emesbee
Irish music works for me. There are many emotionally charged Irish songs, and many fine female Irish singers. I see Alison Krauss has already been mentioned. Ok, she's not Irish, but I love this performance of her singing a traditional Irish song with the Chieftains. Another Irish song, this time sung by Kate Bush. (It's on the 'Common Ground' CD. I wish she'd do more like this.) emesbee
A couple of songs from Kate Rusby, one of my favourite female singers. And her cover of a well known Sandy Denny song. She does it well. (Very nice accordian backing from Andy Cutting on this.) [media=]

emesbee
Another fine Irish singer. This is from her debut solo album, but she also sings with Danu. And Karan Casey, former lead singer with Solas. [media=]

Soundscape
So many great songs on this thread, so many more to come. I wanted to listen to all the links above before posting but I can't wait. At the risk of disappointing some of our more sophisticated colleagues, I offer two numbers by Sting to begin with. First, "The Shape Of My Heart", the centre-piece of it being Larry Adlers exquisite harmonica solos. Then "Wild, Wild Sea", from Stings best (imho) & most forgotten album "Soul Cages", whose lyrics are pure poetry. Needless to say, I identify strongly with both of these tunes. Guest Willow
Emotional feelings are mostly personal. At large events the National anthem gets me pump-up, and my wife can't work out why I always want to clap and pump my fist afterwards. Come to think of it nether can I. Very true snowy , some emotions , and playing on them can actually inspire , I'll kick off with a little number that daughter no*2's softball team chose as they ran out onto the diamond prior to last years final. Very uplifting and seemed to intimidate the opposing team. Next up emotions on a very different scale , great lyrics and girl power by the truck load. http://youtu.be/gqYNGuSGhN0

emesbee
A couple of songs by South African singer/songwriter Vusi Mahlasela. This guy is brilliant, should be better known outside his home country. Has a soft voice, but conveys a lot of power and emotion. This next track is from his album 'Guiding Star'. Terrific album, I can thoroughly recommend it. As well as the emotional ballads there are some good up tempo township style tracks.
