  1. How would this compare SQ wise in comparison to my Marantz SR7300 for powering my front speakers?
  2. Yeh I see it as a bargain to. Honestly if I was in the market for a $3000 projector atm (give or take) it would be at the top of my list. Personally I think it's a fantastic projector and deserves more credit than it gets. I think the main issue again though is that it isn't QUITE as cheap as you can get some of the 720p LCDs for.
  3. If you'd post I'd snap it up like right now I could transfer funds this second, but noooooooooooooooo... Cmon I'll take the lot minus the screen - you should be able to sell that fine!
  4. You're definately not going to get an XG or a G70 then! You're best bet for that price would be a Sony 12xx series projector. I used to have one till my room conditions changed and it was just too big. But they are amazing projectors for the money. You may find a bargain PG for that price, but they are normally high $1000's ($1700+). Honestly though for that price range the PG would probably have considerable tube wear and hours, and also potential problems. I'd personally be looking for a good condition 12xx
  5. Hey all, currently, after selling my CRT projector a few months ago I'm pretty keen to get back into projection. I'm looking to use my new projector for a range of things: Xbox 360 - 35% Digital TV - 15% Xvid TV Eps - 20% DVDs - 30% I'm looking to get back into it cheaply and am currently looking to spend around $1000 (up to perhaps $1300). I'm currently debating between a few options. A current generation 480p DLP (better blacks, lower resolution) A Panasonic AE500 (older, average blacks, higher resolution, good colours) A Sanyo Z2 (older, average blacks, lots of "issues", higher resolution, sharper than AE500) So I'm looking for a few opinions as to which way I should go? I'm currently leaning towards the AE500 or Z2 (probabaly the panasonic). I do however value blacks very highly (I came from CRT's after all!) and was wondering as it has been a few years since I auditioned these older models how they stack up against current generation cheap DLP's or 720p LCDs? So help me out guys! Thanks, Adam p.s. If anyone is selling anything that may suit in this price range, yell out!
  6. Well if your TV can defintely accept 720p via the RGBHV connection you can get a regular 360 VGA cable then get a VGA -> RGBHV breackout cable from jaycar and hook that up and set it to output 1280x720 from the 360
  7. Yeh is SHOULD, can't guarantee it though, but I can say I've seen a couple of these running both at 1920x1200 and they were beautiful, big, but beautiful! EDIT: Just noticed in the datasheet it boesnt list a res @ lower than 50hz... still, should accept it though...
  8. APPARENTLY within the next month or so it will be reasonably common to be able to score these at ~$2000. So keep an eye out guys. I can confirm I am still MASSIVELY happy with this panel, perfect 1080p, perfect even for everyday desktop use, reasonable blacks (not great but good) andgreat response time. I can't go back to playing Counterstrike Source at 19inches anymore... Oh and Ajax9000 I'll post the EDID hopefully tonite or tommorow (sorry I took so long to get back to you about that!). Thanks, Adam
  9. Guarantee (sp...? lol) it accepts a solid 1080p via DVI from my PC up to 72hz 1:1 pixel mapping Fantastic screen. Miss the blacks of my old CRT Projector but hey 1080p from my pc is fantastic
  10. Haha - yeh figured. Worth the 10 seconds to research it though! Im thinking I'm gonna stick with 720p for $3000US...
  11. Hey all, you may or may not know I got a Pyrod 1080p LCD a few weeks back. So far it is fantastic, BUT it doesn't have fantastic deinterlacing capabilites, so 1080i from the 360 looks pretty average (its better inputting 1366x768 via VGA). Basically I figure with solid motion adaptive deinterlacing of 1080i it SHOULD look better than 1366x768 being scaled by the TV. I guess there are potentially a few options - an external scaler such as the VP30 (how does this handle 1080i -> 1080p from the 360? Also - biggest issue - EXPENSIVE), a cheap external deinterlacer (any out there? any that are cheap?), a component input card for the PC that can take 1080i and rescale to any PC resolution (i.e. 1920x1080p)? So... do which way would you guys direct me in? Whats the relative pricing of each of these options? And finally do you think it will improve the picture quality above what I'm seeing? Thanks, Adam
  12. Hey - I've hit the same limits as saturated with the Pyrod - can push her past 72hz stabily. Seems those ever so insane timings just dont quite fit with it
  13. Well I've got my 7900gt installed now (volt modded and overclocked already...) and its feeding the display a perfect 1920x1080p 72hz Very happy - and obviously very happy with th performance increase to!
