Beautiful craftsmanship and a bargain! I have a larger Holton kit built amp that cost about the same and absolutely love it.

This amp would be a match made in heaven driving KEF LS50's in a normal sized listening room.

I heard this last week sounding great. It's so quiet it give me a fright when the music started. The finish is very high quality. It's a bargain at this price. Apparently it paired very well with my wyred 4 sound stp se preamp that was in Anthony's workshop for a checkup.

I've heard the prototype of this mate. It would be a nice match for the sexy little KEFs.

This is highly evolved advanced power amplifier cutting edge stuff, with more than 25 years of power amplifier design put in by a pro amp builder that is normally involved in building mega monster amps for the Audiophiles of Europe. I personally wouldn't underestimate the hifi character of such a beautiful well presented piece from the Holton Foundry where this was struck

The amp is built of milled aluminium plate the thinnest is 3 mm for top and bottom covers, billet mass loaded feet

The center mezzanine the 7mm front and 5mm back acts like a mass damping heat sinking structure to eliminate physical noise from the transformer and keep operating temperature low

It has on board speaker protection and soft start that is processor controlled with solid state relays at the speaker outputs to protect those very expensive drivers and dividing networks

It has 80 000 uf of capacitors on board which is normally reserved for amps 3 times it's size

Australian Made Harbuch 225va Transformer which is engineered to run at 100% of its nominal rating  100% surge ability

It does run a pair of Martin Logan CLS's in an addictive way meaning if dinner is on the table and you want to finish the track, you will leave the dinner a min to finish the track, inviting and transfixing detail, soundstage and 3D image.

It sounds warm and timbred on the ML's like a very good 300B tube amp.

The circuit board quality is normally reserved for only the World's best, 2 ounce copper through plated with gold and has SMD and through hole components of exceptionally high grade and accuracy, the best one can get actually

It's designed for a lifetime of enjoyment and ultimate reliability on any speaker system, for me personally a keeper as I have built 2 and have 2 more to do, which will replace some monster amps on a highly efficient PSE144, 4 way stereo rig that has been under development for a year or so. The thing is, they are just, better, quieter on 107dB horns and desirable after a taste

The amp has the most minimal noise floor, no physical transformer hum and has been well vetted by it's maker and myself as a quality piece of loved hifi kit in a 300 x 200 x 100mm package.

THere is plenty more I can say about this Holton 050 Rev 1.5, 50w x 2, as in it can be upgraded easily to 100w x 2 and already has an add on update for the driver stage  the Maker has been playing about with

BARGAIN, cost me more to actually have the parts made/purchase, even the transformer is small batch custom and not available off the shelf

GLWS Anthony

Just to help out, there is almost literally no more room in the amp for "integration stage" or quality pre amplifier to suit the myriad of cartridge loadings,

its a power amp and the final stage from your other quality seperate compontery

Fair enough. I do get it that space maybe at a premium, but finding a synergy with a pre amp is time consuming and not always successful

Indeed. The thing is, I have zero interest in trying to borrow and audition a dozen suitable pre amps that may work well with it:)

Lovely looking bit of kit.

I had a yarn and a quiet beer last year with Anthony in the lounge/bar at Marc's show and he had his big amps on display and didn't want to take them back to Tassie and offered them at a  really keen price. And yes he was tired and worn out at the time. If I could of knocked a 0 off them I'd of grabbed them:love

But alas still way out of my league but I think Marc has them now in his system so perhaps they never went back over Bass Strait.

@Aussieamps  Anthony, what are it's dimensions and weight?

@Aussieamps

I have a spare integrated that I want to use as a pre amp. It has pre out facility so with your Zero Five Zero , would this be a straightforward input to your power amp?

This could make for a nice combination if so:)

Hi Rantan

The 050 amp can be configured for balanced and RCA inputs so it would match nicely with your existing Preamp outputs.:)

Cheers for that.

A couple of other things if I may. What is involved in the upgrade to the higher performance amp and what would be the approximate cost?

Thanks.

It a fairly straightforward up grade requires a larger power transformer and higher supply rails.

the higher power version is additional $300.00

A month or so ago I purchased a fully built Holton Five Zero Zero power amplifier, and I feel compelled to share my thoughts on it. For reference, it replaced another relatively high power, high current amplifier of similar value, albeit an integrated with a passive pre-amp stage.

