warnsey1
First off a big thank you to Alan for putting up with me for a few hours. What was going to be a quick pick up of cables and a quick listen turned into a 3 hour musical journey that was accompanied by some great coffee and a rather smooth mango liquor. Although our tastes were some what different we managed to find similarities in our music and I certainly learnt a lot and experienced many artists that I had not heard previously. Now Alan's system is amazing and something I'm defiantly aspiring to one day. From the beautiful racks (well done Andrew) to the lovely Ambience speakers right through to the Townshend Super Tweeters, Alan's system is something very special. The Melody gear that he is trialling at the moment sounded great with the ribbons to my ears. One thing that was reinforced this morning was the need for more GTG's in Canberra. Once again thanks Alan and here's to many more listening sessions.

Grumpy
Sounds like a good way to kick off the Canberra GTG group. Thanks for sharing. Mango Liquor?
Bronal
What can I say, Craig, except see you, Higgy and Decky next week! Grumpy: the mango liqueur comes from Townsville and is apparently made from mango skins as well as the fruit. I'll post the name tomorrow.

Audiobugged
Warnsey, Would like to second that Bronal's system is fabulous. Outstanding for smoothness and its eminent listenability without any concessions to detail. Also, although his system is very much suited to his tastes in music but flexible enough to play other genres. Can see that he's been through a very long journey but the outcome is something I'd be very proud of. AB
warnsey1
Yes it is a very smooth system. What amazed was having too sub woofers that integrated seamlessly with the system. I'm looking forward to next Sunday.

Higgy
Thanks again to Alan (Bronal) for organising a second GTG. Great company, good wine - and (surprisingly) good mango liqueur. As someone re-discovering HI-FI these gatherings seem a great way to explore other systems and components – as well as discover other music tastes! It was great to listen to a well integrated system - and I was amazed how good the Ambience Ribbons sounded – a very natural sound - very close to my ideal. I have to agree with Warnsy’s earlier comment re the seamless integration of the sub woofers with the system – these were nicely balanced and worked seamlessly with the main speakers. As a new member of SNA I am continually surprised how friendly and supportive it is (with one or two exceptions on "religous" threads) – it was good to meet both Warnsy1 and Decky at Alan’s – it is great to meet people who are so ready to share their knowledge. Thanks again Alan for you generosity – a great afternoon.
warnsey1
Well I think it was Canberra's first 'official' GtG this afternoon and I don't think there is anywhere better to kick them off than at Alan's. His system is fantastic and there is always a diverse range of music to be enjoyed (along with a great coffee and a glass of red). It was great to meet some fellow Canberra folk forum as well. Thanks again Alan and here's to many more Canberra GTG's.

curly joe
Sounds like you guys had a good time, I think it's time we got our act together over in Perth and organised a GTG here. Slightly OT but what super tweeters are you using Bronal and what improvements did they bring to your ribbons? It's something I'd like to try at some point. Bronal
Hi CJ: I use the Townshend Super Tweeters (black crackle finish, not the stainless steel finish you commonly see). I originally got them for use with VAF I-66s I had before the Ambiences. As you'll appreciate, they'e not very easy to set up with the Ambiences! At present, I have them on top of my subs, but I intend to make myself a pair of wedge-shaped blocks (like door stops) so that they'll fire upwards in a line with my ears in sitting position. I've had them for a couple of years now and the best assessment of them I can give is that I miss them when they aren't there! Their effect is quite subtle but noticeable - I'd say better imaging for one thing. Cheers Alan
curly joe
Thanks bronal, the Townshend units look great, maybe a bit pricey for me to just to experiment with. From the pics I saw it looks like they come with their own "box of tricks" to run them, very handy, not having to worry about messing with the impedance of your speakers and adjusting for sensitivity differences. I might start a new thread on s/tweeters to not take this one off topic. Cheers CJ
