Guest Runaway

Rickie Lee Jones finally appeared at 8.10pm with her guitarist and percussionist/ drummer/ vibraphone player with the adoring crowd shouting long bits of praises.  She immediately launched into a song from her best selling self titled album which ended with a long solo from the guitarist and then from the vibraphone.  Rickie did not speak much (reminds me of the Boz Scaggs concert where he just go on with the music) but did spend a few minutes talking about her daughter, vegetarianism and her last trip to Melbourne.  She must be in her sixties but she had no difficulties with high notes as she serenaded the audience with favourites from the many records she made through the years.  She talked about writing "The Horses" for her daughter, how she received a call from her agent that an Australian asked to do that song and proceeded to welcome Daryl Braithwaite to the stage to sing it.  A standing ovation brought her back to do Chuck-E in Love which sounded as good as the record version before ending with a song written by her father in the 50s, "The Moon is made of Gold".

Stunning performance.
