betocool
What a cracking album! Hadn't heard it in a while! I got this AUS pressing a few days ago. Didn't realise it was a different edit than the CD. Nice surprise! Sounds pretty good too!

Incredible talent.

Hergest
Styx-The Grand Illusion. A rather flat sounding Friday Music copy supposedly mastered from the original tapes. My only reference is an ancient tape off my mates album back in the 80s so heaven knows if this is better or worse than the original.
metal beat
new Brian Jonestown Massacre album - Third World Pyramid. BJM have the unique ability where most songs sounds almost the same but completely different. a true sign of greatness. There is even an amazing cover version of a Nina Simone song. which song is it boys? Edited November 18, 2016 by Metamatic

I have a best of or Anthology CD (Ok, it's my wife's), and it sounds so flat and dull it's painful. Kinda puts you off buying more music from them. And now this... not good promotion I fear. Maybe a 1970's copy would do ok? Edited November 18, 2016 by betocool Just saw @Kensell21 's reply. Be interesting to know.

Hergest
Heritage-Opeth. An album ruined by the compression used. The album opens with a wonderful full bodied, rich solo piano with an enormous soundstage and it's as if you are sitting next to it. "This is going to be great when the band kicks in" you think. The band kicks in. 2 dimensions, flat, dull, insipid, bereft of any balls or guts. The drums are quieter than the preceding piano. The next track starts off with an acoustic guitar refrain. Lovely recording. The band kicks in. So does the compression. Rock at its most flaccid destroyed by thoughtless production and mastering. I heard an interview when she was ill, she was tremendously poised about the possibility of death but was more interested in her next projects. I was hoping reports of her death were greatly exaggerated. Along with Mose Allison, it's been a bad week for losing musos who are authentic. ********** Each of these today has been a hard act to follow, but my wife says I've been up to the challenge:
