I always loved the Perry version of Journey but never delved back to their first albums until a few years back. They are two very different bands.

The best Journey album ever. Amazing stuff. Prog before the pop.

I have this on vinyl I bought ages ago but for whatever reason never really gave it a listen. I agree. Next and Look Into The future are similar. For me its a bonus. Two great bands in one.

The Scientists - Self-titled/'The Pink Album' (1981)

For me, one of those 'heard good things but never actually heard 'em' bands. I found the recent Numero Group vinyl reissue in the clearance bin over the summer and thought I'd give it a go. (Listening here to the 320kbps download.) I really like the band's sound and energy. Songs seem pretty good. Not sure about the vocals - not bad just a bit naggish.

Del Amitri-Waking Hours

AC/DC-Let There Be Rock. UK original. Between the ages of 16 to 19 this was probably played once a week and then for no reason I can see it has sat unplayed for 35 odd years. Bugger me it sounds stonkingly good and a good replay system really brings out the goodness in the recording. Such impact, such life and that briefest of moments at the end of each track as it quickly fades out the buzzing of the amps in the studios is awesome. You can feel the electricity in the air.

Crabsody In Blue that used to make me smirk does tend to make me cringe now though.

Wilco: A Ghost Is Born

Classic Wilco. Cranked up too.

Some of my best ever Concert experiences involve hearing songs like Handshake Drugs, Hummingbird, and Spiders, played live by the band.

James Taylor-Never Die Young

Then The Christians self titled. They were the Lighthouse Family of the 80s. One album chock full of hits and then nothing after.

Tracey Chapman's brilliant debut

Stan Campbell's self titled album. He was the vocalist on The Specials Free Nelson Mandela and afterwards made this album. Not bad.

WarumpiBand_BG.jpeg.567a54bae6ab8aa39eb923ee1a5f9adc.jpeg

Warumpi Band - Go Bush! (1987)

There was a sing along to 'My Island Home' at my kids' school assembly this morning.

Thought I'd play the album this afternoon. I don't have much of it - just a few tracks here and on the Building Bridges compilation album - but I find the combination of garage band and Indigenous language vocals to be a very powerful combination. There was obviously something in the pre-Bicentennial air. I was just too young (10) to be very aware of it. I do remember the Don't Celebrate '88 stickers, but mostly just First Fleet re-enactments, Expo and, um, Dean Jones and Steve Waugh.