First up, it looks stunning! The finishing quality is impeccable, and even my wife, who is normally a bit ho-hum with HiFi gear, commented on how much she liked the look. It's also got some serious weight to it, partly due to the solid case, thick machined fascia, and large heat sinks, but also no doubt thanks to the huge transformer and capacitor banks; no scrimping on the important stuff here!

I was very happy with my previous amplifier, but in all honesty I can say the Holton has taken the sound of my setup to another, altogether superior level. My previous amp was renowned for having good bottom end, but the impact of both drums and double/electric bass with the Holton is just phenomenal! Everyone who's heard it has remarked that it sounds like there's actually a drum kit in my lounge room! There's a track I'm infinitely familiar with where the bass guitarist slides between notes; with this amplifier I can not only hear the changing pitch, but actually pinpoint the moments when the bassists fingers slide over the frets. I can clearly discern whether they're playing with a pick or with fingers, and sometimes even how close to the bridge they're playing! Ultra low bass punches you in the face and then "blooms" outwards like an explosion from the impact zone; pretty spooky stuff!

Mid-range is also incredibly detailed and precise; there are subtle background "noises" which have suddenly turned into easily recognizable instruments. Guitars, woodwind, whispered vocals, suddenly revealed in crystal clarity despite being many layers back in the mix. Everyone who's heard the amp has also commented on how "black" the background is; one friend said "wow, now I can actually hear the notes that they're not playing". Instrument separation is superb, and you can easily follow each one in isolation, or simply tune into the music as a whole, and then again tune into another single melody or rhythm line, just like you would with a live performance. There's a naturalness to vocals that really needs to be heard to be believed, and a beautiful, expansive sense of air and space around each of the instruments; you can easily picture the size of the recording studio or venue. If you listen closely, the sound of a piano can be heard firstly as finger on keys, then keys hitting felt, then hammers hitting strings, then the body of the piano resonating with the strings, and then that resonance reverberating through the room. Imaging is pinpoint-sharp and clearly defined; when people speak of holographic imaging, this is it!! The image is higher, wider, and deeper than it was before, and the only limitation is my room and the placement of my speakers.

Treble is clear, defined, and ringing without being harsh or scratchy; tiny triangles, the sound of a cymbal struck on the bell or near the edge, the crack of a rimshot, all rendered in an utterly lifelike way.

On more than one occasion it's sent shivers down my spine or brought tears to my eyes.

And to top it all off Anthony was extremely personable, easy to speak to, and was happy to help out with all of my many queries; the sort of service you only get from someone who is passionate about what they do, and does it exceptionally well.

If you are looking for a power amplifier to build your dream 2-channel system, I cannot recommend this amp highly enough; in my opinion it'll absolutely blow the doors off amps worth many, many thousands of dollars more. Anthony, I have three words for you; thank you, thank you, thank you!

      Cheers,

      Steve H

Here is some preliminary photos of one of the latest dual mono block power amplifiers to be produced by Holton Audio.
The current assembly of these amplifiers is been carried out in Basel, Switzerland
This particular unit is one of 4 power amplifiers that will be delivered to a customer in Switzerland in the next couple of weeks.
The blue covering on the main toroidal power transformer is the protective plastic which will be removed once final assembly has been completed.
I will post more photos of the fully completed amplifier when they become available.

Item:  Cyrus X power (SILVER) power amplifier
      Location: Melbourne (Brunswick)
Price: $850 for cash - or will consider trade or swap for one of those nice Creek power amps (Destiny or Evo) or an Evo 5330se integrated.....
Item Condition: Mint, nothing to declare, looks new except for the box.
Reason for selling: This is the second one that I have owned, the first one sold after about 5 minutes and I felt I hadn't had enough time with it.  I love Cyrus and the amazing things they do in little boxes putting out plenty of power. A very revealing amp with bags of clarity and image, not to mention incredible dynamics. They pair superbly with darker sounding speakers like Sonus Faber Venere, Vienna Acoustics and Spendor, Dyn's of course.....Okay, so I discovered an old Creek and fell in love and that's the real reason...there we go.
Payment Method: Pickup or will post anywhere in Australia - Cash or Bank transfer
Extra Info: It's in perfect condition, came from a  good home (Makka on here). Comes with power cable, BFA plugs, MC bus cable, original box. (Box in good condition too, will double box for shipping). Had a very easy life in smoke free pet free home.

Shipping cost would be approx $30 for Aus post (add $10 for insurance) , $40 for TNT express.