  14. I'm pretty sure the PyroD is actually a copy of the BenQ - same panel I think...
  15. Very nice - now running at 71.998 on my X800XL in about an hour I'll test the 7900gt
  16. Only things hooked up atm = HTPC and Xbox 360. I'm reserving judgement on whether its a perfect as purely TV til I've hooked up my HD STB, which is currently downstairs, via component as I imagine this is going to be the standard setup for most people. But in my situation for the 360 + HTPC (with digital TV card, etc) it is fantastic
  17. Bahaha - perhaps if Sony didn't produce close to the worst plasmas on the market we'd see a different story. Both have their advantages but this is just a rediculous article...
  18. Hey man, I'm an image quality freak. After coming from a CRT projector I found it a tough transation to deal with blacks that were not perfect! Saying that, this unit is pretty decent - shadow detail is fantastic only let down is the actual fade to black level - it's only ever dark grey not a perfect black (which is just the nature of lcds!). It's as good as most LCD's I've seen - the new Bravia's and Samsungs however seem to have a slightly better absolute black level. Light leakage is non existant (my old LCD monitor suffered greatly from it) and response time is fantastic - no image smearing. Overall picture quality is FANTASTIC from a GOOD SOURCE - Channel 9 HD, 1080i/p clips from the net, etc. SD content is good not great when close up (my SD plasma is a whole heap better at this), but from a typical viewing distance it is fine. In comparison to other 1080p panels I've seen - Acer/Benq/Phillips it is very comparable. Promise me you won't go by how they have it setup in store - it was awful at the store here in Adelaide. With a good source and proper 1080p from a PC it is a fantastic TV/monitor. Only issue is with the component input but I don't know if that's my 360's fault or the actual component input on the unit...
  19. Ouch - that's a ton! I'd be taking it back man. My 1920x1080 lcd has 1 and im swapping it over - even thats enough to bug me!
  20. It most definately is BUT I'll be using it for both gaming and digital tv from the pc. The digital TV will want 50hz to eliminate juddering and gaming will love 70hz... I was hoping for 75hz which would have been perfect for both!
  21. In terms of screen brightness this guy's pretty intense to - fantastic when sitting back on the couch but a bit overwhelming when using it as a monitor. As for refresh rates - I just tried with my X800XL and it's happy with 50hz through to 70hz, doesn't like above ~71hz though Also it actually is reporting the 1920x1080 @ 60hz or whatever signal I send it so it definately takes it
  22. Well, not that anyone seems to care by the response to this thread BUT I just got 1080p working perfectly via DVI from my ATI card! I installed new drivers and bang - perfect 1080p! So I'm now VERY impressed with this screen - been palying way too much counter strike on it already still probably going to upgrade though - the X800XL just doesnt keep up at this res
  23. SUCCESS!!!! My mate currently has his pc hooked up to it (7800gtx) and it getting a perfectly clean 1920x1080 with no overscan - its sooooooooo much clearer and gaming/videos etc are fantastic Very happy - only real let down now is the 360 doesnt look perfect (pretty damn awesome though). Really wish it had a better component input so as to allow 1080i to be hooked up to it from the 360. Hmm now do i keep it or take it back - I'm grabbing a 7900gt tommorow, I think I'll keep it... bah if only the 360 hook up was perfect!!!!!!
  24. Havent tried component yet (other than for the 360 - which it took 720p fine). As for the service menu/manual thats the biggest problem I'm having right now!!! I NEED IT!!! NOW!!! haha I'm really keen to find it - the BenQ 3750 is a very similar monitor so Im thinking that would do the job to...
