CLEARAUDIO’S NEXT GENERATION ACTIVE TURNTABLES

Clearaudio haven’t just jumped on the vinyl revival. They never went away. In fact, their first moving coil cartridge came to light in 1978, the brainchild of Peter Suchy and his team.

Nearly forty years later, Clearaudio is still at the forefront of turntable technology and marks the occasion with a new turntable range called Concept Active, “one for all, all for one”.

A ready-to-play system, the Concept Active is a turntable pre-set from the factory and available in a myriad of options to suit every application.

The first choice is either the standard black/silver finish or a ‘wood’ version.

Next, choose from either the frictionless, magnetic bearing Concept tonearm, or the Satisfy Kardan Aluminium tonearm.

Finally, choose from Clearaudio’s specially developed moving magnet (MM) or moving coil (MC) Concept cartridges. The advantage of making these early selections is that the all-important critical parameters, from cartridge tracking weight to anti-skating are preadjusted in the Clearaudio factory.

Clearaudio Concept Active

The Clearaudio Active comes with an integrated phono-stage which means you can simply connect the turntable directly to any AV receiver or integrated amplifier’s auxiliary input.

Or for a more personal experience the Concept Active also features an integrated headphone amplifier allowing you to plug your favourite ‘phones directly into the turntable.

All versions of the Concept Active feature a resonance-optimised chassis manufactured from highly compressed wood, within an aluminium surround and upper layer incorporating a high tech synthetic compound.

The turntable uses a decoupled and resonance damped DC motor, flat belt-drive and plug-in power supply unit designed for worldwide use.

The bearing consists of a polished and tempered steel shaft in a sintered bronze bushing which runs on a mirror of Teflon. The platter is produced from a synthetic material that is CNC-precision milled to a 30mm thickness with an aluminium sub-platter.

The Clearaudio Concept Active weighs 7.6kg in standard form, or 8.0kg in the wood version, including tonearm and cartridge and comes with a 2-year warranty.

Pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed but the Concept Active will be available later this year. Pre-orders are encouraged.

They will sell locally from $3,695 to $5,295 RRP depending on colour and cartridge option.

    applause awards

Each time StereoNET reviews a product, it is considered for an Applause Award. Winning one marks it out as a design of great quality and distinction – a special product in its class, on the grounds of either performance, value for money, or usually both.

Applause Awards are personally issued by StereoNET’s global Editor-in-Chief, David Price – who has over three decades of experience reviewing hi-fi products at the highest level – after consulting with our senior editorial team. They are not automatically given with all reviews, nor can manufacturers purchase them.

The StereoNET editorial team includes some of the world’s most experienced and respected hi-fi journalists with a vast wealth of knowledge. Some have edited popular English language hi-fi magazines, and others have been senior contributors to famous audio journals stretching back to the late 1970s. And we also employ professional IT and home theatre specialists who work at the cutting edge of today’s technology.

We believe that no other online hi-fi and home cinema resource offers such expert knowledge, so when StereoNET gives an Applause Award, it is a trustworthy hallmark of quality. Receiving such an award is the prerequisite to becoming eligible for our annual Product of the Year awards, awarded only to the finest designs in their respective categories. Buyers of hi-fi, home cinema, and headphones can be sure that a StereoNET Applause Award winner is worthy of your most serious attention.
