My first rock n roll hero

probably replaced Wyatt Earp and Davy Crockett

and this is a great record recorded with killer musicians and vocals

in retrospect it may have been a conscious attempt to rescue his reputation from a decade of increasingly dreadful movies and bland soundtracks

a real what if or only if sort of statement about that largely wasted decade

I remember that

i also had a ticket for Brisbane but he got the boot before he got there

I did see him in about 74 or 75 in Canada though

I remember him singing You Are So Beautiful beautifully

Blue Moon Of Kentucky

Written by Bill Monroe as a waltz this is a bluegrass song

So what was Elvis thinking

probably not much

more like just reacting to the sound in his head

and swerving on the spot for 2 or 3 minutes

and that is why he is

The King

Elvis was THE first rock n roller     Elvis was well known to have total recall/ near photographic memory for songs. he could hear a song once or twice, then record it without the use of written words. he was literally a musical sponge and his musical knowledge underrated.

This is a good compilation - It only took RCA 10 years after his death to release an album with most of his 1969 Mephis recordings.

In a similar vein - RCA last year released I'm Leavin - which is most of his recordings he did in May 1971 at the RCA's Studio B in Nashville.  They have such an unforced soulful country feel.    If this had been released as an album in its own right in 1971 - it would have been a classic.  Instead RCA scattered these songs into various Studio and mid price releases that ruined Elvis's career in the 70's.  so many great songs ruined by suits trying to make more $$ - they could not see the gold they had in their hands.

Elvis Presley - I'm Leaving.

So, so, so @#$% good!!!!

They are back in fine form.    Great version of 'Who shot Ya!'  (Notorious B.I.G cover)    I saw them do this song live a few months back and they knocked it out of the park.  Brilliant concert at 170 Russell Street.

A bit of 'chill' in the air this evening....

Bonobo - black sands

This was the first music of his I'd heard many years ago.

Ive had the vinyl unopened for a few months. I should have opened it earlier. What a pressing.

Its between this or North Border as his best work... great SQ.
