Magnetic tape storage has been undergoing a renaissance in recent years, according to Mark Lantz, manager of CloudFPGA and tape technologies at IBM Zurich. This resurgence, Lantz argues, has been driven by the convergence of two trends: exponential data growth and a simultaneous slowing down of areal density in hard-disk drives (HDD). IBM scientists showed off a 29-fold increase in the storage capability of its current data-tape cartridge, from 20 terabytes (TB) to 580 TB. That’s roughly 32-times the capacity of LTO-Ultrium (Linear Tape-Open, version 9), the latest industry-standard in magneti

Further information: The Musette is in a silver finish. Metrum are a proponent of R2R, hence devout dislikers of Delta-Sigma conversion. They've relied on industrial chips from outside hifi to need serious glue-logic coding before they interface with audio signal. With up to 384kHz acceptance, noise better than -144dB relative to 2Vrms, channel separation of 100dB across the bandwidth, the Musette is a thoroughly modern DAC. The compact 19 x 6 x 24.5cm WxHxD box weighs 2kg, includes a small 15VA transformer, draws 5 watts in use and offers 1 x Toslink, 2 x coax and 1 x USB with RCA output.

Musical Fidelity M8 Pre & Power
Cybrarian replied to Gambit 1870's topic in Stereo Amplifiers & Pre-Amps
The general consensus is that the VA 101 exhibits high resolution with total control even over larger drivers, with a very low noise floor...& great musicality. I know of members on SNA who use it with speakers with accuton drivers [Gauder Akoustik & Marten], transmission line speakers [PMC Twentyfive.26], & Vivid Audio B1 [with fibre-loaded polymer complex & vented cabinet] Apparently it is “high bias AB amp,” so the first 12 watts per channel are in full Class -A mode." Speakers used in reviews include: Focal Stella Utopia EM, Raidho D1.1, & GamuT Zodiac Re -

H is for Happy Mondays, ...formed in Salford, Manchester (UK) in 1980. The band's original line-up was Shaun Ryder (vocals), his brother Paul Ryder (bass), Mark Day (guitar), Paul Davis (keyboard), and Gary Whelan (drums). Mark "Bez" Berry later joined the band onstage as a dancer/percussionist. Rowetta joined the band as a vocalist in 1990. The group's work bridged the Manchester independent rock music of the 1980s and the emerging UK rave scene, drawing influence from funk, house, and psychedelia to pioneer the Madchester sound. They experienced their commercial peak with the relea

The amplifiers from Edge Electronic (founded 1987) in the U.S. would fall into this category....consider the NL Reference monoblocks which are Edge Electronics' statement amplifiers. These 800 watt, weigh 440kg mono-blocks are very high voltage, very high current output amplifiers which output 800 Watts per channel @ 8 Ohms; 1600 Watts per channel @ 4 Ohms; 3200 Watts per channel @ 2...did I hear someone mention the Tower of Babel?
