  1. I’ve got a copy of ZZ Top’s Elimator which had dreadful haze on it. Hit both sides with a couple of passes with this stuff. Autoglym bumper and trim gel. Used a good quality microfibre professional detailing cloth. And I’ll be damned. It actually works. It isn’t a perfect fix but the difference is clearly audible. Sounded like it was played through cotton wool before and it’s now far more crisp and clear.
  2. Further information: Lovely condition, includes remote control. Dual pre-outs makes adding a subwoofer or two very easy. Excellent MM phono stage. Selling due to upgrade to an RC-1572. Pickup preferred but will post at buyers cost. Note: The front fascia does have some slight fading but still an attractive piece. 3. If you can't get (or don't want) a physical copy, Tidal Hifi sounds really really good. Plus you get an additional 8 minutes of filler tracks that couldn't make the 80 minute cutoff. In terms of production, they spared no expense. Bob Ludwig is still the best in the business and you can hear it. What I'm going to do once I get another kid & wife free listening time (rare af ), is play tracks from Lateralus and Fear Inoc and see which sounds better. Anybody remember HDCD? My player supports it, and Lateralus was one of the best HDCD albums ever made.
  4. Ordered the limited edition CD via Discogs and it arrived earlier this week. Artwork and packaging - knocked it out of the park yet again. I've been listening to the album on Tidal constantly and I can say the CD definitely sounds better. Plus I simply "had" to have a physical copy. Fark.Me.Dead there's some bass in this one. Special 40s lapped it up and begged for more. Sounds far, far better than 10,000 , I always thought the production sucked on that album. Clinical, muddy, and no real depth. I'm still soaking all the layers up with FI. Is it Tool's best work? Dunno yet, but it's an absolutely impeccable performance. Standout track: Invincible. Highly Commended: Chocolate Chip Trip. If you want to give your system a complete pummelling, play these 1-2. Danny Carey's genius is on full display.
  5. Too expensive. Buy an M140i while you still can. Just as quick, more practical.
  6. You can get a 6 speed manual JCW, no problems there. Might be a lengthy wait if there's no stock onshore though. As for a 24hr test drive, most Mini dealerships would be more than happy to oblige. Have you also considered a Cooper S JCW pack? You'll save a bucketload, they're HEAPS of fun to drive, yes you can get a manual as per above, and they have all the cosmetic bits of the JCW so they look the part. The only real caveat is a slightly less powerful engine. As a daily driver, yes I'd take a Cooper S all day.
  7. JCW will smoke the 220i all day every day. 170kw versus 135. I work for BMW and have driven both at length so I feel I'm qualified to comment. Two completely different types of cars, so comparing them is an interesting question. Do you want a comfortable stylish cruiser (220i), or a pocket rocket? (JCW). The fuel consumption on the JCW Mini is appalling, at best. Throw whatever claimed figures at the wall, they're bullshit. If you drive it in any kind of spirited fashion, expect 350-400km per tank. 220i wins this test hands down. I took a JCW to the gold coast scenic rim for a weekend and had a grin from ear to ear. The handling is absolutely superb and point to point, for the money there's not much quicker you can buy. As a daily driver though I'd pass, this would be a weekend toy. Fuel consumption too crap, exhaust drone would get a bit much after a while, and the rides too firm even in comfort setting. If you can live with a diesel, the 220D actually drives much better than the petrol. Reason is simple, far more low down torque. It's far easier to kick out the tail with the diesel engine versus the petrol, although both are willing if asked. To conclude, the choice is entirely up to you. If the JCW wins, hold out for a few more months until the next model is released. 170kw jumps to 220kw (although it's much much more expensive) - and I'm pretty sure they're going down the awd path. This will also mean the current F56 will be on runout so could be some tempting deals around. 220i or D is a fine daily driver, if a little plain. You're constantly reminded it's a 2 series. This means manual seat adjustment, lots of hard plastic and unless you go silly with the options list, the standard features are pretty frugal. Buy a demo - premium selection, if you can find one.
  8. If you can afford it, GTechnic Crystal Serum Ultra is one of the best ceramic coatings money can buy. Another thing I’ll mention is this: a ceramic coating is only as effective as the person whom applies it. So many cowboys think they can do it, but can’t. The paint needs to be absolutely gun barrel straight and free from swirls, holograms, other such marks, otherwise you’re simply wasting your time. And....you only get one chance once the stuff goes on so if they fudge it, usually the only way to get a coating off is by wet sanding. Do your research on the provider. GTechnic will only sell to authorized detailers that have passed their own certification levels.
  9. The subs blend in remarkably well, got them rolled off around 40hz I think. Very diverse taste, had some classic ZZ Top (HDCD) on this morning. But could just as easily have been Bill Evans, Tool, Marvin Gaye, Groove Armada, Kraftwerk, Diana Krall etc. I like to think my system is an all rounder. Speakers most definitely are.
