Absolutely right. Abbas make dacs that make music. Real natural, dynamic, pure tone music. Not hifi audio gymnastics here .

Further Information: This is an unmarked, virtually mint condition, less than 2 yrs old, hand made in Ukraine dac. Runs non-over sampling dual Burr Brown PCM63K dac chips and lots of vintage (mainly) components. 5687 /EZ35 output stage. Tubes are NOS. Build quality and attention to detail is extraordinary. This is an SE (special edition) which means it is built with premium parts including dac chips, compared to non SE versions, which are not and are cheaper. The sound it produces in my 107 db horn based speaker system is rich, textured, robust, full bass weight and presence, articulate, pure tone and very natural. Not midrange focused but midrange sounds very right especially on vocals. Is not warm, fuzzy and vintage sounding at all. Simply a beautiful natural, organic sounding dac. I have owned Phillips TDA 1541A double crown chip based dacs and still do, and this dac does not sound dissimilar. Clearly better than the Zanden 5000mkIV (TDA 1541A S2 dac chip) and MSB Power Dac I owned previously. Only selling as I have 2 dacs I chose very carefully and really like and can only really retain 1. 2 RCA (spdif) inputs so 2 digital sources (eg. cd transport and streamer) can be connected and selected easily via toggle switch 1. Careful packing, shipping and insurance is included in the price. Abbas lists DAC U SE features as: 1. Vintage EI power transformer for digital section 2. CS8414 SPDIF receiver 24/96 3. Shunt voltage regulators based on the germanuim transistors. 4. Vintage and modern audio components are used:allen bradley,philips,telefunken, Capacitors: Black Gate , Nichicon muse KX, Nichicon muse KZ Resistors: allen bradley, tantalum. 5. Board covered with gold and a special varnish for best sound 6. Stranded wires composed of vintage copper wires taken from klangfilm,telefunken,siemens sound equipment 7. I/U convertor based on the special low noise germanium transistor. As a consequence of this fact, an excellent reproduction of quiet sounds,at -60..-80db level 8. PIO output capacitors siemens from 1960s 9. Shortest signal path, the tube output stage with the low output imphedance (5687). 10. Non oversampling 11. Genuine dual PCM63K burr brown 12. One half rectifiers in digital section 13.Separate power transformer for analog sections. 14.Telefunken choke from 1930s in the power supply of output stage. 15. NOS GE 6X5GT rectifier 16. NOS Raytheon 5687WA power tube 17. 2 x RCA switch selectable inputs, 1 x RCA output 18. Outout is 4v RMS-enables direct drive into power amp

I have same green coloured board as well as the earlier red print versions from Earscience, and yes, I noticed an incremental improvement in resolution and general "lifting the veil" sort of effect. I continue to use them all the time in my system and have done for 10yrs (for green version) and 20yrs plus for the red version. I would certainly endorse for the price asked here. yes, room and set up of horns is crtical to get best sound quality they are capable of. Avantgardes being very efficient too amkes them specially sensitive too. I have just got some Duo Grossos and am finding that now. No real problems as such, just some fine tuning in the room I have avaialble now to use them. I did have asperations of Trios at some point but not so sure now. Duos set up right and fed with worthy front end some pretty special to me right through the frequency spectrum. Quite effortless sound.

I just stumbled across this owners discussion forum, which seems to have more than a decades worth of cob webs on it. Any Avantgarde owners out there who feel like chiming in with Avantgarde stuff? These are great horn speakers and deserve a bit of a 2022 voice here now. cheers ALan

There is a real magic with Avantgarde horns that is hard to go past. Those lucky enough to have the opportunity to hear Peter's Trio's should do so. Avantgarde horns expand music enjoyment horizons like few others. Beautiful Trios you have Peter, and the journey you have travelled with them to get them singing must bring a special joy. Further information: Reasonable offers will be considered. Fostex T500AmkII compression driver tweeters. These are top Fostex cd tweeter model. Rare to find available here in Australia. I have owned YL, GOTO, Raven ribbon and JBL cd tweeters and these are refined, sweet and musical like the YL/GOTO. Not lacking in body or tone. JBL are rougher and less refined by comparison (but also very decent tweeters). Fostex T500mkII dont typically appear on SNA. No need to import and pay international shipping, taxes etc. Alnico magnets, 8 Ohm, 103db, freq response 4KHz-35KHz, recommended crossover more than 7KHZ. Hi Michael, sorry I dont know more details than are on Marks blog hence my inclusion of parts of it. Hammond? Not often, only to buy special pieces of audio gear that comes up. When its for sale. I take a drive north and buy it. Did it recently for a CEC transport. An easy 1.5hr drive.

This one is super quiet on high efficiency horns and super reliable. @ things which are important to me.

Further information: This is a great amp and real value for the price. Has been very relaible and fault free since I have had it. Made by Mark Houston of Retro-Thermionic. Output is about 5W and used to run 100db horn mids and tweeters, which it does comfortably. Only selling because culling amp herd quite a bit. Would certainly buy another Retro-Thermionic amp again when needed. Very well put together, very quiet (even on 107db horns), and very reliable. Sophia Mesh plate 274B rectifier tube is an expensive option and enhances the sound along with NOS 6EM7's. Sounds rich and natural, seriously not outof touch with much more expensive tube amps I own or have owned. Builder is also readily avaialble in Melb if needed. Tube dampers in pic are not included in this sale. From Retro-Thermionic blog:- ....another 6EM7 power amplifier. This time some expensive and different parts were use in construction and a different internal layout was employed. The power transformer and choke are isolated top and bottom by rubber grommets. This ensures no AC vibration reaches the tubes.The initial PS filtering is preceded with a on-board power filter, a 4uf\400V Russian PIO cap and 20H\100mA Hammond choke. The HT is supplied by a Hammond power transformer and a very expensive 274B Sophia Electric mesh plate rectifier tube. The second stage of filtering is 47uf and 100uf electros. with a large limiting resistor ensure the amp is totally free from of hum and noise. All PS caps and cathode bypass caps are snubbed. Added sound deadening (bitumised Al) to bottom plate This amp sounds better than the last and I think it may be the Sylvania NOS 6EM7 tubes. Russian Teflon caps are used in the inter-stage coupling and once more large NP caps for the bypass on the power tubes.... Shipping to be covered by buyer.

Further information: Rarely seen on used market. In near new condition. A great versatile dsp for multiway speakers. This unit was built by the factory in 2017 and shipped to original owner, whom I bought it from. I never got around to using it. Original owner set it up and ran it in a mutliway horn system and had great sucess. Compares very favourably to dsp's costing many times more. Sorry but I cant answer too many questions on operation but know there is much info on net. Will pack safely and ship. Buyer to cover costs which will not be much.
