4 resistors were considered to be critical, but the revelation around resistors itself led to the idea of replacing all "important" resistors in direct analog signal path by the Z-foil resistors.†You can no longer get your M-DAC modded by John because he's commenced work on the MDAC2 and does not have time to upgrade any more units. The Marantz has not been used for amplification just as a pre-amp, HDMI switcher and other features like AirPlay (overkill I know but I was going to use the on board amps to power other external room speakers) Summary: In summary, this might not be the best of the best but to me and I am sure many others if they had this system, it is the first audio setup I have had that I now say Movie Cinema's are a waste of time because the audio sounds appalling. When I am playing any form of music in 2-Channel playing live LP's for example, I get goose bumps imagining my self there because of the atmosphere and stage it recreates and how real it feels.. I quote from Wikipedia with the key words underlined. "Goose bumps, may involuntarily develop when a person is cold or experiences strong emotions such as fear, nostalgia, pleasure, euphoria, awe"... surely if your system is recreating this you have a good combination of components regardless of price point or brand, and I am not easily impressed. 2. Was missing detail was being mudded... and bit of staging when using digital streaming sources aka spotify I have demoed a bunch and went with the Audiolab M-DAC as it also has a Cross-A headphone amp so I can use my headphones. With this hardware I was able to use it to test for bit-perfect streams and found I can only do a 16-bit / 44.1khz stream using Air Play optical out from my Air Port Express, and if I used any other air play sending software like 'AirFoil' it would not be a bit perfect stream. the best quality however was achieved with MacBook optical to M-DAC I can get a bit perfect 24bit/96khz stream and playing some 24-bit/96k ripped vinyl tracks sounds amazing if i compare it to the same song on spotify (so much missing detail) makes you appreciate good source material
  3. Sounds like a good budget, what would you recommend for me to look at with spending 1k on each.
  4. My theatre room is my main room where i do most of my stereo listening, the room is setup well and sounds great for movies, but I feel I am not getting the most out of it for when I am just listening to music in bypass mode and wanting to know what I should look at. I think the solution is to go down the path of a valve output amp stage but not sure whats a good balance between cost and function and hoping some one can confirm if valve is where i need to take it or do i need some tweaks else where with my gear, or maybe I just need to go back to old skool which is now the new skool again ? (Vinyl) I wont discuss the rest of the surround equipment as its not important for stereo but its all matching. Input Stage : Source material is typically FLAC with BitPerfect or Spotify music streaming (High Quality option) but I also have BitPerfect running for that as well which helps out. I use AirPlay to get the digital signal to the Marantz, Marantz runs in Pure Direct for music listing, which is no alteration to the source audio that I am aware of all fan dangled features used with Movies and EQ's are off. Output Stage: Marantaz SR7005 Combo amp / doing the Pre-amp/Processing (a waste of space i know as iam not using its amps had this from a previous setup.) Rotel 1582 2 Channel A/B power amp Sonus Faber grand piano domus's - the first series type, the better ones So what could I do / look at to improve things ! thanks.
  5. My bad, I did mean SR7005, I have some Sonus Faber Grand Piano Domus on their way (lucky find) but not sure the amp will handle them, so I am eyeing up a ROTEL RB-991 to hopefully do the job. But yeah this is my second day of using the amp RDO today so have spent some time with it, really like it.
  6. I am still building my system, but for now cant afford separate power amps to drive my equipment so I have settled for using an AV Receiver with a acceptable amount of power output. I was able to get my hands on for testing with my speakers a Onkyo 601, 607 and a Marantz SR7005 I found that the Marantz posses good Audiophile sound characteristics for an AV Receiver when running in Pure Direct (by passing all EQ and amp hacks) The sound stage it help produce was excellent, and great balance on highs mid's and lows in comparison to the Onkyo's and funny thing was the 601 Onkyo did a better job then the 607. running in the 5.1ch DTS/DD the Marantz felt best to me. I have now bought one and happy !, Air Play is also good ! My speakers, Fronts : Sonus Faber Concertinos Center : Sonus Faber Solo Home Rear : Sonus Faber Wall Domus Sub : 12" MKSound MK-250 Just though I would share incase any one else was tossing up what AV amp to run their gear as well as good decent sound quality for music!. -Scott
