FOCAL ADDS MORE TO KANTA LOUDSPEAKER RANGE

French loudspeaker goliaths Focal have strengthened its Kanta range with three new designs, hot on the heels of the successful N°2 floorstander introduced last year.

Arriving later in 2018 are the N°1 bookshelf, the range-topping N°3 floorstander and the Kanta Centre – a voice-matched essential addition for Kanta owning Home Theatre enthusiasts.

Focal Kanta No3 Floorstander Speakers

Described by Focal as “a discreet loudspeaker particularly suited to a bookshelf setting”, Kanta N°1 is at home in smaller rooms with a floor area of 25m2 or less. The existing N°2 is suitable for larger 25 – 40m2 rooms, while the larger Kanta N°3 is perfect in rooms with a floor area between 40m2 and 80m2.

Focal Kanta Centre Channel

The all-new centre is the perfect add-on for HT duties. Focal had this to say:

Kanta Centre’s ability to reproduce vocal registers with extreme neutrality, at low and very high volumes, makes it a great tool in the arsenal of any premium home cinema system.

Adding the existing SUB 1000F subwoofer to a Kanta Home Theatre system makes for a potent high-performance experience, its extended bass and high SPL capability makes it perfect for popcorn overindulging Marvel superhero movie night.

All Kanta models share Focal’s proprietary Flax/fibre bass and midrange driver cones; the 100% organic French grown flax is enclosed between two thin layers of fibreglass, and sub excepted, IAL 3 Beryllium tweeters that combine the IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) and IHL (Infinite Horn Loading) tweeters featuring a TMD (Tuned Mass Damper) suspension and an NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) motor.

Focal's New Zealand and Australia representatives, NA Distributors, were on hand at Munich's High End show back in May to sample the new models. Business Development Manager for NA Distributors, Debbie Stanton, told StereoNET:

Kanta's sleek, elegant, lines appeal to me because I want a speaker that'll perform, and yet integrate discreetly into my home interior. All new Focal speakers are voiced with Naim Audio electronics, so Kanta and Naim play beautifully together - my new ideal system for my small apartment is Kanta No1 bookshelf speakers with a Naim Atom all-in-one player!

Focal and Naim Audio merged back in 2011 so you can bet your bottom dollar they play well together.

Focal Kanta No3

The three new models are available in the same eight elegant finishes as Kanta N°2 - Black High Gloss cabinet with four High Gloss finishes for the front panel: Carrara White, Gauloise Blue, Solar Yellow, and Black Lacquer. Wood veneer housing with four Matt finishes for the front panel: Ivory, Warm Taupe, Gauloise Blue, and Dark Grey.

The first shipment is due late 2018, and pricing for the three debutantes should be available next week. Kanta N°2 ($14,850 RRP) and Sub 1000F ($2,200 RRP) are available now.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
