  1. Further Information: selling for my father to help clean out his shed. Vintage unmatched crossovers in timber ply boxes. Make an offer.
  2. Further Information: These belong to my father down in Bendigo. He’s having a garage clean out and found these in some old enclosures. Between us both, we honestly know nothing about them. While listing a price above, we’ll entertain more appropriate offers if my guess is totally out of line. Both are tested with music and working fine without any untoward or undesired sounds but are being sold as is. Pick up only from Maiden Gully, Bendigo or happy to drop as is to the local Pack’n’Send.
  3. Post it to me instead Message sent.
  4. Been listening to the new speakers quite a bit over the last couple of days. They’re certainly quite different to the Martin Logans. The MLs presented everything in a polite way with several rows of seating between myself and the performers. It seemed to be in contrast to the listening space confines being on the smaller side of things. The MSs, on the other hand, are very, very big on detail with razor sharp imaging with me right up near the performers. These do layer better than the MLs in my existing room and probably due to the dipole tweeters, cast a very wide and high stage like the MLs did. To be expected too, the spectral balance is maintained better when off axis. Consistent with my old Performance 880s with their resin enclosure, is an uncanny lack of boxy colouration. The drivers are also mounted on spines forming part of the rear of the enclosure and are sealed to the front baffle with rubber gaskets. The tweeter also sits in its own enclosure and floats in a rubber tube mounted through the enclosure. Quite a lot of treble comes out of the rear of the spike near the top of the enclosure. While bass is also full of detail and is more tuneful than the DSP version in the MLs, it is lacking a little in weight. I will add two subs to address this and I’m currently searching for B&W PV1s in gloss silver to match the aesthetic and occupy very little space. So, yes, quite happy indeed with these.
  5. my family’s had a few sets over the years too. Easy to see why people like them.
  6. I think so, yes. Plus, the speakers are more stable. As stable, anyway, as they can be on Gaia's.
  7. Great posts and yes, Mission speakers respond well to crossover mods. Have a sift through my thread. Bit of a Mission fan myself and have modded many sets now. e83 and 782
  8. Isoacoustics point out that it's not just about isolation but control of frequencies too. So, while carpet isolates, it may not manage the frequencies at play in a way Isoacoustics claim can be of benefit. I have carpet over a slab. I've used granite pavers on large cones to pierce the carpet. My speakers then sit on Gaia's on the pavers. Works very well for me.
  9. Item: PV1 subwoofer. Price Range: negotiable Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: I’m chasing an original PV1, not the PV1D. Must be the gloss silver version. I’m in Brisbane. Thank you.
  10. Definitely a different flavour to that I’ve been accustomed to for the last couple of years. I think it’s something I could enjoy quite a bit though so these will be staying. The Gaia III footers sweetened the upper mid and treble nicely but I have some Gaia II on order as the speakers are right up at the mass limit of the III’s. When I get back from leave, I’ll be shopping Mundorf capacitors and Nordost cables for a rebuild. To the Brand’s credit, inductors and resistors are quality items already. I may also add subs. Older B&W PV1’s in matching gloss metallic silver could do nicely but I’ll see. The "filtered dipole" or rear vented tweeter on these really does seem to help with air and spaciousness and for a box speaker, these throw a big stage quite well. Layering and image placement is quite stunning and my brain needs to work very little to "see" a wonderfully developed 3D stage. Overall, the spectral balance is hotter up top and I initially found this annoying as it aggravated an issue which sometimes affects hearing in my right ear post-stroke. The footers definitely helped here though, thank goodness. Bass is lighter than the Martin Logans but I do like what these do with bass. They do show variation very well. They're also heavier than they look I guess but at 30kg, they're not too bad. They're also quite lovely to look at being all curvy and smooth. Would they justify their quite expensive price when new? I'd say definitely.
  11. Thanks Nada. Black supports mounted back from the front gives the floating look I was after. The timber shelves also have Dynamat CLD sheets underneath to damp them further. U-shaped brackets would also work but I couldn't find any easily at the time.