  10. Got the RP-850 back from some much needed TLC. Cart and tone arm not aligned properly, greased up the belts and platter, and fitted brand new RCAs. Sounds lovely and has stoked the vinyl flames again. Next up is to throw an orto 2M blue on it, and a better preamp. But am content for now [emoji41]
  11. No idea mate. Customer trade in and we got it cheap. I've driven plenty of M135i's before, this one is nothing like them. Upgrades are chalk and cheese. Feels more taut, more urgent. I have no idea what power it runs, it definitely isn't stock. Obvious when you drive it.
  12. I haven't read this entire thread as it's 35 pages long... But earlier today I did have a quick squirt of a 2013 M135i with some pretty tasty upgrades. K&N filter Eichbach springs Resonator delete Bigger vented front brakes It's a weapon..... Sounds glorious and goes like a freshly neutered cat. The F20 series M cars are going to be treasured. Buy one while you still can, end of an era sadly.
  13. This s....box ? '89 EA Falcon series II wagon Actually.....I did get a fair bit of cred for it as it had a 5 speed manual. The air con didn't work, the indicators only sometimes worked, and the head gasket blew 6 times in 150,000km. I don't miss it.
  14. Lazy morning. Testing my new digital front end. Tidal hifi master, Mac air, AQ jitterbug and DF red, evergreen RCA. Impressive. Pleased I bought the jitterbug it definitely makes a difference.
  15. I actually bought the OPs DFR and couldn’t be happier with it. Got what I wanted, when I wanted it, for a very decent price. Didn’t have to wait close to a month for something cheap, flimsy albeit ridiculous value for money. Nobody has brought up the issue of noise/jitter yet. For something worth all of an Aussie lobster (twenty bucks), I wouldn’t be surprised if this little dac reeks of it. Happy to be proved wrong however.
  16. Ok I have done a quick bit of google. I would have to assume this is a 0.5 version. It runs very warm, which is what a class A product is supposed to do. I don’t know if or how you can physically check to confirm?
  17. Item: Perreaux SXH-1 Class A Headphone Amplifier Location: Brisbane Price: No longer for sale, decided to keep Item Condition: Excellent, some tiny marks on top edge of front facia but I will try and improve them Reason for selling: Simply don't use it. I want to buy an amp with built in DAC Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only - can post at buyers expense Extra Info: The Head-Fi crowd will know exactly what this is. Awesome class A headphone amp, now becoming rare and hard to find. Pictures:
  18. Yep it is an RP850 I'm getting. Undecided on phono stages but my brother has an old Pro-Ject Phonobox that first got him off the mark. It will enable "sound" , so to speak but yeah I'll be dropping it in favour of something better in the none too distant future.
  19. Okay where do I start. Very humbled at so many excellent replies, this thread definitely got up and flew. No, I 100% did not intend to start an A versus D debate, and it doesn't look like it's gone that way. I've got a 1k strong CD library and really don't buy many brand new titles anymore. I do look around every now and then for cheapies but if I'm buying new plastic, most of the time it will be remasters of classics. (Hurry up and release the Mezzanine pack Massive Attack - thanks, happy New Year). My digital front end, save for a DAC to tap into Tidal Hifi - that'll come in a few months hopefully - is very solid. The Rotel 991-AE HDCD player is a tank. Feed it a decent quality HDCD encoded disc ** - and I'll just add a subnote here, not every HDCD recording actually takes advantage of the added bandwidth. It can be tricky to tell if it's properly encoded but some discs the light will shine but in actual fact it's not utilising 20 bits at all. Sorry where was I. The 991-AE has dual 20bit DACs, and on appropriate recordings it sounds ridiculously good. The dither setting is interesting. I don't know any other player that offers this type of customisation. Most SNAers would know what dither is - you can control the level of digital noise fed through the signal path on a setting from 1 to 7. 1 has close to bugger all and is colder than a Kyneton winter. Settings 2 and 3 you start to warm up, and with my current system config I find 4 to be a very big sweet spot. Any higher setting the music sounds hard bright and compressed. So yeah, digital wise I've reached a very comfortable ledge in terms of value/performance ratio. I don't upgrade my gear often as I simply can't afford to. Buy once buy right has always been the motto. As mentioned I do want to add a DAC as I'm loving Tidal HiFi to bits, it just keeps getting better and better. At the moment it's the sole domain of the car/commute to work. And doing a kick ass job. As I type I've just been PMd by another member here whom lives close by, and has offered a vintage Rotel manual deck for sale. Sorry but the model number escapes me. I'm head over heels for it and it's being offered for a song. Add a half decent phono preamp and Roberts yer father's brother. For that money, I'm happy to give it a dabble and see if I get bitten. No doubt I will. I'm not after all out quality at the moment, if I like what I hear - this will be another learning $$ curve for me. Bring it on!! ?
