  3. Well finally have everything buttoned up. New tinted acrylic cover over display and aluminium front for the draw. Lettering done by a mate who is a signwriter. Printed on very clear and thin stick-on vinyl. Left it looking like brushed stainless as I did not mind the look, but I may end up painting it further down the track. Excuse the crappy picture quality. Good luck to all the other owners with their pimping efforts.

  10. They have arrived, now all I need is some @Lenehan Audio ML5's to squash them with. Lovely things, very well made, typical Townshend quality. The pods are a combination of a spring of a given rate along with a small air bellow.

  11. Item: Audio Research REF 2SE Phono Location: Adelaide NEW Price: $9,000. You will not find a better used price online. Will accept payments in installments. Item Condition: 9/10 as new. Comes with original box, manual and remote. Around 680 tube hours (it only gets run in after 500 hours) and the tubes last for 2,000 to 4,000 hours. Three years old - only one previous owner and purchased from an Audio Research dealer. Reason for selling: Nice tax return from Mr Turnbull has prompted me to stretch for the Audio Research REF 3 Phono (this is almost double my sell price for the REF 2SE) Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Bank Deposit. Extra Info: This phono absolutely blew me away (and the others that heard it). One of the best out there. Numerous brilliant reviews for the REF 2 and the REF 2 SE (better than the REF 2): http://www.audioresearch.com/ContentsFiles/REF5SEPH2SE250-TAS.pdf http://www.audioresearch.com/ContentsFiles/Tone-AWARD.pdf http://www.audioresearch.com/ContentsFiles/Tone_RP2.pdf http://www.audioresearch.com/ContentsFiles/HiFCr_RP2.PDF http://www.audioresearch.com/ContentsFiles/HF-ARC-REF-PH2web.pdf http://www.audioresearch.com/ContentsFiles/REFPH2Review.pdf Pictures:

  12. Hi all, Well it feels a little like that anxious feeling you got when you moved to a new school as a kid. LOL. A couple of your mates have been here for a while @:) al , but you know it's going to take a while to get to know your way around. I've been lurking here for a month or so, and I already get the feeling this place is going to cost me a lot of money. @lovetube is rewiring my RB300 tonearm and @mwhouston is building me a new phono stage. @Krix Loudspeakers is supplying some new LCR speakers. I'm heading down the rabbit hole.

  17. The Benz is tempting but as @scuzzii knows, Paris digs don't come cheap and I'm at the pointy end of my planning for Europe&UK. I think I'll call our Paris digs 'The Cartridge.' Just booked Edinburgh digs and that will called the Cadenza. I'm sure these will go Ross. I'm in the mood for change in my system and my LP12 is getting the boot when I get back from hols. Then it's time for a new TT and a time for trying new 'Things'. *Remember this convo for future reference, later this year and into the new one. GLWTS goes with out saying

  21. I've been using these for years, but they have one problem. To get a good SNR you need to add gain at th inputs and attenuate at the outputs as they're designed for very high levels in pro systems. Get a MiniDSP. Generally cheaper and though they're in Honkers, it'll be about 5 days postage and they're pretty good with support. You can also do FIR on some models and they allow the use of biquads to design custom filters. I have 4 here at the moment, one each for the L/R, sides, rears and subs and shakers.

Very versatile amp, THX Ultra 2 certified, can be bridged into mono, has RCA loop for adding more equipment, 12V trigger so ideal for custom home theater installations. 27. Item: Benz Micro LP-S and Ortofon Cadenza Black Cartridges Location: Sydney (lower North Shore or CBD) Price: Benz LP-S $SOLD and Cadenza Black $1600 Item Condition: Excellent - around 100 hours on the LP-S and 150 hours on the Cadenza Black Reason for selling: Too many cartridges, trying different things Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, bank transfer Extra Info: See below Pictures: See below This is another in the category of things I list for sale and then immediately regret it. I have too many cartridges, and realistically I am not going to listen to them all. I have ordered another one only yesterday. I am spending too much on hi fi and need to pay for some of the things I have been buying. So I have decided to list for sale two of the cartridges which get limited use, even though I rate both of them very highly. There are many reviews and positive comments for both cartridges available, and I don't think I need to give any kind of introduction. Both are amongst the best cartridges available at their price points, and indeed at any price point. Both have relatively low hours of use - estimated 100 hours for the LP-S and 150 hours for the Cadenza Black - and come with original packaging. I am happy to post, or pick up is also available from Cammeray or the Sydney CBD.

