As more people aim to keep their room looking neat, but the tunes flowing... KEF has an awesome answer. Enter the compact, active desktop type speaker system - the KEF Egg.
The famous KEF egg shape has been implemented for this fresh take on what a compact speaker system can achieve. The EGG Wireless Digital Music System gives pure, clear KEF quality sound for your TV (via Optical) and laptop (via USB or Bluetooth) with wireless streaming for your mobile devices via Bluetooth (Apt-X).

For enjoying high resolution sound from virtually any source, the new active KEF EGG wireless digital music system gives music lovers a complete audio solution that combines the supremely accurate definition of KEF's latest Uni-Q® driver array with the ability to stream tracks wirelessly via Bluetooth aptX®.
With an integrated amplifier and in-built DAC, it is possible to enjoy 96kHz/24-bit HiRes audio via the mini USB input from PC or Mac or via the optical digital input. In fact with the provided optical digital connection it is extremely easy to connect the sound output of any T.V. and enjoy all your favourite shows, music videos and movies through these little beauties. The KEF Egg system  fulfils nearly every requirement for a flexible, compact, high resolution sound system - and looks stylish and classy while doing so.

KEF Eggs TV Sound - SAVI Systems Perth

The Eggs are heavy little speakers, a fact owed to their stout, anti-resonant cabinets and premium components inside. Outside, each speaker sports a matte finish (available in white, blue and black) that looks classy and should stay that way since they buck fingerprints so well. Even the unusually heavy remote control exudes an air of class.

Well balanced, articulate and easy on the ear, the KEF is a delightful performer. It tickles out plenty of top-end detail, while the solid mid-range and bass gel everything together.
What’s is perhaps most impressive is how the UniQ drivers project music as a seamless, cohesive whole. It’s perfectly balanced, never allowing one frequency band to overpower another – every element is granted the space and time to make itself heard. That’s testament to the KEF’s impressive transparency.
KEF says these new eggs are the most “sophisticated and acoustically accomplished version” of the speaker. The tweeter is internally vented to prevent potentially distorting high pressures from building up behind the dome. The tangerine-shaped waveguide position in front of the tweeter helps disperse the sound spherically for wider and more even dispersion. The ‘Z-flex’ cone surround around the mid/bass diaphragm limits secondary radiation. The midrange cone is made of aluminium to retain stiffness, and there’s also a damping ring to control resonances.

KEF Egg Digital Music Speakers - SAVI Systems Perth

The two KEF Eggs look identical at a glance, but this is actually a master-slave system. One does the heavy lifting and passes information to the other.
All the processing takes place in the foot of the master unit, which features a mains input (external power brick, not figure-of-eight cable), mini USB input and an output for connecting to the slave unit, plus a subwoofer output for (optionally) adding lower frequencies later.

Part of the excitement the Egg imparts is the unexpected scale of its soundstage and the brilliant effect of its stereo separation. It is excels in almost every aspect at which even the most advanced one-box speakers fail. And underscoring it all is KEF’s unmistakable, impeccable sound signature.

These are the second largest floorstander in Kef's top of the line Reference series, released 1994 to 1999.
This pair presents very well; is in excellent condition, has the more expensive
Rosetta Burr finish - with only a couple of minor blemishes on the cabinets (see photos). Meticulously looked after since purchase - 3 years ago.
IMO they are neutral, detailed, have a fantastic midrange, and produce quite astounding and tone-full bass when called for. Front ported design and Uni Q tweeter combination, makes them quite forgiving in terms of room placement, and provides a large sweet spot.
      4 way, 5 driver Floorstanders
6.5" upper midrange with 1" Uni Q tweeter
      6.5" midrange
2 x 8" bass drivers. Design - each bass driver is enclosed within an inter-ported cavity, and fire away from the each other. A vibration cancelling rod is placed between the two drivers.
      Size: 1137 x 275 x 340mm
      Weight: 35kg each

Xindak FP-Gold Power Cable (following description from Xindak website)
The wire is made of multi-strand electrum wire and multi-strand brass wire without oxidization by intertwisting the two kinds of wire together by using a special technology, among which, the electrum wire is made by uniform mixing 5% 4N bullion and 95% 4N argentine together under fusion state and smelting by using the most advanced vacuum smelting technology. This kind of wire has a very high bearing capacity for current and a high speed of transmission, with best isolation between wires. A metal shielding mesh with a argentine coat is specially designed in the exterior of the wire, so as to prevent the bad influence to a great extent caused by the Hertzian waves from the outside, and improve the pureness when repaying music. The superior power plug selected is better to ensure good connection with the socket. The audition shows that the bearing capacity of current is very high in the wire, it has obvious progress in the acoustic fidelity and identifying capability, the music is clearer. The whole frequency reflects quickly, sound field is magnificent; especially the low frequency is deeper with better flexibility.
Xindak FA-Gold RCA Interconnect Cables (following description from Xindak website)
The basic materials of the wire are electrum semaphore foil, which is smelted by using the most advanced vacuum smelting technology at present. The wire adopts the multi-piece electrum foil and 5N monocrystal non-oxidation copper foil by using particular method of isolation and especially rarefied method of two-way spiral winding at the positive electrode and cathode separately, assisting with the wooden balls with function of damping and muffler, assisting with special shockproof stuff and a densely weaved shielding mesh made of non-oxidation copper with an argentine coat. Adorning soft PVE shaped tube outside the wire and luxury nylon jacket.
Because the foil-style wire of signal transmission can be used to improve the "skin effect" of the high frequency signals to a great extent during the process of conductor transmission, so as to reduce effectively characteristics impedance of the transmission wire. In addition, the special technology of spiral winding can further reduce capacitance between the foil wires, so as to reduce greatly the distortion of phase and range, make the music more clear and the transient better, moreover, the superconduct function of the electrum foil can create the following effects: more and clearer conduction of music signal, richer music gradation, richer overtone and thicker music taste.
The audition shows that it is very excellent in identifying ability for the middle and high frequency in the music; the timbre is exquisite and smooth just like feeling silk and satin. Especially, the character of the middle frequency is minuteness and thick, It in very good in power and elasticity of both middle and low frequency without any tight and stiff sense. Timbre is more noble, magnificent, graceful and elegant. The equilibrium sense is natural in the whole audition field.

