I can't find any info about these with respect to what's inside them. Any chance of some pictures of the internals/modules? Is this one of the rebranded Teac ones or a Melbourne-built one?

In one of the photos of the back panel it does say "made in Australia" so I think it is safe to assume that this was indeed made here.

Made in Melbourne. Audiophile bought the Amber franchise from the states many moons ago. They built Pre amps power amps integrated amps and speakers which were well regarded. They are still selling their stuff on line although the product range no longer contains as much electronics -mainly speakers these days. All good stuff imho!

Thanks @rantan the odd reminder to open my eyes probably doesn't go astray! 8) There seems to be a few threads around on some of the Aussie made models now and again but none with internal pics or tech info that I I can find. Ha, might have to open my eyes again hey! (Look up maybe?)

@gat474 if it were a power amp I'd have bought it

Just turn the volume up really loud, use one input and pretend it's a power amp.

I've always liked the Amber amps, had a 50c and the a 60i. The former was heaps better than the 60i.

I bet this 70i follows the traditions of the 50 series being a proper Amber rather than a rebadged Teac.

I think they  may have had some links with Cary audio.Audiophile stocked Cary gear and I recall someone mentioning one of the amber tube pre-amps may have had similar circuitry to one of the Cary ones.

This particular amps predecessor had an option of a tube preamp section back in the early naughties.

This added a considerable premium to the cost.

My other recollection was that there was practically nothing on the net about Amber and the Audiophile staff, who were a good bunch, were happy to let the products do the talking.

Stick it in front of Batmans Audio Definition Duets with a decent second hand CD player for a 1k Aussie built u-beaut hifi system. That is a seriously nice little system for peanuts.

It will indeed be a fine day if Nik returns to a bricks and mortar shop once again. A gentleman I hold in the highest regard.