  28. Item: ATC SM75-150 Mid Range Driver x2 16ohm Location: Sydney Price: Sale Pending $650 (RRP for a pair UK Pounds ~ 800 Pounds. but no longer sold to public) plus postage Item Condition: Very Good Reason for selling: Trying other drivers Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Bank Transfer These drivers are considered to be the very best mid range drivers ever! Highly resolving, smooth, with extremely low distortion. Cover a range from 300Hz to 4000Hz. Sensitivty ~ 91dB/W NB. ATC SM75-150 not S version Soft Dome Mid-Range There are few engineering developments in any field that have effected change to the extent that ATC’s Soft Dome Midrange has on the monitoring of sound and particularly of music and voice. First produced in 1976 ATC’s soft dome represents the very best of midrange loudspeaker design and performance combining a smooth response from 350Hz to 3.5KHz, exceptionally low colouration, high power handling capacity, low power compression and high output level. This performance is achieved in ATC’s soft dome drive unit by having a very linear low distortion drive system comprising a 75mm diameter short coil operating in a long magnet gap supported on 2 suspensions to guarantee controlled coil movement, maintain concentricity with the very tight gap-coil clearances and also ensure excellent heat dissipation and power handling. The magnet gap is also in a magnetic circuit that is saturated and therefore not affected by the non-linearity due to hysteresis of the steel used in the magnetic assembly. The dome diaphragm, driven at its edge by the coil-former assembly, is a soft woven fabric impregnated with a viscous damping medium to attenuate unwanted resonances and ensure a smooth response with very low audible colouration. The response of the soft dome diaphragm is further improved by mounting it in a phase correction flange the profile of which is a mirror image of the dome. All of these elements combine to produce a midrange driver of exceptional fidelity and neutrality. ATC’s soft dome midrange is a common element in all ATC three way systems ensuring consistency between models and the best performance money can buy. 29. You bloody spliff splitting hippie. Oh, and I might add that I've been out the front of my place flashing a dolphin torch at a tree branch, while listening to Radiohead's Moon Shaped Pool via their free digital version thingy via my bran nu ANC BT cans that I can wear while my mobile is stuffed in a pocket and the sound is surprisingly Sonos/Helos/Roon/Tidal/Devialet/Stax/WTF-WoW!!/ Windoze Media Player...type sound. The reason for flashing a torch at a branch? It draws those rarely seen and super touchy critters called 'Micro-Bats' . Absolutely the kings of wow in the natural animal world. They weigh half the weight of a matchbox. (think about that for a second..."half the weight of a matchbox.") You can have a colony of 30 to 50 and they'll live in a crack in your wall no wider than half the width of your smallest finger... Why? They fly quicker than Martins, move swifter than Swallows, turn sharper than most birds if not all that feed on the wing. To watch them at dusk is one thing(brilliant) but in pitch black dashing in and out of a torch beam is ...it's worth what Mikey d would share. Posted from my crummy ph via these cans

  30. Andrea Belfi - Ore 2017 LP on Float I posted this one a couple of months the ago, but now I finally have the vinyl and it was worth the wait. The sound of this kills the digital, lovely multidimensional sound stage, detailed warm full sound. Tiniest bit of surface noise here and there but otherwise a brilliant pressing. Mastered by Nils Frahm and cut by Lupo. Ore is the debut release by Float, a record/fashion label and events agency established by former Erased Tapes employee Sofia Ilyas.

  35. Board replacement, or in colloquial terms, "valve jockeying" would be possible for agent repairers, but for the "common man" type TV tech, who didn't have the luxury of a mountain of spare TV boards of various breeds, this was never an option. Yes I know they didn't have valves, in the 80's TV's, this was just a disdainful term we used to describe that particular kind of "tech" which harks back to the olden days. And yes, it is often a part worth a couple of dollars that causes the problem, but it is the skill and ability of the Tech to find the fault in a reasonable amount of time, that you are paying for. Lets be honest, if electronics was so easy that anyone could do it, Techs would never have been able to make a living anyway. As for the TV's in question, I'd be quite happy to never see the inside of another TV like those as long as I lived. When I was repairing them in the 90's, they were mostly on their last legs. All the electro caps were becoming leaky and dried out. All the components were suffering from fractured solder joints, and had corrosion on their legs, which made them very hard to resolder. The picture tubes weren't operating at their best. Turret tuners were a pain once their contacts became corroded.... I could go on, but you get the picture (well if you were lucky you got the picture LOL).
