Item: LENCO L75 JEAN NANTAIS TURNTABLE Location: Melbourne, Australia. Item Condition: Used, Excellent. Reason for selling: Downsizing, running out of room, surplus, can do with money Price: $3,000 + post Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Bank deposit, wire transfer. Extra Info: Original Lenco L75 Jean Nantais turntable. Overall size is 390 wide x 445 deep x 185 high, weighing 23kg. Complete with 3 Black Diamond Racing cones as feet. You can choose MK3 or Mk4. unfortunately, no armboard as such as designed to be used with separate arm base setup with no restriction to placement or setup possibilities. Piano gloss black finish on plinth. The finish of the deck is metallic black, and not as glossy as the plinth finish. Very neat condition indeed. Bearing is upgraded bronze housing and ceramic bearing from Micro Sound Co, Lithuania - I don't think they are available any longer. The platter is cast zinc type. Also included is the hard platter mat direct from Jean Nantais. This is the same mat he uses on his Reference turntable. Not sure if he still sells these alone, but it's a fantastic upgrade. I have compared it directly with the Goldmund mat and it definitely doesn't fall shy. Goldmund call it metacrylate, but seems to a fancy name for pespex or acrylic? Not sure if I missed anything, but if you need any further information, just ask. Photos: As follows (with a bit of dust):4 points

Hi The past- LEONARD COHEN: POPULAR PROBLEMS (CD) This one sounds real nice on CD on my system. The mix of Cohen, female backing vocals, violins, guitars, etc just seems to work beautifully for me. The present- NEIL YOUNG CRAZY HORSE: REACTOR (LP) One of Neil's rock albums. Its a beauty. The future- Who can tell?3 points

Hi, As as I mentioned I decided to have a change in direction. I think that once in a while it is beneficial to roll the dice and rekindle the music journey. I purchased a pair of Marten Django XLs. They are a much larger speaker but having read the reviews of them on Stereophile I have been keeping my eyes out for a pair and I took the plunge. It’s now time to dive back into my CD collection. I will miss the Harbeths they really are a unique speaker but life is too short to not make changes, Matthew3 points

@DMax Nope, not really trying to convince anyone to buy. Just sharing my honest opinion. If you read the link I posted above you’d realise that I was quite passionate about Pandora and was thinking of upgrading the Pandora to the Eclipse version until I realised the upgrade cost ($9000AUD) is out of my budget. I’m sure @Darren69‘s Ayon Sigma is a wonderful piece as I’m using Ayon S-10 and I’ve been quite impressed. Having said that I do occasionally miss the deep emotional engagement that Pandora gave me. Not sure about you @DMax, but I think each DAC has their strengths and weaknesses(in relative terms) even the high end ones.2 points

'The brother had a Guzzi Le Mans, 18 inch front, have to say the most uncomfortable bike I've ridden, and the clutch was a pain to use in traffic, sounded good though, later on he bought a TLS and we went out to QR for a trackday, the rear end used to wobble and slide a lot, apparently the rotary? shock was the cause, don't think Suzuki persisted with the idea, it's a pity cos the bike itself was great2 points

KEF LSX I have hunted high and low but couldn’t find any LSX reviews or opinions from actual customers so I thought this might encourage some others to contribute. My reference speakers are hybrid 505 mini ESL panels driven by Hypex nCore OEM amps and KEF LS50’s driven by a Holton amp. I paid under $1700 delivered for my LSX set. Firstly, these gorgeous little speakers have their own sound, they are not neutral but they are very musical and have enormous mid bass detail. Whereas the LS50’s were super clean and the ESL’s can’t really be compared because they don't seem to have a 'sound'. I didn't buy these for myself, but so the whole family could listen to their own selections without having to figure out how to use my gear. Setup is simple. There are only a few lines of instructions in the single sheet user manual explaining how to 'Plug them in to a power point and switch them on'. Once set up, I was able to use my Samsung phone with a pair of free KEF apps.an iPad and MacBook pro with AirPlay to control the speakers playing Spotify. Other sources can be selected such as my Aries Mini server where I could select all my audio files. Unfortunately, they just display as an alphabetically sorted list, but they do sound excellent. With Airplay, I could choose Spotify Connect or Spotify via Airplay and Aries Mini streamer. Streaming via Airplay sounds much cleaner than Spotify Connect which sounds a bit doofy and ordinary. There is also a substantial delay between tracks with Spotify Connect so I assume the servers are different. The speakers can connect to each other by Bluetooth which supports 48kHz/24bit or a supplied network cable connection that supports 96kHz/24bit transmission. It also supports source files up to 192kHz/24bit according to specs. I assume via TOSLINK. SOURCES SUPPORTED AirPlay 2 Spotify Connect Tidal Music (via KEF Stream app) Bluetooth 4.2 with Qualcomm aptX codec Optical input (TOSLINK) AUX input plus Subwoofer output HOW DO THEY SOUND To my ears, the sound is far removed from being audiophile quality but listening experience is exciting and enjoyable. Bass and upper bass were the BIG surprise because of the weight and detail which seemed out of proportion to these tiny boxes. Victor Wooten on electric bass is incredibly detailed, weighty and dynamic. Piano and stringed instruments sound accurate. Treble and mids aren't as harsh as I sometimes heard on the LS50's. Voices are so pure that minute vocal inflections are conveyed with a human emotion that is often lost. To summarise, KEF LSX speakers are exciting, musical, emotional and non fatiguing. Despite my bias towards my own system, and a disappointing start I really enjoy listening to them now. DISAPPOINTMENT When I listened in my main room, which is long, lively and has a tile floor, they sounded pretty grotty. Sounds seemed to just bounce around and the magic was gone. It was just a cacophony ! I think the room is just too large and too lively for such small speakers. The control apps have some EQ controls so speaker stands/cabinet, room brightness, edge distance and rear wall distance can be set to suit your own conditions. Bass and treble can also be adjusted. After customising the settings to suit my room, I could detect NO improvement whatsoever and I started to think I had made a big mistake. REDEMPTION...phew! We have a thickly carpeted spare bedroom that isn't used, so I placed the LSXs on some stands and powered up. There was a big improvement, but the sound was still out of whack. It sounded boomy and voices were recessed. More adjustments to the settings. Still no change. Now what? Brainwave! Reset speakers to factory settings with the app. I powered up and blast of glorious music hit me but it was too bass heavy, so I reduced the level until it was comfortable and got stuck into some of my test tracks. It seems to me, I may have fallen into the old trap of pushing the levels too high because these little miracles don't seem to distort at high levels. Comfortable listening levels, in a quiet, average room really let these LSX speakers shine and allowed me to experience some of my favourite tracks with a whole new level of enjoyment. The music and performance became more important than the sound for a change. SHOULD YOU BUY A SET? Most of the forum users are serious about audio and these speakers can't really be called 'audiophile' quality but they could introduce many enthusiasts to a new enjoyment listening to musical performances instead of listening to sound. NOTE: I don't know if the EQ control even works on my speakers but the factory setting sounds great when stands are used.2 points

Yep, tubes are addictive, aren’t they? : ) I have since acquired an AYON S-10 Streamer/DAC/Pre. The AYON sounds organic, detailed, transparent, live and holographic. However, Pandora has a much bigger sound stage and heavier punch. When it comes to emotional engagement, I reckon Pandora also have a slight upper hand. Pandora is more tube rolling friendly so that the sound can be fine tuned to your like as well.2 points

"However, well-done masterings in 16/44 can sound wonderful." And I must agree. Today I was drooling over how nice the cello sounded in Bach Cello Suites, expecting it to be another of the hi-rez downloads but no, it was the old 16/44. One wonders sometimes just how much those multi slider control panels on mixers mess up the sound. As you say, it sheets back to the skill of the engineers in control. Bottom line I'm VERY happy not to have to listen to music via LP with its inevitable "Snap Crackle & Pop" + the PIA ordeal of turntables, arms, cartridges with their geometric compromises, ....... Good luck to those who enjoy the challenges of hearing great music from that medium but I've been there, done that, moved on and am not looking back. And I respectfully suggest to the analog diehards that digital is not as bad as you (and I once did) think. If it sounds harsh, then that is the fault of jitter and is not being controlled by the DAC (and bridge?).2 points
