  1. Thanks I'll keep my eye out but the only ones around at the moment have the seller asking way too much. Gumtree has a RX-V3079 for $1500 or a RX-A3050 for $1450. I have seen those for around $1000 and I have seen brand new RX-V3085s for $1900.
  2. Quite right I mis-typed there. Thanks for the other thoughts. I am thinking the second hand models will do the job for me (but still keen on other's thoughts) - the issue is they are so good hardly anyone is selling them!
  3. Hi all, Looking at similar threads there seems to be guidance that any AVR 2016+ is good so I am looking at a new 3085 or down to a second hand 2081 (I am considering any AMP between those two specs). Trying to decide what matters and if I need to fork out for the latest and greatest. My dedicated HT room layout is shown in the thread I started here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/90-receivers-amps-processors/3068310-will-i-benefit-atmos-amp.html I haven't as yet but it is conceivable to move the FPL and FPR speakers into the ceiling. I will try on the wall initially. Things have changed since that post (although I still havent bought an AMP!) so I have some questions about the differences between the latest and older models. I have been comparing specs via this site https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/yamaha-rx-a2060/australia/yamaha-rx-a3080/australia/ Q1. In practice is the improved DAC noticeable. Would ripping my CDs to a higher bitrate MP3 benefit from this? (I think I will rip them again to FLAC regardless) Q2. The 3085 has dropped support for Dolby Pro Logic and Dolby Digital EX. Are there any issues with that or does a different Dolby technology merely replace it? Q3. Is the HD3 version of Cinema DSP (vs 3D) and Surround AI worth anything? Q4. I have read that Yamaha's YPAO isn't great but the 3085 adds the words "64-Bit High Precision EQ Calculation". Is that much of an improvement? Besides the power rating and the 11.2 channels is there anything else that I should be considering when deciding on the next AMP. My main goal is to get the best sound field I can without paying for stuff I don't need. Mainly used for movie viewing via streaming in HD or BluRay (also Laserdisc which has AC-3 output) but also music when the mood takes me! I've always had Yamaha and I'm very happy so plan to stick with them. I was also thinking perhaps the RX-V3079 as with my projector (JVC X35) I don't think I need any of the later video improvements? So yes I can afford the 3085 which is running around $2000 at the moment but if I can pick up second hand for half that and get what I need then happy days. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! 4. Sendle quotes $28.95 including insurance to $1500? https://try.sendle.com/en-au/pricing I’ve used them for a couple of things. Worked fine, they used Couriers Please.
  5. Hmmm... Might have to put up with it then. Something might be slipping when it hits max zoom sometimes.?
  6. Thanks guys, When I am at 2.35:1 I am close to max zoom. I am wondering if this has anything to do with it. cashflag are you at max zoom and jeffpr are you well short of it?
  7. I have multiple aspect ratios saved in my X35 which is making great use of my scope screen. However, I have noticed that the memorised position drifts. That is, I will set it perfectly, save it, use it a bunch of times without issue then one day find it has shifted and I have a gap to the edge of my screen. This gap can be any side. Is this common? Do I just have to live with this or is there a solution?
  8. Thanks, that’s what I was thinking. Was just wondering if some might be better than others but as you say the time since I bought these will make a precise match difficult. If no one else has any better advice I will look to grab any B&W centre. Thanks for the heads up on the LCR I will avoid those.
  9. Hi all, I have some trusty B&W DM310 speakers in my lounge room. The current centre (not B&W) I want to replace. Whilst the are plenty for sale most are the new Kevlar drivers and so I am concerned about matching. So any recommendations? For sale I have seen CC6, LCR6S2 and CC3. Not wedded to these just came up in the searches. Thanks in advance!
  10. I have been waiting patiently for a second hand RX-V3079 (RX-A3050) or later to turn up somewhere as an upgrade to my existing setup. My room is currently wired for 7.2.2 + 1 zone with front height speakers and I could in future put in two ceiling mounted speakers at the back to have 7.2.4 + 1 zone. I have discovered that the Yamaha amps can't easily cater for my desire to potentially do 7.2.4 + 1 zone. You can read about what speakers I have in this thread... I just stumbled across Eastwood Hifi who have a sale on at the moment for the Onkyo TX-RZ730 for $1399. From my reading of the manual this can do 7.2.2 + 1 zone out of the box. Looking at some forums its auto-EQ might be better than Yamaha's? What am I missing? Is the power handling not on par? Something else that makes it cheap compared to the Yamaha? I have always owned Yamaha so i am out of my knowledge zone with this brand....
  11. Quick question along the same lines. If you had the AMP wired up for 9ch+RP as per page 31 of the manual can you also have a second zone connected to the speaker output? I currently have my room wired for 9.2 and that room also drives my outside speakers (in stereo). Page 34 of the manual says both the 2070 and 3070 will do that configuration but I just want to know if I can add two more speakers (driven by an external AMP) and keep everything that I have now? So I am asking if I can end up with 7.2.4 in my main room plus one zone? I don't see this option in the manual so I am thinking no and if that is the case then I would just go with a 2070 as I don't think I am gaining anything with the 3070 in my situation (in that I need the second zone). Thanks for the help!
  12. Yes that might be a problem but you do have to start an app on your phone to control it. I have one of these for a different reason and I haven’t had it randomly turn on or off.
  13. No I don't but these are on sale at the moment which would make it easier to cycle power to it. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tp-link/tp-link-hs100-smart-wi-fi-plug/334366/
  14. Thanks. I was worried if there might be some vibration issue but yes probably can't be much worse than just hanging there. I could rig up something but thought maybe some proper bumpers would be better...?
  15. Hi Guys, I recently purchased some Focal 605s which have their own keyhole in the back for wall mounting. They are up but I have an issue that the chunky speaker cable I use is causing the speaker to sit slightly uneven on the all. Just wondering if anyone sees any issue with me putting these 12mmx5mm silicon bumpers on the back to stand the speaker off the wall a little and allow the cable more easily run down... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Clear-Self-Adhesive-Rubber-Feet-Bumper-Dots-Door-Cabinet-Bumper-Buffer-Stop-Pads/312550039575 or these https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/20pcs-set-Self-Adhesive-Rubber-Feet-Bumper-Non-Slip-Door-Furniture-Buffer-Pad-FE/283495659471
