  1. I have a Teac C-2X Cassette Deck that I'd like to get going again. It seems it needs the motors replaced, new idlers, plus rubbers. Does anyone know where I might be able to source suitable parts?
  2. My California Labs CL-15 has stopped outputting sound, any recommended Repairists in the Adelaide area?
  3. Hi All, I have a dayton sub800 powered sub that has suddenly dropped sound out of the left side. I.e. little to no sound out of the left speaker when going through the sub from the amp. Im thinking its just a connection thing, because i got some sound back after trying to remake the connection.. Maybe the alligator clips or whatever the term is aren't holding down? Anyway i have no electrical/audio skills so it would probably need to go to a pro. Would it be worthwhile? You can get them for about $130 now new.. Would i spend more in repairs? Appreciate anyone's insight or advice Cheers
  4. When i got these i spoke to a bloke in brisbane who did service and offered eq upgrades, lost his contact info (and not sure if he still does this) If anyone has clues or intel on that person, or knows of any place i could get these looked at i'd be most grateful. Issues: Slight speakerbuzz on one side, i know i could just dab some speakerglue on there but it's not something i have experience with and i think since these are older than i am, it's worth getting them looked at by a pro. Got these second hand and they've never had a proper service or checkup - they're a really nice speaker apart from a few crackles at times (EQ pots maybe cracked solder somewhere?.. idk) and the buzz on one woofer means we're really not bothering to fire them up. I'd prefer to get the electronics looked at if possible also since the upgrades ol'mate suggested I am heading up to brisbane around the end of this month, so i can drop them anywhere between here (closest town is Glen Innes NSW) and Brisbane and collect on my next visit - happy to arrange return freight or come collect them myself when service is completed. cheers for any info :)
  5. Hi All I bought a CA Azur 540R off the market place which plays well but am planning to get it serviced as there is a low hum sound. Any suggestions on a good AV Service n Repair center in Melbourne? Is it worth Servicing?
  6. I've got myself a busted F12 for cheap, the sub itself is responsive and works fine, but the plate amp shows no power. I've changed fuses and tried it on the 110v and 240v options. I'm hoping someone much smarter than me knows a fix, or whether I can just frankenstein on another plate amp. Thanks in advance lads.
  7. So, my shiny second-hand Valhalla decided not to work anymore last week (more details) and it looks like it has to go to Schiit in California for repairs. Does anyone know someone locally in or around the Newcastle area that could take a look at the amp and give it a once-over to see what's wrong with it? Would prefer to give this a try first before paying $80AUD+ to have it airmailed to the US only to be told its completely dead. No problems with Schiit's support - that's been great so far especially as its a second-hand amp - its just that paying to have it sent overseas might be an expense with no return for me. Hopefully someone around here might be familiar with similar amplifiers and be able to have a look at it. Thanks ! PS: please let me know if I've posted this in the wrong forum section or if there's a better place it can go.
  8. Hi everyone, My better half asked me last week "Hey what's that sound?". It was a high pitched whining sound that I attributed to the cooling fans in the TV. Now, since it's her TV, she's had it for years, and the fact that she raised the question, made me doubt my theory, and gave me a mystery to investigate. I shut the TV down, and the sound kept going, and worked my way through one device after another until it finally stopped. Unfortunately, it was my 15" Paradigm Studio sub. I purchased it in June as one of the last ones available. "Well at least it's under warranty!". The whine, while intermittent, became a problem because it cut through the air in a noticable fashion, so I took it back to the shop. This is where the bigger subs offer issues of their own..... In this process, I have learned a few things to consider before you buy a huge sub (although I hope I don't scare you off): 1. Taking a bigger sub back is not a trivial undertaking, a 51Kg sub can be done by a reasonably strong person (that's how I got it there in the first place).... but having two people is a major benefit when putting the sub back into the box, and lifiting it into a vehicle. 2. Keep your subwoofer box. (The Paradigm sub is an unusual shape, since it tapers at the back, and packing peanuts won't handle the weight. Otherwise you're often waiting for the new unit to come so you can ship the old one). However, keeping the box takes up quite a bit of space..... 3. If you have a station wagon, 4WD, a hatchback, or a ute, then you don't have to worry about your ability to transport any large item. However, I discovered that there was no way on Earth that I could get the 15" sub, in the box, to even enter the doors on my car, and I don't have a boot nearly big enough in my sedan. Cue my shameless use of my partner's hatchback. 4. If you aren't careful, it's extremely easy to hurt your back when moving such bulky and heavy items. Lets just say that I'd probably be immobile right now if I didn't have help! 5. Always make a copy of your receipt. I almost lost my original due to it fading on the thermal paper, so copy it as soon as you get one. Also, having copies to give for warranty purposes means you can protect your originals. 6. I haven't received my sub back yet, but after talking to some friends, one suggested that when you get the sub back, test it in the shop. If the problem still persists, it saves a whole bunch of trouble getting it home, then repeating the return process. A quick note of appreciation... I have a rare partner indeed, you see, I have 3 subs, and she not only helps with moving and calibrating them, but complains when there just isn't enough bass, or if one doesn't work very well. I don't know what everyone else's partner is like, but I can easily imagine many of you are left to your audiophile tendencies. In which case, I hope you have some local audio-inclined friends/family/servant/other to help with the load. By raising these considerations, hopefully you can overcome some of these obstacles, or get help from others, and avoid issues down the track. Otherwise, getting two (or more) smaller ones may be a better way to go. All the best! Hamish.
  9. I have a Technics EPA100 Tone arm - all good condition except the anti-skate needs a major fix. The adjustment knob is missing - so the mechanism is dissengaged - anyone suggest someone who could fix this? Probably need custom parts. Cheers
  10. Can anyone recommend someone who can repair my SME 3009 tonearm which has developed a bit of a hum. I live in Hawthorn so someone relatively close-by would be great. Thanks for your help!
  11. I've visited a couple of members here in Perth and noticed that they have great setups for working. I have four benches for various work, woodwork and welding benches are the tidiest. I am a bit ashamed of my Electronics bench so here are pics. Hopefully others will join in and post about their workroom or bench area. As you can see not a lot of space. Time to get a few projects finished, now that "Fast, Cheap and Loud" is done I might have to move onto some TT'sDriver and general parts shelves and Ikea draws for componentsNext is the TT shelf, these are the immediately do-able the rest are in the container. Whenever my Daughters come to visit they want to tidy up and offer their advice.
  12. Just a note that I'd been looking for a technician for turntables who was really local to me (Bayside/City-based) and have found one in Fitzroy. Earl is a 30 year veteran, who was employed with Pioneer previously, and so was ideal to look at my PL50-L last week. He does *off-site* work for Vinyl Revival in Brunswick Street - the minimum through the shop is $90 to assess any table, and more with parts and labour of course, depending what you want done. Did a great job on my old girl and she is singing again. FYI only. (I don't know Earl - have never met him, and have no affiliations here) Jon
  13. Hi, I have a beautiful Braun SK55 that I picked up at a garage sale several years ago. The tonearm is damaged and someone has made a poor attempt at rewiring. Does anyone know where I could source a new tonearm or recommend someone to chat to about getting it fixed in the Melbourne area. Cheers...
