  1. JRiver uses about 1-2% of my CPU when playing a FLAC file, I know, I've checked. My CPU is an Intel I3-2100T Sandy Bridge, not even a present day quad core. When I read people talking about CPU load and sonic affliction, I'm really sorry, I can't help but giggle
  2. Perhaps JRiver 17 or the upcoming 18 sound as good or better than JPLAY alistairm, you'll never know if ya don't try.
  3. Volume control at 100% or disabled I take it? I can never get KS working in my system, just silence. I use to use ASIO4ALL but now use WASAPI.
  4. As do I. By the way before snodger posts his result, do you notice any potential flaws in his HIFI system\setup that may inhibit his evaluation? What about you DoggieHowser? Just looking for an honest answer, no malice intended. Cheers.
  5. It integrates well with JRiver, takes the usability quirks out of it. Great way to compare sound quality between the two products as well, cause you can switch quite fast between them in JRiver. Like I said before, when I did, I didn't hear one iota of difference.
  6. [quote name= al' timestamp='1346548172' post='757146] suprised no one has mentioned the legend tikandi or big reds partnered with deqx. As an owner, I'm not. The fact that DEQX digitises all analog inputs probably does an average audiophile's head in. Plus you really can't amp swap\rotate with this kind of system, so it offers little potential for "upgraditis fun". It's probably not something your audiophile fellows will envy Cheers.
  7. OK I gave it go, thanks for letting us know. It sounded identical to Jriver MC to me. I switched back and forth at least 10 times but there was nothing to be heard to my ears/system. I used JRiver MC with it's volume control disabled. Cheers.
  8. I'm not saying SB devices are useless (I've owned two in the past remember), comon get a grip. For many people they are simply the best valued component you can buy, I understand that. I simply stated my opinion that they are better alternatives, granted a bit more expensive and considerably more work to get going.
  9. All of those things are possible with a HTPC. PC's and laptops can be low powered devices these days. Sonic differences between a SB and a PC are below human threshold IMO, especially when using such devices as digital transports. Cheers.
  10. You bet baby! And it has a 58 inch pansonic TV to display "stuff" Edit: I don't actually have a touch screen to control it, but you could have and it could be much larger then what's on the Touch. I personally use an IR remote and an application on my android phone for control. Why would I want to use my feet and walk over to my player to do something?
  11. A HTPC/laptop running JRiver MC has far better usability/functionality and pretty much anything else I can think of than a Squeezebox. I've owned a SB3 and a SBT by the way. For me they were a great stepping stone products to get into computer based audio but I'd be amazed if I ever bought another one. Cheers.
  12. You don't need to be there. If you rip both versions to a computer in a lossless format you can then use Audacity to find out if they are bit identical or not. If they are then they're the same master, if not then they're not. This is one of the main pluses of having music on a computer rather than CD, you can actually analyse the digital information. Cheers.
  13. But I didn't try to do that! If you take the time to actually look what's going on rather than acting like the guardian angel fanboi, you'll notice that I responded to mr-happy-pants post, not the OP's. I care not to respond to the OP's. In case you don't really get the gist of it, in a forum there are typically threads within a thread. Please don't tell me what I'm doing or trying to do, especially when you're wrong.
  14. Well I can't speak for the others but if reporting actual facts from the manufacturers website is considered "pollution", then you've confused me more than you normally do. Remember, rock n roll ain't noise "pollution"
  15. Think it depends on the individual speaker on the level of change. Remember, some things are measurable but taken in isolation are pretty much inaudible or at a bees dick level. Anyway it seems ML speakers are suppose to be run in when you get them. From: http://www.lenehanau...3-speakers.html As with all the ML series the Xover is hand built and hardwired. After run in each Xover is handtuned to each host loudspeaker in front of a measurement microphone to a virtually zero tolerance. Each Xover is subtly different to every other ML Xover because each Loudspeaker itself is an individual unto itself The end result though is imaging and soundstaging perfection. Cheers.
  16. I'd suggest you upgrade to 7 (the best Windows ever) while you still can.
  17. Oh boy, that advertisement was painful. Enough to turn me off ever wanting to hear one of these "things" Cheers.
  18. I still find using my Logitech Harmony 1100i programmable IR remote the best way to control JRiver. I have programmed buttons to start JRiver and another button to close it from any screen. I use LM Remote Keymap software to do this.
  19. Where the sound repruduction capabilities of the system, can fool or nearly fool a human listener into thinking they are listening to the real thing. A bird singing sounds like a bird. A human voice sounds like a voice. I think the reason for this is partly technical and partly psychological. I use to experience this too with my previously owned lower HI-FI systems. With my current HIGHER-FI system, everything sounds better through it. Car and headphones are well behind the overall experience of my stereo. I feel fortunate and a bit lucky that what I've got seems to work very well for me. Cheers.
  20. nothing1, your specs sound like complete overkill to me for a HTPC. Granted you want to do a bit of gaming, but your probably going to make a far noiser PC because of it. Out of the box ATI video cards are usually better than NVidia for doing Blu-ray (23.976Hz) based content, well as far as I've read anyway. But NVidia based cards are a bit more tweakable. I think your already owned sound card will be fine.
  21. I noticed a Legend Kurlette the other day going cheap for $690: http://www.legendspe.../Clearance.html http://www.legendspe...u/kurlette.html
  22. Hi cada, sounds like you're a bigger JRiver user than even me, I didn't think that was possible Just wondering if you could use Gizmo instead of Webremote for better controlling/streaming results? In case you didn't know there are a couple of excellent Theater View skins and a new one on the way from here (http://x-plain.blogspot.com.au). I use The Blue Puzzle Skin which makes JRiver look more eye candy-ish that XBMC IMO.
  23. Windows WASAPI which is available on Vista and 7 has been called Microsoft's version of ASIO. It offers the equivalent bit perfect peformance of ASIO by bypassing the Windows Kernal Mixer. Having said that I use ASIO4ALL with JRiver because it seems to give less pops and clicks, especially when changing sample rate. Cheers.
  24. Your speakers and room are the weak link in your system, just like everyone else. If you want real improvement change one and/or both of them.
  25. I'm not sure if this is now "off topic" or not. I respect you proft and what I'm about to say/ask is for the future good of SNA. How should I have worded my post in a more empathic way? Can you provide a reworded example please? It would help me and perhaps others learn what you mean. I'm completely comfortatble with public scrutiny. Cheers.