  12. Further Information: I’m actually doing this. My beautiful sounding Ethos are now up for sale. I purchased them used a couple of years ago for use in my large 5m x 9m living space and they were draw-droppingly good there driven by my full Cyrus Audio system. I purchased them from a fellow in Ipswich who was in charge of selling off his elderly father’s hifi gear due to a move to palliative care. Since then I’ve moved to a small 2 bedroom apartment with a living space of about 3m x 4.5m. They still work here well enough but I’m kidding myself about them sounding as good as previously. They are a truly full range speaker and I no longer needed my subwoofer once I got these. Time for someone else to enjoy them. They also don’t fit the aesthetic my wife is aiming for now anyway. I’ve gone for something much shorter and silver/grey to match the furniture. These are pretty much unmarked, include the manual, 3/8” stainless spikes, rubber tip footers and ML covers. The steel outriggers shown in a couple of the pics below can be purchased separately. The boxes are gone so a local sale would be easier. I can deliver within a reasonable distance though and there is a Pack’n’Send around the corner from me who’ve been very helpful and accommodating to me when shipping expensive items previously. Their replacement is the ESL9 at AU$13 999 retail so these should go pretty quickly at the listed price. The online manual is here: https://www.martinlogan.com/uploads/documents/manuals/manual_ethos.pdf and positive reviews online are prolific.
  13. Beautiful speakers. I had the same struggle with a lighter décor and dark boxes recently myself. We're spoilt for choice though and hopefully you'll find something which ticks the music and aesthetics boxes soon.
  14. I just removed my Gaia III footers from my Martin Logan Ethos in preparation for selling them. I moved them to my new Mordaunt Short Performance 6 speakers. Ideally I need Gaia II for the MS's but regardless, I immediately noticed a sweeter upper mid and treble and the music seems to float freer of the enclosures now. Going from an ESL to a metal dome for treble was a concern which was bourn out in listening however, I'm in a happy place again.
  15. Bunnings! Solid timber shelves, furniture feet, screws = done, and done cheap. All my gear sits on just such a shelf system.
  16. Some of my most enjoyable listening is done later in the evening and in consideration of those who've shuffled off to bed, I keep levels very low. I'm currently "auditioning" a pair of speakers I recently purchased and they perform remarkably well at low SPL.
  17. After having such a wonderful experience back in 1999 with some Mordaunt Short Performance 880 speakers, and with living in a small apartment now, I recently decided to hunt down a set of the newer Performance 6 speakers. And here they are: Only a teaser shot of them at this stage as I’m going over them to fix a couple of things before firing them up and comparing them to my Martin Logan Ethos. They certainly do look pretty and are beautifully made. They’ll match in nicely with all my silver Cyrus gear but, will they pass the music test? We will see…
  18. Further Information: Up for sale is my Cyrus DAC XP+. It’s a superb sounding unit and has been absolutely faultless. It features 2 x analogue inputs and 6 x digital inputs (4 x coaxial and 2 x optical) and both, RCA and XLR outputs (2 pairs of each) making it very versatile indeed. Add an optional PSX-R power supply (not included in this sale) for even more clarity and dynamics. Anyone looking for a quality preamp/DAC should note this is far from a standard factory dispatched DAC XP+. It's been re-worked extensively by Tim Wilkinson (ex-Crestmore head technician for Cyrus) at Tuned in Audio in Sydney while he also had my Mono X power amps for improvements. The work on this preamp alone cost $700 and the improvements over a standard unit are substantial and clearly audible. This is definitely no toy. This one is in Cyrus’ Quartz silver finish and will come Cyrus boxed and with remote. https://www.cyrusaudio.com/products/dac-xp/#downloads Top 2 pics are mine. Bottom pic is from the net.
  19. I used to use a set of these. Yes, not very efficient but with a good amp, can fill a large room and sound so sweet doing it. The newer versions never had the magic this version has.
  20. Tremendous speakers. Set up correctly, very little by way of conventional speakers come close.
  21. Yes, you can. I'd been considering this myself to help with cable rolling if the desire arose. In the end though, I purchased a rewire loom kit (silver litz) which ran in a single, continuous length right from cable tags to preamp. My rationale being that while some nice Nordost RCA cables would be nice between the table and pre, using a quality rewire kit in the first place with no connections would prove to be superior. But yes, you can do as you intend. Plenty of turntables offer similar already.
  22. They certainly were. Very well stocked too. I swear, I could get in so much trouble if I was let loose in there without consideration for things like food for the week.
  23. Had a trip to Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast this weekend. Visited my favourite used record shop on Bullcock St and while not exactly the cheapest place to buy from, I picked up Goucho by Steely Dan on MCA. Very easy to hear why this album is a favourite of so many. While the cover is a little dirty, the record itself is very clean and sounds quiet and dynamic which is a hallmark of MCA.
  24. I’ve recently had an older Cyrus integrated amp rebuilt. This included a full recapping and new output devices, among other things. it does sound a little closed in and restricted for now but I know these amps and fully expect it to relax much more as I use it. I also rebuild speakers and often recap the crossovers with similar results. just use your amp and it should improve after a few hours or so.
  25. Item: Mordaunt Short Performance 6 speakers Price Range: happy to chat Item Condition: New or Used Extra Info: Preferred in the silver option but will look at grey or black too.
