A Collection Of Great Dance (Audiophile) Scarves

Recommended Posts

SOLD

Many thanks fellow SNA'ers, all bar the cowl are now sold and my wife now decides she wants it, I knew there was a motive to her asking me to knit a cowl rather than a scarf.....

Rather than list these as i knitted them during the Summer and Autumn I thought it best to wait until it's cooled down and bung them all up in one go so here we are.

For those not in the know, I'm a middle aged construction worker who knits while he listens to music. Scarves are a treat as I don't have to concentrate too much and can pay more attention to the music but as family and friends are weighed down with the buggers i decided last year to sell them here. My business model is absolutely appalling as I sell them for what the wool cost plus postage. The price is up a tad I think from last time as I now only use Express Post, standard post being  bloody hopeless and the Summer heat will be back long before the package arrives even in a suburb across the city.

I only use good wool that I enjoy knitting with which isn't the cheap stuff. Either Manos Del Uruguay merino, a really soft 100% merino made by a female non profit co-opperative in Uruguay. How much more right on can you get? My other wool of choice is 100% dinky di Aussie maaaaate. Cleckheaton superfine merino grown and processed down Wangaratta way. A thinner wool than the Uruguay but silky and smooth. Both are perfect next to the skin. A lot of Australian merino is exported to China to be processed and then imported back here. It's cheaper but strikes me as environmental vandalism and I won't have any truck with that.

Scarves are genuine audiophile. All knitted with fine music playing on either an SME Model 20 or Model 10 turntable which imbues the garments with sonic goodness. Highs are higher and smoother, bass is deeper and richer. Even audiophile tosh is improved. I listened to Natalie Merchant's double MOFI of Tiger Lily with all of the scarves covering my ears and the improvements were striking. A real Wow!! moment.

The sizing is all pretty much the same, roughly 140 centimetres long and 18 centimetres wide. The Manos Del Uruguay comes in skeins so some are slightly different to others but it only makes for a few centimetres in length difference. Our house is smoke, perfume and pet free.

#2. Cleckheaton Australian Green Checkerboard Cowl.

My wife suggested I made a cowl which in this case is a scarf with the ends sown together as some people (Her) like to only have to do a single twist to wrap around their neck and don't have dangly bits. My wife has never really liked dangly bits but that's something for another type of forum I reckon.

The colour of this is officially Forest Green.

#3.Cleckheaton Australian Green Cable. Sold

A reversible cable so both sides are exactly the same. I could say it's the same as a Status Quo record but I've cracked that feeble one before.

#4. Manos Uruguayan Larkspur Checkerboard. Sold.

Manos wool is kettle dyed so the colours aren't solid but are mottled with lots of different shades. I love the way they come out. Neither are they called by a proper colour. Larkspur is a sort of bluey, turquoise pale blue type of thing.

#5.Manos Uruguayan Cherrywood Checkerboard. Sold

I sold a Cherrywood scarf at the end of last Winter. It's a really vibrant darker shade of red, one of my favourites as I love colour.

#7. Manos Uruguayan Saffron Checkerboard. Sold

I'll admit this is my favourite colour. A lovely bright yellow. I've done myself a couple in this colour and it looks awesome partnered with a denim jacket or black leather and is perfect on a cold day with a Harris tweed jacket and waistcoat combo. I am a tweedy gentleman.

Well done if you've made it all the way down to here. Anything I've neglected to mention please ask. I'm a day or two away from finishing a deep Autumn plum seeded rib that is thick and luxurious and perfect for the colder days ahead so if that tickles your fancy just hold on a bit.

Great work.

Have you ever thought about making some beanies? I like to wear a beanie in chilly weather but the acrylic ones seem to be ubiquitous at the expense of nice ones made from wool.

Anyway, well done for having a crack

Don't sit your wife down and show her this and scroll through going "Eww! Ahhh! Look at that fancy pattern and the colours are nice and it's pretty clever knitting isn't it? ...like it's beyond beginners yeah?"

I had to say it:wacko:  "Can you do that fancy twisty thing, the cable thingy?" "cAn I get the yellow one?"

I need every scarve you've knitted and probably your future output for the foreseeable future as it went very very VERY frosty without a word being said, just a glance...that was all that was needed for me to know I'd crossed a line.

"But mum was the last person to knit me a scarve!"

"I didn't know!"

"You can knit me one...knit me three!"

"Can I buy one?"

Someone hand me a shovel.

I'm sure you'll sell them all.

She said the price is good.

Someone asked me last year about beanies and my reply at the time was No as I thought it would take a bit more concentration. However I've got some patterns that look fairly simple so will have a crack at some point. Might have to be for next Winter.

Hi mate, my wife and I have just read through your ad and admired every stitch of it! Certainly made us smile! If we could be so bold to order a red Uruguayan checkerboard she would love one! No problem if that doesn't suit. Listening to 'Beyond the Missouri Sky' (perfect Saturday arvo) at the moment, but we wouldn't be so bold to suggest knitting tunes! Let us know.

Kind regards, Michael (and Jessica)

My Mum taught me to knit when I was about 7 or 8. We would sit listening to music while I attempted endless Stoke City scarves in red and white stripes. I abandoned it for 20 or more years as it's not a thing a bloke does but decided some years ago to pick it up again and my fingers fell into the right place straight away. I'm nearly always elbow deep in wool now and online wool stores are almost as exciting as online hi-fi stores. Brick and mortar wool shops have far better looking sales people than brick and mortar hi-fi stores.....

No worries Michael. I think I might have a couple of skeins of Cherrywood in the biiiiig bag. If not then you might have to wait but I'll shoot you a PM if things look good. I have to empty a bag before I buy  new one see....

No worries Brian, shoot me a PM if you would so I can give you my details.

Will do. Have you been to the skien sisters over in dulwich hill yet and we go to the Wangaratta woollen mill every time we drive to Melbourne. One of 2 requisite stops on every trip. The amount of clekheaton Cath has in her stash is over the top but the end of dye lots are so cheap by the kilo. Cheers.

Nice..............except no St George colours there!

Well I did start thinking about doing ones in stripes for the football/rugby/ Aussie Rules crowd as I reckon there's a market there. My wife has made me do a Plymouth Argyle one for her old Dad first so that can be my template.

Alas no blacker than black knitted in chainmail style unholy goats wool version...

Ha ha. I bought a load of black wool as I knew that would always be popular but every time I dig in the bags of wool to start a new project I'm seduced by a rich colour. Black is a boring as batshit to knit with.:P.

Onya. Serious skills.  Mum knits baby clothes in super soft wool while she watches telly !  She sells them for next to nothing - and some tosser still has the gall to want a discount.

I tried as a young guy.  Couldn't get the tension right.  Bit too tense might be a young guy problem.

Not so much of a scarf guy, might look at a beanie if they appear next time.

Socks man, they're the go. Good ones are neigh on impossible to find, and they cost a motsa when you do find them.

Hell, at this rate we'll have you with a range suitable for fashion week next year.

Great knitting by the way. If you get the chance, I'd like a checker board one in that teal colour at the top of your listing. Happy to wait till next season, but I want an extra row of checks so I can actually use it as a checker board. I'm only a little guy, so the tail should be long enough to reach the park bench when I entertain the homeless with a game of chess. Ohh, and I want the Uruguayan wool so I can impress said homeless by telling them it's imported.
