  3. These guys were offered up in need of attention, my cousin down in Canberra snapped them up and replaced the surrounds and the cross overs and ordered new cloth from the states. The cabinets had seen a bit of abuse, coffee cup rings, over watered plant stains, sun damage, some corners missing and major swelling problems to one in particular. Still anything in the 43XX series is worth saving. Sanded back the dried out oil and managed to get rid of all the rings and water marks back filled the swollen partical board with

  9. When it comes to great HiFi purchasing advice, look no further, you have arrived by joining SNA. I really like the following: The variety of gear that comes up, The quality of said gear, The low prices that can be secured, The ability to get unbiased advice, The facility to sell your existing gear to fund your journey, And, most importantly interacting with others of like mind. I like reading the great bargains and the joy they help promote. Just got to watch those late night red-wine fuelled trigger pulls....

  14. Further information: Selling Sansui AU-222 which has been fully recapped and serviced by an audio professional (tubularbells) and the full service & recap alone costs me close to $400. In addition, I replaced old rusty top panel with plywood side panels and brand new 3mm thick custom acrylic plate on top so it can be seen inside (I love seeing amp inside). Side panels painted with gloss black and top edge left without painting where acrylic plate sits on so I can see plywood grain. I love this type of DIY look but if new owner does not like the plywood

  21. Interesting thread read .. My journey over 45 years has taken me from Vinyl to Tidal Streaming. And I still have everything in between .. Lol ... As a hoarder I still have all my vinyl, CD's, SACD and a huge collection stored on FLAC and high MP3's. Nowadays I play Tidal 99% and have evolved thru many DAC's and are at the stage that I cannot replicate the sound quality of my vinyl unless I spend a fair bit upgrading cartridges and Phono amp, happy enough with my decks, RP8 and Linn LP12. I listen to music a lot more than ever, hours per day, tha

  24. Between my power box and the outlets used for my hifi, lay 35 metres of cable. So I’m wondering how changing the last metre from the power outlet to the hifi components could make a difference. In my previous residence I had a sparky install a dedicated 15 amp cable direct to the hifi outlets. 😖 no audible difference, but I felt better. So yeah, maybe it is just the last metre that counts. 😁

  31. A daily ritual here also and one thing I really like is the (relatively ) new innovation of having the price of the listing in the little orange bubble. It does save time knowing something is $20 K so I don't click on it and pursue it further. Thank you @Marc

  37. I don't consider CDs to be "oldschool" - they still seem to be "newschool" to me! (Edison cylinders and 78's are oldschool to me, and 8-track cartridges). I'm not interested in streaming. I don't trust that I will be able to listen to what I want in the future. So I prefer to have physical records and CDs. I do have a lot of music on hard disk as well (FLAC, and mp3 when I couldn't get lossless); again, I'm in control of the content. I do acknowledge that streaming can be convenient and does give good access to a variety of music. If it works for you, go for it!

  42. You may wish you hadn't said that. Anyway my advice would be try without buying first. If you buy something, then since you have already bought it you will be convinced it sounds better. I don't use fancy power or digital cables in my hifi and it's slightly more expensive than yours. Spend more money on electronics and less on wire.
