@soundfan & @Bell Ringer: any other releases of the David S. Ware Quartet you would recommend? Thanks.

I would check out Corridors & Parallels and Freedom Suite. But my favourite is the Live In Vilnius 2 LP release on the NoBusiness label. Brilliant, and superb on vinyl.

Oblations and Blessings is also another great album.

And here is a trio recording review of an album I believe may have just been released. I've not heard it, but will buy it.

And Shakti too. :)

I think you'll really enjoy both the album and the quality of the release. The NoBusiness label do superb vinyl issues of some great free jazz.

Playing this fine album at the minute.

David S. Ware: tenor sax
Susie Ibarra is outstanding on the drum kit
William Parker: bass
Matthew Shipp: piano

Brownie points? Saw Chick Corea with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra at North Sea Jazz Festival last Sunday, in Rotterdam!

Also Danny McClassin band (he played sax on David Bowie's last album) and Dhaffer Yousef

regards Ian

Yazz Ahmed: La Saboteuse

I ordered the vinyl version of this back in May. Was supposed to ship mid June, but mine didn't get shipped until July 5. Grrrrrrr.

Still waiting.

A truly great album in my book. :)

Record cleaning afternoon. So decided to play some jazz.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered my version of Blue Train is the AP 2008 45rpm.

I don't recall purchasing it. I thought i had just the standard blue note release.

On it went. Fantastic

for all you Trane fans, Chasing Trane showing at upcoming MIFF, Melbourne International Film Fest!

http://miff.com.au/program/film/chasing-trane

< "The genius of John Coltrane comes to life in an elegantly crafted documentary that can hook jazz novices as well as connoisseurs." – Variety

Veteran documentarian John Scheinfeld (The U.S. vs. John Lennon) takes an expansive, passionate dive into the life of the iconic saxophonist and musical innovator, moving from Coltrane's roots through his work with Miles Davis, the legendary A Love Supreme, his addictions and his spiritual awakenings.

Buoyant archival footage is spliced together with Coltrane's own words, read by Oscar-winner Denzel Washington, while a host of interviews – ranging from Cornel West to Bill Clinton to Santana – pay tribute to the jazz titan. The result is a beautifully textured, uplifting piece electrified by more than 50 of Coltrane's recordings from throughout his career.

"A rich account of a jazz giant's life … comprehensive, engrossing and, it's tempting to say, worshipful." – Hollywood Reporter >

screens 9 Aug ACMI 2, 4pm

19 Aug Kino Cinema 1, 6.45pm

you can attend individual sessions at MIFF, I'd book early if you want to get in!
