Crustacean
Greetings to all audio boffins out there. I have a Proton D540 amplifier which I bought new in the 1980's. These were a great amp in their day, with some special features on power output. I has developed a problem with the volume control. Over a period of years it became crackly, but would clear itself with a few winds up and down while the power was off. Recently however, the volume seems to vary wildly in one channel without the volume control being touched. I am very attached to it and would like to have it repaired. Does anyone out there know of a company in Australia with the skills to fix it? I have made several enquiries in Melbourne and got nowhere. HELP! Guest Mr Thorens
Often to fix a crackly volume control all you need is a $11 can of electrical contact cleaner spray,(Jaycar) spray a little into the back of the potentiometer (volume control) from the inside of the amp, turn it backwards and forwards a few time and it will work again.
