  4. Ill agree with you on that. I ended up purchasing the system and speakers and have it set up. Now im just having fun switching things in and out with my existing Schiit Audio system to see what sounds best. Its like new school vs old school. The Wilsons were the biggest improvement. They are amazing!

  5. Couldn’t find a dedicated thread for upcoming Panasonic OLEDs, so thought I’d start one. Below article mentions pricing & release estimates for their 2019 range... https://www.techradar.com/news/panasonic-unveils-australian-2019-av-range-teases-transparent-oled-tv Is anyone else eyeing off a Pana or other brand OLED this year?

  6. I have been using Absolare preamp and 845SET monoblocks driving Voxativ speakers for several years and can vouch for the extraordinary build and performance. I have also heard the Absolare integrated in many systems all with superb results – most recently at Munich High-End last month. This is as good as Integrated amps get. GLWTS!! It looks to have been well looked after.

  9. Hello Martin, Torben Ulrich was similar to Rosewall in that he played well into his late 30s and early 40s and I was playing Metallica's Black album for someone here only a few days ago, but didn't think of Lars being Torben's son. I was fortunate to see all those players you mentioned above play live, but with the exception of Arthur Ashe. It was a great era of tennis, especially for Australian players and for me, Sedgman and McGregor led the way, followed by Hoad and Rosewall. Emerson and Stolle, Newcombe and Roche..............a few very good doubles combinations there! Cheers, Keith

  13. Hello Martin, of course it wasn't just Rod Laver as a professional who was not able to play those four slam tournaments, which were then amateur events. A couple of standouts for me is Ken Rosewall and Pancho Gonzales, both of whom dominated the professional ranks for many years and thus regarded as the best in the world for those years, however, they could not compete in the grand slam tournaments until 1968, when the game went open. I am a big fan of Ken Rosewall and a few brief stats about his career show that Ken turned pro at age 23 and he had 4 grand slam tournaments to his name at that time. He was not able to play those slams again until 1968 when he won the French that year, beating Laver in the final. He then went on to win another 3 slam tournaments, the last being the 1972 Australian Open at the age of 37. We will never know, but I often wonder how many grand slam tournament he would have won during that 11 year hiatus. Cheers, Keith

  15. Hand built for Tony Moore to demo his ambience speakers, good condition. Price $400 Pick up Brookvale NSW or payment before delivery. I used this with an AMC amp with tannoy bookshelves to replace my denon avr. I only use 2CH stereo for both music and movies now as I prefer the sound. The preamp gave the ss amp a nice warm revealing tube sound. There are high and low filter outputs along with the standard outputs selectable by front dial plus a volume dial. Uses Phillips m8136 tube but could really benefit from a good pair of 12au7. Also has a phono stage which I have not used.

  23. Couldn't agree more, even his Bad Lieutenant: New Orleans with Nicholas Cage had that typical Herzog pacing that made it goodly strange. I always had a little trouble with the sound quality of Herzog's films, the levels but it could have been a limitation of the times. He thought he was one of the very few and best directors for using music in on film and again I thought his use was a little overpowering but again maybe it was the levels. I think Spike Lee may have taken a lead from Werner, his use of music was also primary and seemingly exaggerated in counterpoint to particular scenes, and I love Spike Lee. I'd be interested in other's opinions on this. Special shout out to SBS who introduced me to so much film, I remember Herzog and Fassbinder, KInski and Schygulla and so many others.

  24. Gold > Ecstasy of Gold > Ennio Morricone > Spaghetti Western > Sergio Leone > Once Upon A Time in The West Thi Sergio Leone epic is the definition of Western genre for me. The best work Henry Fonda has done. Charles Bronson is standard vigilante Charles, however Jason Robards and Claudia Cardinale really steal the show for me, And those Sergio Leone cinemascope eyes/face close up shots. Morricones music is sublime.

  30. Simplicity in a music setup is liberating. I went from a multi component setup to a pair of Devialet Phantom Golds and do not miss the tweaking and upgrading of the various items. Nice to not have to look at which item to upgrade next, how to improve components with new PSU, which cable, tube to tweak etc. Can still do tweaks, but focused on improving the music not the components...

  32. Hi @Vladas, In the description you describe these ""as brand new". In the last photo it looks like there is a chip in the cabinet about a foot up from rear side. Is that a chip? I'm interested but want pristine cabinets. Thanks, Rod.

  35. Yes, definitely a memorable event and one we didnt really understand very well but was a big worry. I spent a week in Kiev in around 91 as a last minute decision as I was in Warsaw at the time. The entire trip is etched in my mind, from the 24 hour train trip from Warsaw to having to bribe "private" hotels to let us stay (in US dollars of course) , bribing restaurants to get service and bribing rail officials to get a ticket out(which was not successful) . I had to get embassy assistance in the end!!

  36. watched episode one... fantastic... I cleary remember the time as a kid we were on school camp... teachers came back from the local town shops one morning and with a newspaper. laid it out on the bonnet of the 4wd... we all clamoured around and read the headline. I can remember the mood ... complete silence from all... reading the article it was like another atomic bomb had been dropped.... thoughts going through as a kid... gee is this the end of the world ? the significance of this reached far and wide... even impacting us down here... stuck away in the wilderness in a camp far away from everything. very well made ! fantastic acting. the scenes, scale, settings. HBO are really masters of this stuff ! looking forward to episode two...

  37. Well said. In addition, I’d downgrade from M6cd to the M3cd and save another $2k for the speaker budget. With that extra cash, I’d be heading straight to a my local Harbeth retailer and picking up a pair of SHL5+ and stands. A great match for the MF M6si. And add a BlueSound Node 2i for streaming duties.

  40. Scored Kate Bush’s live album, Before the Dawn, at what I thought was a steal, and have to say I am loving it. Sensational sound quality and a great performance. https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/22467-before-the-dawn/amp/ I have since seen it at JB for $45 and direct from warner’s Web store for $40. For four records. Strongly recommended!

  42. I went on the opening night and I didn't think it was that good. I went back today and there was literally double the stock that was available on opening night. Opening night seemed to have a lot of people after the rare books, something I am not interested in. So if you haven't been already there is still a massive amount of stock available.

  45. Gidday Andy, You're in a great situation with $20K to spend. I wouldn't rush into any purchase. Being in Bateman's Bay you're in the vicinity of Legend Speakers guru and forum member Rod Crawford. https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/profile/108824-legend/ I would definitely pop up to Nowra and audition his active model Tikandi BE, and the passive Kama. You could also discuss your listening room - the most important factor in determining sound quality. Why Musical Fidelity? Why Bluetooth? (Bluetooth receivers can be added to anything, so that's easy). Personally, if I was starting from scratch I would buy Australian. Our brands are equal to any international brands, and offer much better value. That includes the Gieseler Fein II DAC. I would get in touch with Clay Gieseler and see what else is in the works. The Legend Tikandi (with DEQX room correction and remote-controlled preamp) coupled with a Gieseler Fein II would be a formidable system. Just add a good CD transport and you're set, probably under budget with factory-direct pricing. An ethernet connection for high-quality streaming would then also be possible. In my opinion, this would give you vastly better sound quality than a CD player with digital inputs, not to mention the speaker combo you're considering.