Luminous Audio Synchestra Silver Speaker Cables
The SYNCHESTRA Speaker Cable utilizes high purity silver (99.997%) solid core 16 gauge composite conductor network sheathed in virgin Teflon. The Teflon conductors are then surrounded in PVC and bound by a premium nylon mesh jacket in order to preserve the integrity of the composite. The Go and Return legs are kept separate to reduce capacitance and magnetic interaction. Terminations are standard with silver clad copper spade lugs and SILTECH solder. For our September club meeting we’re very pleased to be able to present the new KEF LS50 Wireless speakers.
The KEF LS50 Wireless speakers are being kindly provided by the Lifestyle Store in North Parramatta.  (Refer to https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/.)   Alex Wilson from the Lifestyle Store will talk about the equipment.  At $3799 RRP the KEF LS50 Wireless speakers may seem expensive – but the truth is, they’re a bargain.  All you need is a source and a cable into the KEFs and they do everything else.  They handle digital and analogue inputs, have internal DACs, source control, volume control and amplification, and of course.. speaker drivers!  If they didn’t sound great, that would be all for nought – but they sound excellent too.  We’ll also have the new Oppo UDP-205 universal player on hand, also from Lifestyle.
We will also have their precursor, the KEF LS50 passive speakers, such that we can do a comparison.  Of course the passive speakers need separate amplification and cabling both of which can and will influence the sound.  So we can’t really compare apples to apples, but it’ll offer you the chance to hear which configuration you might like best.  Note that the emphasis on the day will definitely be on the active version.

The featured system on the day will be:
KEF LS50 Wireless Active Monitor speakers:  Taken from the Lifestyle website… “The KEF LS50 Wireless is a complete and fully active music system designed for how high resolution music is now enjoyed. It delivers exceptional sound quality, once only achievable by putting together a system of high quality separate components … LS50 Wireless delivers a clear, accurate and transparent sound that creates an intense, rich, and multi-dimensional soundstage experience. Made possible from its small enclosures through expert acoustic design and state-of-the-art technologies.”  Refer to https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/kef-ls50-wireless-active-monitor-speakers.html.
Also checkout Marc’s excellent and comprehensive review at http://www.stereo.net.au/reviews/review-kef-ls50-wireless.  Marc mentions some of the capabilities of the KEF LS50 Wireless this way … “You can connect the LS50 Wireless via your smartphone or tablet, either via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth (aptX) and stream Tidal, Spotify or your choice of local music. Or you can make the connection via USB or Toslink directly to your PC or laptop, or even your TV, taking advantage of the built-in 192/24 DAC.”

Oppo UDP-205 universal player:  Taken from the Lifestyle website “The UDP-205 provides reference level sound quality through the analogue outputs, improves the clock precision of the HDMI audio output, and increases the power of the built-in headphone amplifier. For the analogue output stages, the UDP-205 utilises two ES9038PRO DACs, which are the flagship of the ESS Sabre Pro series, delivering best-in-class audio performance.”.   $2199 RRP.   Refer to https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/oppo-udp-205-4k-blu-ray-player.html and http://www.livingsound.com.au/2017/04/oppo-udp-205-universal-player/

The other system on the day will be:
KEF LS50 Mini Monitor (passive) speakers:  Taken from the Lifestyle website “An innovative concept inspired by the legendary LS3/5a, LS50 mini monitor speaker is designed to bring professional studio monitor concept into the home. Rarely the case in such a compact design, the LS50 monitor delivers a rich, multi-dimensional ‘soundstage experience’ that is out of all proportion to its size. Patent-pending acoustic designs, together with state-of-the-art technologies from KEF’s latest flagship Blade loudspeaker, provide the ultimate studio experience – even in the smallest of spaces.”   On special now at $1999 RRP normally $2599 RRP

AudioGD Master 10 Integrated amp:  A fully balanced design with the gain stages and pre-driver stages working in class A, discrete analog stages without any OPA or coupling caps in the signal channels.   Refer to http://www.audio-gd.com/Master/Master10/Master-10EN.htm and http://6moons.com/audioreviews/magnepan2/4.html

The second half of the music sessions will be our popular BYO.   Members and guests are welcome to offer music to share with us all.  So bring along your favourite music on CD/SACD or USB flash drives (sorry, no vinyl).  All we ask is that the music and recordings be interesting.  We'll ask you to tell us a little about the artist/recording before it is played.  Tracks over 6 minutes will be faded out, to give everyone a fair go.
Whether you are a novice or a seasoned veteran, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn and share your experiences with others.  Feel free to come and hear the capabilities of the system, or to just share the experience with like-minded music lovers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Guests are welcome – we are a very friendly club so you don't need to know anyone to join us for an afternoon of fine music and sound.
