  1. Anyone know what happened to the car audio side? My understanding was that is was a separate business owned by different people? At least thats what I was told when I shopped there.
  2. Thanks for the pics. Are those ribbon speakers new Apogees?
  3. This is another resource for headphone/iem eq https://github.com/iwalton3/AutoEq/tree/master/results/
  4. You may be right. An editorial supervision would provide a check process. But then who knows motivations etc. But the guy went there and filmed what was happening! Has also spoken to people directly involved. Clearly goes beyond sitting behind a keyboard.
  5. Agreed. Although he is doing a good job, bringing this to light. Also highlighting the audio show issues in his other recent article. Really needs a good editor... or supervision from Marc
  6. Stick with your current speakers and put the Rythmik sub together. If you go line in on the Rythmik plate amp from your dac/pre and line out to the 8030, from memory the Rhythmik uses an 80Hz crossover. That maybe all you need, and see if you are happy with it. Otherwise I would probably pick miniDSP with Dirac over GLM. Can use with any combination of speakers/sub and not locked into one ecosystem. Moving up the Genelec line gives you loudness and extra bass extension. If using a sub, bass extension is no longer relevant. Does the 8030 get loud enough? I use 8040 in a bedroom and dont even feel the need for a sub (i have 3 subs in my HT). Imaging between 8030/8330/8040 in nearfield/midfield will be the same, this only changes when you go to the Ones which are point source. I think Rythmik subs sound/look better than Genelec. Servo control is very cool. If you have plans for the sub box, any cabinet maker could make it for you. I think Redspade Audio made Rhythmik subs?
  7. Ok, a lot of things make sense now. Have been a customer there for years - including several big car installs. Dropped by a few weeks ago to buy a trigger cable and they were literally throwing high end products at me at ridiculous prices. They do some big custom jobs, I hope they have not left lots of people out of pocket. Looks like the new "owner" is clearing out what was left behind. I bet the expensive stuff is long gone.
  8. I tried to take a picture of that room as well. Although it looked ridiculus, it all kind of worked, it was put together very well. Some interesting gear as well with GanFET amps with a fake tube look. Also interesting to hear the same drivers Wilson Audio use in the much cheaper - and at least to me - better sounding Audio Solutions speaker. Cabinet construction and bracing is important, the bass of the Figaro was outstanding, so clear and distortion free.
  9. Some good points. I was wondering how a show like that is viable while I was there on Sunday. Much like the hobby itself. The vast majority of attendees seemed to be 50+ Its not a hobby that the young are interested in. And prices make it seem like buying luxury cars.
  10. I attended today (sunday). Seemed very low key compared to last year. Standouts for me were usual suspects - Duntech, Wavetrain, March. I enjoyed a couple of systems that are usually not my style - Harbeth and Devore. Both were well balanced and a relief from the overwhelmin bass in some other rooms. I sat in both those rooms for a while. A couple of setups I had not heard before - the Audio Solutions Figaro, find of the show for me - brilliant. And the Alsy Vox full range ribbon speakers - again very nice... but $130k!! And that is the entry level.
  11. Fortunate to have systems in both dedicated room and a shared space. We all spend time together in both spaces, a dedicated room does not exclude family and has other advantages.
  12. Still have the MadVR Envy as well. So even more fun for you!
  13. Ah, did I get that wrong? Is the Arcam only stereo? Or pre only? How is the centre running?
  14. Iam with you. Turned my projector image quality into something I did not think was possible. Speaking of which I now have a 98inch qled @Clarity Calibration - when are u next in Sydney? I also get that for some setups the cost of pro cal does not seem worth it. Probably can get 80-90% of the way there with diy options. I remember looking up Tony's cal gear, some of that stuff retails over $20k!
  15. Is ur title wrong? Looks like 7 channels?
  16. Start with a sub and rears and use your existing avr. That may be enough to give you that cinema sound experience. Then if you feel the need get an avr with quality room correction and modern connection standards. I recently picked a 98inch qled over more expensive but smaller oled. Sometimes screen size trumps ultimate image quality. Cant go wrong with whatever you chose, the process can be fun!
  17. Me as well. Corner bass traps work very well. Also still have my Falcon. Thats got to be a small club - Falcon owner with corner bass traps
  18. Item: 100inch screen, with black frame. Extra Info: cant remember material detail, has a slight grey tint and was picked to work better in ambient light environments. No damage, but could use a clean. About 10yrs old.
  19. I will take a different point of view. No way I could listen to live music in its full spectrum/dynamic range for 10 hrs. It is fatiguing, a 3 hour orchestral concert is more than enough for me. I kinda like my system to sound the same. For extended periods of background listening I can neuter it with various eq profiles and lower the volume. Non fatiguing- yes, high fidelity- not so sure.
  20. Ok, so significantly more than LS60, but a bit cheaper than 8c Studio (also needs a streamer). Probably about right price wise? The cardioid will make it sound better than some other actives in compromised spaces.
  21. The build looks beautiful! Congrats on your project.
