AVG or a new anti virus product

Recommended Posts

Grumpy

My paid AVG protection has just expired and the new cost is $82, Wow!

So as a quick fix, I've just  downloaded the free McAfee program.

Should I stick with the AVG or is there a cheaper, as good, anti virus protection I should consider - What do you use?

Thanks for any guidance you may offer

I go with Avast free with Malwarebytes paid for version as a companion.

Avast is free

Malwarebytes licence for 3 PCs is around 30 bucks.

I use ZoneAlarm Internet Security, but we have a 20 year old in the house so need extra protection from wherever he goes :)

Go Kaspersky.

You can get 3 PC's worth for 2 years for $21

Even if you just use one PC then it is still great value.

At Officeworks too but a little more and 1 PC

Just use Windows security essentials and add free malwarebytes. No need to pay for anti virus these days.

Avira, AVG, Avast, Bitdefender, Panda. I use Avira at the moment and it's fairly unobtrusive, though it has recently started a small pop-up promoting latest 'Software Updater'.

Any of those with occassional use of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

I thought pretty much all of the free ones were similar in how they worked

The  Kaspersky looks interesting to me. Thanks for all the info fellas.

Noticed my computer seems to be working faster since I removed my AVG and the Mcafee seems unobtrusive at the moment .

Interesting how some folk think that they are infection free as the software has not alerted them. This is called a miss, and if it misses one you don't get notified :D

No single piece of software is 100% effective on virus and male-ware.

But if you ARE clean, that's cool.

Go with Avast. AVG is craptastic in the fact it can bog your computer down and cause other issues with Chrome or IE11 not working promptly or even opening. Old AVG was good in its day.

If you want the best paid antivirus and antimalware, Sophos Enterprise or Kaspersky are good along with Malwarebytes.

I use AVG, never had any problems.

Maybe it slows my computer down, but at the speed I type and the general stuff I use my computer for it doesn't matter.

Yes, Kaspersky is my preferred paid AV software. The price is right and they've always been one of the better AV solutions since the 90's. If I don't have a paid product then it's Ms Windows Defender. Free versions drive me nuts. I hate ads
