O.Sydney
The November 2014 meeting of the Sydney Audio Club sees us once again at Dence Park for an afternoon of fine music and sound and convivial company. Each month, the Sydney Audio Club presents the finest in high end audio systems for our members and guests. It's a bit like a private audio show once a month where you can hear and discuss equipment that you might not otherwise have the chance to audition. And you can bring along your own music to test the capabilities of the system or to just share with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. For November, we will have the return of Vince Hamilton of Once Analog fame. Refer to his site at: http://www.onceanalog.com.au/ Vince is always a great presenter. He’ll be bringing in a complete system. The system will be comprised of: Once Analog turntable – refer to http://www.onceanalog.com.au/once_analog_technical_description.html The following is paraphrased from Vince’s web site… This turntable is meticulously hand-crafted and finished one at a time. Only the best of materials are used, predominately 316 (non magnetic) stainless-steel for the machined components and medium-density craftwood for the plinths. It is engineered to satisfy the most demanding lover of vinyl playing equipment. The exceptional focal points that contribute to the remarkable sound quality are: silicone damped spindle, bearing housing isolation cylinder made from MS nylon, composite plinth construction with acrylic inlay, machined cast-lead motor chamber and one piece platter design weighing 4kg. The Wand Unipivot tonearm with Cardas wiring – refer to http://designbuildlisten.com/ This intriguing tonearm hails from New Zealand. Its large diameter carbon-fibre arm tube makes it at least four times stiffer than ‘traditional’ arms. Since being launched in late 2011 it has picked up a Best Design Award (in New Zealand) and numerous Five Star reviews around the world. It is available in 9inch and 12inch lengths and in two specification levels, The Wand Classic (via the Design Build Listen website) and The Wand Plus (via retailers only). Grado MCZ M/M cartridge – refer to http://www.gradolabs.com/cartridges This cartridge has won quite a following in the years it’s been on the market. Cymer Audio integrated amplifier with KT120 valves, and Cymer Audio phono preamp Elson Silva is the man behind Cymer. Elson is very well-known around the world and highly respected – his products are designed by himself and built here in Australia. Edgar Kramer is a fan of Elson’s products… refer to http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/28649-my-new-reference-valve-amplification/#entry468352 Marek Dyba writes for High Fidelity, and had this to say about Elson’s passive preamp and amplifier… http://www.highfidelity.pl/@main-89?=en Len Wallis Audio now sells amplifiers designed by Elson (badged as Duntech rather than Cymer). Refer to http://www.lenwallisaudio.com/blog/new-systems/the-welcome-return-of-duntech-loudspeakers/ And Edgar again, but this time on 6Moons… http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/cymer/1.html Klipsch KG2 speakers – refer to http://www.klipsch.com.au/kg-2/details Marantz SA-11S1 – refer to http://www.marantz.asia/ap/pages/home.aspx and http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue28/marantz_sa11.htm A club member is bringing in his Marantz for the meetings such that we can also play CD/SACD discs. The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO. Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all. So bring along your favourite music on vinyl or CD/SACD. Sorry, no provision for flash drives this month. All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting. We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played. Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others of a similar mind.Guests are always welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound. We will welcome you at the door.Venue: Epping Creative CentreAddress: 26 Stanley St, Epping When: Sunday 16th November 2014 Doors open 1pmMeeting starts at 2pm Best regards, Tom Waters President Sydney Audio Club www.sydneyaudioclub.org.au tomwaters@sydneyaudioclub.org.au On behalf of Tom and the Sydney Audio club Inc.O.Sydne

After Sydney Audio Club today I will be chilling to the sounds of A Winged Victory For The Sullen at the Basement tonight.
analog brother
it was very good! imperial not a bad venue. they started off a bit slow, but built up to a very strong finish. mike banks + 3 new crew on decks, samplers, keyboards, guitar, and sax. very funky, jazzy house grooves, then a selection of their finest tracks, including an homage to derrick may's 'strings of life' crowd got into the vide, was a great nite out. leigh couldn't make it, and i didn't see our raving photographer, so perhaps i was the only SNAer there? i think you will like a winged victory....i have their cd it is quite good. enjoy!
